NEW DELHI: Indian compound archers failed to secure positions in medal rounds during the Archery World Cup Stage 3 individual category competitions on Friday.
Following their impressive performance in Shanghai, where India claimed second position behind South Korea with two gold, one silver and four bronze medals, they are still awaiting their first medal here.
In the women's individual section, fourth-seeded Madhura Dhamangaonkar, who won the previous World Cup, suffered defeat against Mexico's fifth-seeded Mariana Bernal with a score of 152-159.
Mariana maintained steady performance throughout, while Madhura could not maintain momentum after scoring 29 from a possible 33 in the opening round.
World champion Aditi Swami also faced elimination in the quarter-finals, losing 147-152 to Mexican second seed Andrea Becerra.
In men's competition, thirteenth-seeded Rishabh Yadav was defeated by French archer Nicolas Girard, seeded 28th, with a score of 149-157 in the quarter-finals.
Prior to this, Yadav had defeated senior compatriot
Abhishek Verma
157-154 in the pre-quarter-finals.
World champion Ojas Deotale experienced an unexpected first-round elimination, losing 157-161 to American James Lutz.
The Indian compound archers showed difficulty adapting to the new scoring system introduced at this stage.
From the Antalya leg, the 'X' ring, being the innermost circle, now values 11 points, increasing the perfect score per round (three arrows) from 30 to 33.
On Thursday, India had already been eliminated from team events in both recurve and compound divisions.
They now aim to improve their campaign through the mixed team event scheduled later today.
Additional expectations rest on the recurve individual events.

Virendar Sehwag recalls how he thought of retiring from ODIs during series against Australia in 2007/08: ‘MS Dhoni dropped me from the side…'

Virendar Sehwag was way ahead of his time. Back in the day, he used to play at a strike rate and consistency that is equivalent to modern standards. However, the flip side of the approach is that players do go through a poor run of form in certain phases of their career due to their attacking intent. And Sehwag, during the 2007/08 tour to Australia, from five games, managed to score 81 runs, and then skipper MS Dhoni decided to drop Sehwag from the side. 'In the 2007-08 series against Australia, I played the first three matches and then MS Dhoni dropped me from the side. I wasn't picked for a while after that. Then I felt that if I can't be a part of the playing XI, then there was no point in my playing ODI cricket,' said Sehwag, speaking to Padamjeet Sehrawat. 'Then I went to Tendulkar and said, 'I am thinking of retiring from ODIs'. He said, 'No, I went through a similar phase in 1999-2000, where I felt I should leave cricket. But that phase came and went. So, you are going through a trough, but it will pass. Don't make any decision when you are emotional. Give yourself some time and 1-2 series, and then take a call.' When that series ended, I played in the next series and made a lot of runs. I played the 2011 World Cup and we won the World Cup as well,' Sehwag added. In a glorious international career spanning over 12 years, Sehwag played 104 Tests scoring 8586 runs at an impressive average of 49.34, hitting 23 centuries and 32 half-centuries. He is the only triple centurion in Tests for India having scored career-best knock of 319 against Pakistan at Multan, which also is an Indian record. He is also one of those rare batsmen to have scored two triple ton with his next one (309) coming against South Africa. In 251 ODIs, he accumulated 8273 runs at an average of 35.05 and scored 15 hundreds apart from hitting 38 fifties. In 19 Twenty20 Internationals, he managed 394 runs with two half-centuries.

