How much rain can fans expect at Springbok game in Cape Town?

A fierce cold front hit Cape Town on Wednesday, and it will bring plenty of rain and chilly temperatures over the next few days, which will undoubtedly also be capturing the attention of Springbok fans heading to the DHL Stadium this Saturday.
As it stands, according to the ever-reliable WindGuru weather forecaster, there is heavy cloud cover predicted throughout the day on Saturday and temperatures are not expected to peak much beyond 14°C.
There is predicted to be some light precipitation around in the morning, but the good news is that there is not expected to be much rain for most of the afternoon.
There could be some showers in the evening from 19:00 onwards, though, and so fans would still do well to pack some raincoats and umbrellas just in case this arrives earlier.
Although the weather might mean this is unlikely to be a typical 'Barbarians' attack-fest, it should still be a very entertaining game.
Looking ahead, Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus said: 'A whole lot of players in this squad have played for the Baabaas, and I've also coached them before, so we have an idea of what to expect from them.
'They don't have much time to train together as a group, but if one looks at the calibre of players they have announced so far and the history between the teams over the years, we know it's going to take a top-class effort to get the desired result.
'That said, we are pleased with how our preparations are going, and our focus in this match will be to get our structures and systems in place for the Test matches coming up. So, this is a vital game for us.'

McReight to captain Wallabies against Springboks

CAPE TOWN - Flank Fraser McReight will captain Australia as they seek a second successive win against South Africa in their Rugby Championship match at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday. McReight takes over the leadership of the Wallabies after regular captain Harry Wilson was injured after scoring two tries during his team's upset 38-22 win over the Springboks in Johannesburg last Saturday. Rob Valetini will replace Wilson at eighthman in one of three injury-enforced changes. Uncapped Corey Toole will start on the left wing in place of Dylan Pietsch, who suffered a broken jaw during last week's victory, while Tom Robertson will scrum down at loosehead prop because veteran James Slipper has returned home under head injury protocols. Coach Joe Schmidt said the Wallabies expected a tough match against the world champion Springboks, who on Tuesday announced 10 changes to their starting team after the Johannesburg defeat. 'The squad as a whole has recovered pretty well from what was a very draining and physical Test match on the highveld last week,' said Schmidt. 'We struggled to contain a powerhouse Springbok start last weekend and we know that we have to improve leading into what is likely to be a bruising encounter,' said Schmidt, referring to a blistering start by the Springboks, who led 22-0 in Johannesburg before the Wallabies stormed back. The Wallabies will be seeking a third successive win after beating the British and Irish Lions 22-12 in Sydney on August 2 before travelling to South Africa. Team (15-1): Tom Wright; Max Jorgensen, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, Len Ikitau, Corey Toole; James O'Connor, Nic White; Rob Valetini, Fraser McReight (captain), Tom Hooper; Will Skelton, Nick Frost; Taniela Tupou, Billy Pollard, Tom Robertson. Replacements: Brandon Paenga-Amosa, Angus Bell, Zane Nonggorr, Jeremy Williams, Nick Champion de Crespigny, Tate McDermott, Tane Edmed, Andrew Kellaway.

Williams accuses Erasmus of ‘bullying' after barbed social media post

Matt Williams has accused Rassie Erasmus, pictured, of 'bullying' after the Springbok boss mocked his Scotland coaching record on social media. Photo: Ayanda Ndamane Independent Media Image: Ayanda Ndamane Independent Media Springbok critic Matt Williams has claimed that Rassie Erasmus' recent social media post highlighting his poor record as an international coach amounted to 'bullying.' Australian-born Williams, a former coach of New South Wales in Super Rugby and of the Scotland national team, has a long history of criticising Erasmus' Springboks. Still, Erasmus, something of a social media king, is known to give as good as he gets. Williams' main objection to the Boks centres on their 'misuse of substitutes with their Bomb Squad.' He has argued that the tactic is 'discriminatory against backs' and even 'contributed to the career-ending injury to Bok prop Steven Kitshoff.' A fortnight ago, Williams inflamed tensions further when he compared the quality of rugby on the recent British and Irish Lions tour to Australia with the Lions tour of South Africa four years ago. "If Ireland had have been playing this way under Schmidt, they very well would have made a RWC Final" Matt Williams reflects on what Joe Schmidt has brought to Australian Rugby since 2024. | #Wallabies Off The Ball Breakfast LIVE 7:30am w/ @UPMCInIreland | #GetBackInAction — Off The Ball (@offtheball) August 19, 2025 Video Player is loading. Next Stay Close ✕ 'The tour to South Africa was one of the worst ever,' Williams said on the Off the Ball podcast. 'The worst games of international rugby I've ever seen. "The way both management teams conducted themselves was disgraceful. Rassie was running on the field as a water carrier; there was a leaked video criticising referees … the style of rugby was an abomination. 'All they did was kick across the field and chase it. It was not played in a good spirit. It was aggressive, I have no problem with aggression, but it wasn't in the spirit of rugby. It tarnished the image of the game.' Williams, who has been a pundit for several Irish media platforms, added that the 'disgrace' of that Lions tour to South Africa had been rectified by the 'excellent' standard of rugby served up by the Lions and the Wallabies in Australia. Erasmus's response — posted on X — was uncompromising. He shared a screenshot of Williams' poor record as Scotland coach. The text read: 'Matt Williams had a 17.65% win percentage during his tenure coaching Scotland. "He coached the team in 17 matches, winning only three of them. Two of those wins were against Tier 2 nations, Japan and Samoa, according to Wikipedia.' Erasmus's caption was barbed: 'Heal, Sir Matt.' Williams replied: 'Hi Rassie, playing the man and not the ball again? Always the sign of a weak argument.' On Tuesday, following the Boks' shock 38-22 defeat to the Wallabies at Ellis Park, Williams spoke again on Off the Ball: 'Really, what Rassie was doing was just bullying me. Just trying to say: 'Well, your opinion doesn't count.' "It didn't address the issue. Surely the best coach in the world has got something better to do than listen to what I'm saying.'
