Beloved TV franchise prequel finally lands on Netflix and fans can't get enough
Fans of the Yellowstone universe are in for a treat as the hit prequel series 1923 is now available to stream on Netflix in the UK. Widely praised by viewers and critics alike with some calling it one of the greatest shows ever made, 1923 officially dropped on the streaming platform today (July 9) bringing a new chapter of the Dutton family saga to a wider audience.
The Western series stars Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford as Cara and Jacob Dutton, the matriarch and patriarch of the Dutton family. The story picks up after the untimely deaths of Margaret and James Dutton, key characters who were central to the events of the earlier prequel series 1883.
The Yellowstone franchise centres around the Dutton family, owners of the largest contiguous ranch in the United States, the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, and their struggles to protect it from various threats.
The series created and written by Taylor Sheridan is set against the backdrop of early 20th century America and explores a period of change marked by prohibition, the great depression and the rise of industrialisation.
1923 offers a gritty and emotional look at the Duttons' ongoing struggle to protect their land and legacy, themes that have led the Yellowstone franchise to become so popular.
Now, Netflix have dropped the first season of 1923 on their platform, where viewers can already watch the first four seasons of the main show Yellowstone as well as all ten episodes of 1883.
Yellowstone shows the Dutton family living in the modern world while the two prequel series - 1883 and 1923 - tells the harrowing origin story of the family's journey westward, and settling into the ranch.
Season one of 1923 has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 88% and season two, which is yet to arrive on Netflix, has a perfect score of 100%.
One review on Rotten Tomatoes, writes: "This was one of the best written shows I have seen in a very long time. Anyone who really loved Yellowstone needs to watch 1923. The chemistry between every single character is just unopposed to any other set of characters in the series."
While another fan praised the actors, stating: "This is one of the best series I have ever watched. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are terrific together and the rest of the cast is very well chosen. The script is so engaging I have added to a watch list everything created by Taylor Sheridan's."

Wednesday season 2 has now been released on Netflix and the new episodes were not shot in Romania. Wednesday, one of Netflix 's most successful shows to date, has made a triumphant return today with the first part of its second season. The show's stunning visuals and breathtaking sets have already sparked curiosity among fans about where the second season was filmed - a location completely different from the first season. The inaugural season of the supernatural series, starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, was fittingly shot in Romania, famously known as Dracula's homeland. However, due to various reported 'logistical challenges' during filming, Wednesday has since relocated. Tim Burton's gothic series, featuring stars such as Catherine Zeta-Jones and Fred Armisen, has returned for a second season in a drastically different setting, reports the Express. Where was Wednesday season 2 filmed? For the second season of the Netflix series, showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar reportedly chose Ireland, an obvious choice given its gothic castles and dark forests. But away from her preppy knits and expansive winter jacket wardrobe, the actress shone in one other department that had nothing to do with her wardrobe: her hair. We spent the whole 1h53 minutes desperately Googling to find out exactly what was used on Sofia's hair on the set to give her that mirror-like shine, and we finally have the intel. Hair pro Rebekah Forecast, who did the make-up for My Oxford Year, quietly dropped a full list of everything she used on Sofia's hair, and we've pinpointed Jones Road's Everywhere Balm Hippie Stick, £36, as the product behind her shiny tresses.
