Huge Brit pop star, 40, who won The X Factor to release first album in 11 years

The Sun30-07-2025
FOLLOWING her win on The X Factor and the release of her chart-topping single Bleeding Love, Leona Lewis put out five albums between 2007 to 2015.
But after an extended break from the studio, I'm chuffed to reveal that the British star is working on new music again and will release her first album in 11 years in 2026 — exactly two decades after triumphing on the ITV show.
This time she is doing it ALL herself — divulging that she is writing and producing as well as playing the instruments.
No wonder it's taken so long.
Speaking at an intimate Q&A at 180 House in London, Leona said: 'I've been in the studio since last year now.
'I'm pretty deep in the process and I'm producing everything, writing everything, so it's very new territory for me.
'But there definitely will be something next year.
'It means that it's very unfiltered. It's very raw.
"With the birth of my daughter, I did not know the depth of love until she was born.
"And I'm writing a lot about that.
'When I first started out, I was quite overwhelmed.
"And there were definitely times in the studio where I was questioning, 'Am I crazy? Why am I doing this?'
I was an X Factor winner - now I've got a normal job running a coffee shop with an 'important mission'
'I taught myself to play the bass. I'm playing bass on stuff.
"I taught myself to play the drums. I'm playing drums on stuff.
"And it's so fulfilling as well.
'Just to hear a song that is literally all you, it feels really good. It feels so genuine and real.'
The news comes ahead of her debut Las Vegas residency at the exclusive venue Voltaire, which will run from November to early January.
She said of the Christmas-themed spectacle, called A Starry Night: 'I think we've created a really special show for people, so yeah, I'm excited to get up there on stage.'
And it comes hot on the heels of the OBE she received for services to music earlier this month.
On collecting the gong, she said: 'I don't really get nervous, so my dad was like, 'What's wrong with you?'
"And I went completely silent. But it was just such a big deal
'My dad, every time he sees me now, has started to curtsy, which is really weird.'
I'd absolutely be demanding the royal treatment after that.

THE brilliant Katherine Ryan is mixing sex and comedy for brand new podcast Write Me Dirty.
Each week, the comic will be joined by two guests who have to write the most steamy – and side-splitting – erotic fiction based on Kath's ridiculous prompts, such as, 'Apocalypse, must include a zombie and a can of beans'.
The first episode, featuring Radio 1 DJs Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo, is out today.
Kath joked: 'When they asked me if I wanted to host a show about sex, erotica and fiction I didn't have to think twice – I said absolutely not.
"But when I realised I'd have a front row seat as comedians squirmed through the awkwardness of reading aloud the erotic fiction they'd written about each other for a prize, I reconsidered.'
LIAM AND PAM ARE REAL DEAL
PAMELA ANDERSON and Liam Neeson really have struck up a romance, according to US sources.
Showbiz magazine People has claimed that The Naked Gun co-stars, are in the early stages of a relationship and are both 'smitten'.

They have raised some eyebrows while promoting the film, with Pammy giving him a kiss at the London premiere last week.
Speaking about the Baywatch star, Liam said: 'With Pamela, first off, I'm madly in love with her.
'She's terrific to work with. I can't compliment her enough. No huge ego.
"She just comes in to do the work.
"She's funny and so easy to work with.'
Meanwhile, Pammie says they bonded over a passion for 'literature and a good laugh,' adding: 'We definitely have a connection that is very sincere, very loving.
"He's a good guy.'

