New Silverhill Elementary School opens, old school to be transformed
SILVERHILL, Ala. (WKRG) — There is a different feel to learning these days at Silverhill Elementary School.
'They are just so happy to be here, and they tell us all the time,' principal Wendy Rodgers said.

Four hundred eighty students almost seem lost inside the 137,000 square foot facility with all the bells and whistles.
'The technology, the size of the gym, the STEM classrooms, the seating in the cafeteria, this is all things that we never had before,' Rodgers said.
Classes started this week after a rare midyear move.

'I wasn't going to have a $30 million school empty for five or six months, so we gambled on a midyear move, and it worked out,' Baldwin County Public Schools Superintendent Eddie Tyler said.
The new school is a far cry from the old one built in 1956 with all the problems of a nearly 70-year-old building, which will also be transformed, according to Tyler.
'It's going to be the only one of its kind that we know of, an early learning center Pre-K, and it's going to be beautiful,' Tyler said.

The beauty of the new school is not lost on those who live here, but it is what is happening for students inside the building that is even better.
'They are totally locked in on instruction,' Rodgers said. 'It is just great!'

The Aaron Rodgers contract is a major bargain for the Steelers
Aaron Rodgers said in April that he would play in 2025 for $10 million. He'll get more than that — at least $3.65 million more and up to $9.5 million more. Even though he's getting more than he said he'd take, it's still a massive bargain for the Steelers. It's unclear how much more he could have gotten. His agent, David Dunn, wanted him to want more than that. In fact, we're told that Rodgers would've played for even less than the deal he signed, but that Dunn pushed him to take more. It's still not known how Rodgers can pump up his pay from $13.65 million to $19.5 million. There's talk that one factor to unlock the maximum package is winning the Super Bowl. The full amount, if he earns it, will still be less than what Justin Fields will make this year ($20 million). Which for a player of Rodgers's capabilities gives the Steelers a huge advantage. It also saves millions in cash and cap dollars for other players. Whether it means they'll use the money to pay linebacker T.J. Watt or sign an available skill-position player (like running back J.K. Dobbins) or trade for a receiver (like Allen Lazard) or be ready to make a deal prior to the Week 9 deadline remains to be seen. Regardless, they've gotten a quarterback for a lot less cash and cap space than it should have cost them. If they're fully committed to re-investing the savings in making the 2025 Steelers as good as they can be, they could be better than expected.

'As the years passed, each of us began our own businesses in the town of Strasburg, and our connection to and appreciation for the community continued to grow,' the new owners shared on Facebook. 'Thus, when we heard the creamery was for sale, we started dreaming and praying about purchasing this local landmark and reviving it as a hub for our community.' For those who don't know, the Strasburg Creamery building is also home to a general store, and the Strasburg Village Inn. According to the new owners, during the winter 2026 they will renovate the general store, which will be followed by the grand re-opening of the Strasburg Creamery and the Village Inn by the summer of 2026. It is important to note that although the creamery will have a re-opening next summer following renovations, the owners will still be serving its high-quality ice cream when their doors open next month in July.
