Lions' Dan Campbell announces injury updates on Taylor Decker, Josh Paschal
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell offered a few injury updates on Sunday ahead of the first practice of training camp. Offensive tackle Taylor Decker and defensive end Josh Paschal were among them. The biggest injury update of the day was for defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike, who Campbell revealed has been ruled out for the 2025 campaign due to an ACL injury, the specifics of which we don't have yet. "Levi's out for the year," Campbell announced. "Levi's surgery, it was significant but it needed to be done. Out of his control and it needed to be done. So he will miss the season." For a Lions team that was ravaged by serious injuries in 2024, this is an ominous start. Onwuzurike was slated to play a top reserve role once again in 2025, but because of the ACL injury to Alim McNeill, who may not be ready for Week 1, Onwuzurike could've began the year as the starter. Now, a look at the injury updates for Paschal and Decker. Taylor Decker injury update Decker was unexpectedly placed on the active/physically unable to perform list to begin training camp due to an undisclosed injury. Campbell did not go into specifics on Decker's injury but did note that the veteran had a clean-up procedure and should be back after the Hall of Fame Game, The Athletic's Colton Pouncy reported. Josh Paschal injury update As for Paschal, he's currently on the non-football injury list with an undisclosed issue. Again, Campbell didn't go into specifics but did say the former second-rounder will take "just a tick longer" to get back and gave a timeline of "probably early September," according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. Dan Campbell admits his biggest concern for Lions going into training camp
The Detroit Lions are seeing significant turnover in their offensive line going into the 2025 season. The team lost center Frank Ragnow to retirement and guard Kevin Zeitler to free agency, where he inked a deal with the Tennessee Titans. As if all that wasn't enough, there are concerns with guard Graham Glasgow after a disappointing 2024 campaign that led many to wonder if he's on the decline. Glasgow is one of at least two offensive linemen who were competing for the vacant center job this offseason, along with rookie Tate Ratledge. That competition will no doubt continue in training camp and the loser will likely take one of the guard spots. The favorite for the other guard spot is second-year offensive lineman Christian Mahogany, who showed promise last season but remains mostly unproven. Going into training camp, head coach Dan Campbell revealed that the offensive line is his biggest concern. "My eyes are on the O-line," Campbell told reporters on Sunday. "I want to see what that unit's going to do and what's going to come out of that. We need some guys to step up for us. It's a great opportunity. "We lost Frank and Zeitler's gone and so we've got two or three more spots for guys to step up and help us. And, once that happens, then mesh," he added. "The guys that we know we can trust, this is where they're going to play and then getting whoever those five are together to where they start working together and start trusting each other." Campbell added that the battle for interior offensive line spots is "an open competition," per Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News. Given all that's required of a center, Glasgow's experience gives him the edge over the rookie for that particular spot. The veteran has played 2,611 snaps at center during his career, according to Pro Football Focus, while Ratledge did not play the position at Georgia. Other players to keep an eye on for the interior offensive line spots are veterans Trystan Colon and Kayode Awosika, and rookie Miles Frazier. MORE:Lions DT Levi Onwuzurike to miss 2025 season

Lions DL Levi Onwuzurike out for season with ACL surgery, setback for team with ailing Alim McNeill
Associated Press ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Detroit Lions defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike is out for the season after having knee surgery, a setback for a franchise that was counting on him to fill in for Alim McNeill. Lions coach Dan Campbell made the announcement on Sunday morning, just before his team had the NFL's first training camp practice of the year. The 27-year-old Onwuzurike started in a career-high 11 games last season, including Detroit's loss to Washington in the divisional round. His playing time increased when McNeill had a season-ending knee injury in December. McNeill, who signed a $97 million, four-year contract extension last October, is out indefinitely. Onwuzurike's injury gives rookie defensive tackle Tyleik Williams a chance to play a significant role when the two-time defending NFC North champions kick off the season Sept. 7 at Green Bay. Detroit drafted the former Ohio State standout with the 28th pick overall in the NFL draft. The 6-foot-3, 334-pound Williams started 13 games for the national champion Buckeyes and had 46 tackles, including eight for losses and 2 1/2 sacks. The Lions will also lean on 31-year-old defensive tackle DJ Reader and newly acquired veteran Roy Lopez, who started 16 games last season for Arizona and has 50 career starts with the Cardinals and Houston Texans. ___ AP NFL: recommended Item 1 of 3