IF you're visiting Edinburgh over the next month, my pal Lily Edwards is taking on her wackiest role yet.
The Fringe veteran is at the heart of a one-woman show, Of Fire And Flame, written by Emma Zetterberg.
The show, described as a 'fantasy-romance parody,' doubles as a poignant reflection on the realities of living with endometriosis.
You can catch it from August 1-24 (not 12) at 12.20pm at the Gilded Balloon Patter House.
KIDS KEEP UP WITH JONESES
THEY may have multi-millionaire parents, but that doesn't mean the kids of Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas haven't had the odd trip to Butlin's in their time.
The couple raised their kids Dylan and Carys between New York and Bermuda, but the actress has said that she insisted they spend a fortnight in her native Wales every year, so they'd get a taste of normal life.
She told the Radio Times: 'I'm adamant that they go back to Wales every year, to be with their grandparents for two weeks.
'Nana and Grampy's rules!
'They've been to Butlin's, Legoland, seen the sights in London, up to Scotland, over to Ireland.
"They've even been to the Isle of Man, I think.
'As a parent, you guide them, you give them the best, broadest options, you don't smother them – you put them into situations where you hope they see the reality of the world.'
FEARNE'S OFF TO FLYER WITH ELLIOT
THERE might be a couple of late bombshells jetting into the Love Island villa in Mallorca – but I'm not sure their heads will be turned.
A Bizarre reader spotted Fearne Cotton and her new man, TV director Elliot Hegarty, snogging at Palma Airport.
5
The pair, who I revealed had started dating in February, jetted in from Heathrow for a romantic getaway this week.
Our reader explained: 'Fearne and Elliot were like teenagers in love.
They were kissing and cuddling while waiting for their bags.
'It was lovely to see her so happy. Elliot totally doted on her.
"She's found a lovely man.'

DON'T SLIDE AWAY, DJ JO TELLS OASIS
JO WHILEY knows Oasis better than most, having interviewed Noel and Liam Gallagher on countless occasions over the years.
And she is hopeful that we will get some new music from the brothers.
5
She reckons it would be 'insane' for the duo not to get back inside the recording studio given the massive success of their comeback tour.
Speaking on her Dig It podcast, the Radio 2 DJ, said: 'You've had bands like Blur coming back and doing The Ballad Of Darren two years ago now, which has just got some of their best-ever songs on.
'There are so many artists . . . Suede have got a new album out and how fantastic is the new Pulp album?
'So with hope in my heart, I would really love Oasis to have another album, a new album, because of all the songs that they wrote way back in the day.
She explained: 'They've continued to write new songs.
'Noel's High Flying Birds – there was some really brilliant music that he did.
Jo added: 'So how could you stop being that songwriter and not want to release new music as Oasis with your brother?
'That would seem insane to me. So hopefully it will happen.'
I'll keep my fingers crossed, too.

ITV COMMISSIONS FOUR-PART TRUE CRIME DRAMA, BELIEVE ME, WRITTEN BY ACCLAIMED SCREENWRITER JEFF POPE MBE AND PRODUCED BY ETTA PICTURES