33,17,82,137 Cr Dispute: Cricket Board Terminates Kings Franchise, Heres Why

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has suspended the Chittagong Kings franchise of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after terminating its agreement with the former owners, SQ Sports Enterprise Ltd., due to persistent financial violations. The BCB revealed that the franchise owes over 46 crore taka, which includes unpaid dues from the 2012 and 2013 BPL seasons, outstanding payments from the 2025 season, and accumulated interest spanning 12 years. 46 Crore Taka in Indian Rupees = 33,17,82,137.60 Indian Rupee SQ Sports consistently failed to fulfill its financial and contractual responsibilities, including franchise fees, taxes, and player and staff salaries. Despite numerous reminders and legal actions since 2013, payments were not made. A settlement agreement signed in September 2024 also went unfulfilled, leading the board to cancel the deal on July 22, 2025, and pursue further legal measures. During the 2025 BPL season, the Kings failed to pay head coach Shaun Tait's full salary, as well as the wages of players and support personnel. Even former brand ambassador Shahid Afridi was not paid the entire amount owed, which SQ Sports' Samir Quader Chowdhury described as a private issue. The franchise also faced payment disputes with host Yasha Sagar, resulting in legal notices and counter-statements during the tournament. 2025 Season Despite off-field troubles, the Chittagong Kings had a successful 2025 BPL season, finishing second in the league stage with eight wins and four losses, earning 16 points and a strong net run rate of +1.395. A highlight came on January 16, when Graham Clark's explosive 101 off 50 balls led to a 45-run victory over the Khulna Tigers. After an early defeat in the league, the Kings hit their stride and carried momentum into the playoffs. They lost Qualifier 1 to Fortune Barishal by nine wickets but bounced back thrillingly in Qualifier 2, with Al Islam's last-ball four clinching a nail-biting 164-run chase against Khulna's 163. The Kings reached the final and posted an imposing 194/3, but Barishal chased down the target with three wickets remaining, denying Chittagong their first title. Chittagong Kings have seen various international cricketers like Moen Ali, Chris Gayle, Angelo Matthews etc dawning their jersey.

Ben Doak transfer: Bournemouth nears £25m deal with Liverpool; all you need to know

AFC Bournemouth are on the cusp of securing a £25 million deal for Liverpool's 19-year-old forward Ben Doak, marking a significant transfer in the Premier League's 2025/26 season buildup. Ben Doak, a Scotland international, was once a rising star under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. However, injuries and Mohamed Salah's brilliant form limited his first-team opportunities. A thigh injury requiring surgery disrupted his loan spell at Middlesbrough in the Championship last season, where he didn't feature after January. With new manager Arne Slot investing heavily in Liverpool's squad, Doak's path to regular minutes at Anfield became uncertain, paving the way for his potential move to Bournemouth. The £25m transfer fee represents a massive return for Liverpool, who signed Ben Doak for just £600,000 three years ago. The deal highlights their knack for developing young talent, even if Doak's immediate future lies elsewhere. For Bournemouth, securing a player linked with clubs like Porto and other Premier League sides is a statement of intent. Bournemouth are reshaping their squad under manager Andoni Iraola. The roster rebuild includes a blend of youth and experience. The Doak deal comes alongside the £34.5 million signing of French centre-back Bafode Diakite from Lille, strengthening their defensive options. In the attacking lineup, Bournemouth are managing transitions, with Dango Ouattara nearing a £42.5 million move to Brentford and Luis Sinisterra expected to join Cruzeiro on loan. Doak's arrival signals Iraola's focus on dynamic, young attackers to drive Bournemouth's push up the Premier League table. Interestingly, Bournemouth and Liverpool face off in the Premier League's opening match on Friday evening, adding intrigue. Doak, an unused substitute in Liverpool's recent Community Shield game at Wembley, could soon be lining up against his former club. This move reflects Bournemouth's proactive approach in the transfer market as they aim to compete with established Premier League sides. For Ben Doak, the move to Bournemouth will offer an opportunity to display his pace and potential. Regular game time under Iraola could help him fulfill the promise that once made him a standout at Liverpool. Chelsea are in talks with Bayern Munich over Christopher Nkunku, who may leave on loan, while pursuing Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons. Chelsea's Enzo Maresca also faces defensive concerns following Levi Colwill's knee injury, with the manager stating, 'You know how important Levi has been for us last season... Levi was a huge part of our buildup, and now he's out.'