AIMéE-FFION EDWARDS, MIRIAM PETCHE, AASIYA SHAH AND DANIEL MAYS PLAY THE LEADING ROLES IN THE DRAMA Images of the actors are available here: Photo credit for Aimée-Ffion Edwards – Phil Sharp Photo credit for Miriam Petche – Craig Gibson Photo credit for Aasiya Shah – Phil Sharp Photo credit for Daniel Mays – Will Thompson ITV's Director of Drama Polly Hill has commissioned a four-part true crime drama, Believe Me, written by BAFTA and RTS award winning screenwriter Jeff Pope MBE, and produced by his production company, Etta Pictures, part of ITV Studios. Believe Me tells the story of three victims of one of the most prolific sex attackers in British history, John Worboys, dubbed by the media as the 'black cab rapist' after preying on women under the cover of being a 'respectable' licensed taxi-cab driver. Aimée-Ffion Edwards (Slow Horses, Peaky Blinders, Dreamland, Mr Burton) Miriam Petche (Industry) and Aasiya Shah (Raised by Wolves, Bloods, The Beast Must Die) play the women Worboys sexually assaulted. Daniel Mays takes the role of John Worboys (Des, A Thousand Blows, The Long Shadow, Moonflower Murders). The drama will be filmed in Cardiff and is produced with the support of the Welsh Government via Creative Wales. John Worboys was convicted in 2009 for sexually assaulting twelve women between 2006 and 2008, with their cases selected from a large number of suspected further victims. His modus operandi was to claim that he'd had a win at a casino or on the lottery, then persistently offer women he'd picked up in his cab after a night out a glass of champagne, which he'd laced with drugs, and which rendered his victims unconscious. The drama focuses on the ordeal of two of the women who reported sexual assaults by Worboys, and how the Metropolitan Police failed to thoroughly investigate these women's allegations, leading them to feel that they were just not believed. Believe Me will relate how this left Worboys free to commit assaults undetected for many years. Following his trial came the realisation that he was linked to allegations of further sexual offences against over a hundred women. The two women then joined forces with solicitor Harriet Wistrich and Phillippa Kaufmann QC, and decided to sue the Metropolitan Police under the Human Rights Act for their failure to properly conduct investigations into their allegations of sexual assault, leading to them being subjected to degrading treatment and contributing to their distress. The drama highlights how these women fought against all odds to have their cases heard, whilst looming in the background was Worboys' first parole hearing. Unbelievably, eight years after he was convicted for his crimes, his victims were made to fight again to keep him behind bars. Academy Award nominated and BAFTA and RTS award winning screenwriter Jeff Pope is no stranger to true crime drama having recently written Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes and previously being known for The Walk In, Hatton Garden, A Confession, Little Boy Blue, Mrs Biggs and Lucan and was also Executive Producer for The Reckoning and Appropriate Adult (both written by Neil McKay). Jeff's work also includes the feature films Stan & Ollie, Philomena and Pierrepoint and critically acclaimed television biopics Cilla and Archie. Jeff will executive produce the drama alongside Saurabh Kakkar on behalf of Etta Pictures. Julia Ford (Until I Kill You, Showtrial, Unforgiveable) will direct the series. Catrin Lewis Defis (The Winter King, Hollington Drive, The Pact) will produce the series. Commented Jeff Pope: 'The series goes on an emotional journey with the victims of Worboys' attacks, showing what happened to them when they reported being raped and assaulted, the pain and indignity of the process and how this de-humanised them. But most shocking of all is how they felt that not being believed by the police and having the attacks recorded, essentially, as non-crimes, was as traumatising for them as the actual assaults.' Polly Hill will oversee production of the drama from the broadcaster's perspective. Commented Polly Hill: 'We are really proud to be working with Jeff Pope to bring this important story to screen. For too long the women were not heard by the police, resulting in more victims and ultimately resulting in a landmark case brought against the Met. Jeff's scripts as always are brilliant in bringing this difficult but important story to screen and I am delighted that Julia Ford will be directing the piece.' The drama will air on ITV1 and STV and be available for streaming on ITVX and STV Player.

First edition of The Hobbit discovered in UK home sells for £43,000

A 'rare' first edition of JRR Tolkien book The Hobbit discovered during a house clearance in Bristol has sold at auction for £43,000. It is one of only 1,500 copies printed in September 1937, according to auction house Auctioneum, and was sold to a UK-based private collector at an auction held in Bath. Caitlin Riley, book specialist at Auctioneum, said: 'It's the quintessential auction story. Everyone dreams of finding a rare item hidden in plain sight, and here we are. 'House clearances can be tricky, stressful and troublesome – if ever there is a good advert for our service, it's this! This could have so easily been sent to landfill or disposed of by someone who didn't realise it was there. It really is a lucky survivor! 'The result just goes to show the pure love for Tolkien's work. Written nearly 90 years ago, it's amazing how relevant and popular it still is. ' People still want the escape; they want to delve into a fantastical world and discover new characters. Some people are clearly willing to pay large sums for the privilege. 'Much like the tale within the covers – selling this has been a real adventure. 'We've had hundreds of inquiries from all around the world and whilst we were expecting a certain amount of interest, we weren't quite expecting this much! It's a wonderful result, for a very special book.' Including buyer's premium, which is an additional charge that the winning bidder must pay on top of the hammer price, the book totalled £52,000. It was discovered in the family library of Hubert Priestley, a famous botanist in the 1930s and brother to Antarctic explorer and geologist Sir Raymond Edward Priestley. The auction house said Priestley and Tolkien both shared mutual correspondence with author CS Lewis, as well as strong connections to the University of Oxford, meaning it is likely both men knew each other. Ms Riley said: 'To think that just a few weeks ago this book was sat undiscovered on a bookshelf in a Bristol house, and has gone on to make headlines around the world, is quite incredible. 'It's the connection to Tolkien and the important provenance that makes this book so special. It's not just any first edition; it belonged to someone who very likely called Tolkien an acquaintance.' The Hobbit, a children's fantasy novel published in 1937, follows hobbit Bilbo Baggins as he is joined by wizard Gandalf and the 13 dwarves of Thorin's Company in a bid to win their treasure from dragon Smaug. Peter Jackson directed the film trilogy, which starred Martin Freeman as titular hobbit Bilbo.

Father tells of ecstatic moment he told teenage son he had won £1m on lottery

A single father who has battled bowel cancer filmed the moment he told his son he had won £1 million on the lottery, with the pair hugging and jumping excitedly around the kitchen. Paul Harvey, of Attleborough, Norfolk, plans to treat his two teenage children to their first foreign holiday together – to Greece. The 51-year-old, full-time dad, who has had an unsettling two years following treatment for bowel cancer, also plans to buy a Fiat 500 for his daughter who is learning to drive. 'Life hasn't always been easy, but the kids mean the world to me, and they always come first,' he said. 'We have never been away abroad together, and I would love to take them both to Greece. 'But first we need to get our passports.' Mr Harvey filmed the moment he broke the news of his win to his son, as the teenager got home from school. With his voice cracking with emotion, Mr Harvey asked his son: 'How many millionaires do you know?' His son, whose details he is keeping private, said 'zero, I've got not money', and Mr Harvey swore and told him: 'You do now.' His son said: 'Shut up, you're joking, you're lying.' Mr Harvey replied: 'On my life, a million pounds, mate.' The pair then excitedly hugged, laughed and jumped around the kitchen. 'I wanted to tell the kids in person so when my son got home I set up my phone to record it,' said Mr Harvey. 'I got a massive lump in my throat as I asked him, 'how many millionaires do you know?'' Mr Harvey also plans to help his son and daughter as they near the end of their full-time education. 'I am so proud of what the kids have achieved already in life,' he said. 'They both have big ideas about what they want to do when they leave school, and I cannot wait to help them in their chosen careers. 'It's the important stuff like helping them to learn to drive and getting them a car and insurance so they can get to college and then work. 'My daughter has a driving test later this year and I would love to get her a second-hand Fiat 500 for her to practise in.' Mr Harvey entered the EuroMillions draw on July 4 but did not realise he had won the life-changing sum until a week later. He got an email from the National Lottery urging him to check his account and get in touch urgently, which he initially thought was a scam. He won by matching the unique raffle code in the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker draw. 'It felt like forever waiting for the kids to get home from school so I could break the news,' he said. 'Their reactions were hilarious and heart-warming. 'We all feel ridiculously excited and relieved in equal measure. 'It just doesn't seem real.' Mr Harvey, who previously lived in Cyprus, said: 'We can afford our very own home, and I can finally have my own bedroom rather than sleeping downstairs. 'And to go on a family holiday altogether will be fantastic. 'I can speak Greek fluently and I can't wait to show off to the kids. 'I lived in Cyprus for 12 years when I was younger. 'I would love to go back one day but for now it's a holiday in Greece for me and the kids. 'This win gives us so many more options, but I want to take my time and do it right.'
