Carlisle United's Head of Football Operations discusses plans ahead of new season
Marc Tierney was appointed into the senior role in Carlisle United's backroom team joining from his previous role as Director of Football at fellow National League side Altrincham.
The former defender spent time on loan at Brunton Park between 2004 and 2005.
Speaking to ITV Border about what his role at the football club will include the 39-year-old said: "Yeah it is Head of Football and in terms of football there are lots of different departments.
"I think everyone just thinks of the first team and working with first team coaches but it is really quite a broad brush stroke. That includes medical, academy there are a number of multifaceted roles with in it.
"I just can't wait to get in and try and make things better by working with different people in different departments."
Tierney said the role at Carlisle United was one he could not turn down.
He said: "I think when you look at the size of the club, having been here a few years ago now, the vision of the club, the ambition and the fan base makes it really attractive.
"Since I have been in the role other people have thought it is attractive when you spell out what the vision is and what we are looking to do. It has not disappointed since walking through the door."
Tierney believes that the ongoing work behind the scenes at Brunton Park is putting the club in a good position moving into the new season.
Tierney said: "First and foremost - Tom and Patty - it was really refreshing to see them when I was here for my first week being first in and last out of the club and really putting the work in.
"They are really welcoming people, really humble people and honoured to have this role at the football club.
Talking about his discussions with United's Head Coach, Tierney said: "When meeting Mark, I had come across him in professional roles before, but meeting him he is a good person.
"Obviously his football knowledge is huge and he has been successful as a manager and as a player and I think that mix of all of us communicating and working together bodes well for the football club."

Financially stricken former EFL side are SAVED from going bust - as takeover is approved by governing body
The National League has approved the takeover of turmoiled Morecambe, with the Shrimps cleared to start their season next weekend should the sale go through. A group known as Panjab Warriors struck a deal to save the beleaguered Lancashire club, which was relegated from League Two last season. Amid grave concerns over their existence, Morecambe had their first three matches postponed thanks to an inability to meet financial obligations. However, National League officials say they have now given the green light to the takeover and that their suspension of the club will be lifted upon receipt of the sale and purchase agreement. A transfer embargo will remain in place until HMRC and other creditors including staff and players have been paid. The statement added: 'It is the intention for Morecambe's first National League game to be on Saturday 23rd August at home v Altrincham FC. 'The National League would like to welcome the new owners and to thank everybody involved in helping to secure the future of the Club and reaching this point.' An ongoing saga dominated the summer included Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy writing to Morecambe's controversial owner Jason Whittingham, to urge him to sell. In July it appeared there had been a breakthrough for the 105-year-old club, when Whittingham said he agreed terms with Panjab Warriors, although the takeover failed to materialise. Both sides subsequently agreed to a mediation session last week. Morecambe had ceased operations in late July, following their suspension by the National League.

Back in first place in NL West, Dodgers aim to sweep rival Padres
August 17 - The Los Angeles Dodgers have dealt with plenty of injuries this season, along with stretches on the schedule with play below expectations, and yet something about the San Diego Padres brings out the best in the World Series champions. The Dodgers will try for a three-game sweep of their Southern California rivals when they host the Padres on Sunday. After they held on for a 3-2 victory on Friday, the Dodgers turned six walks issued by Dylan Cease over the first two innings into a 6-0 victory over the Padres on Saturday, while regaining sole possession of first place in the National League West. "Obviously wins are great. We're going to sleep well tonight, be ready to (sweep) tomorrow," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "I'm just happy that we're playing better baseball. It just seems like we're playing clean baseball. We're minimizing the walks, taking walks, not making outs on the bases, and converting outs when we need to." In Sunday's series finale, Los Angeles is set to send right-hander Tyler Glasnow to the mound. Glasnow (1-1, 3.08 ERA) has not won any of his past 10 starts and yet has a 2.34 ERA over his past six outings and has averaged 7.5 strikeouts over his last four. In six career appearances (three starts) against the Padres, he is 0-0 with a 2.63 ERA. The Dodgers' offense scored five times in the first two innings Saturday and did it on just one hit. At the same time, the Dodgers recorded three of their first four outs on defense when catcher Will Smith threw out Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado and Xander Bogaerts trying to steal second base. The Dodgers are now 7-2 against the Padres this season and have a chance at the sweep after entering the series with a 10-14 record since the All-Star break. The Padres will counter with right-hander Yu Darvish (2-3, 5.61), a former Dodger who has made just seven season starts because of right elbow inflammation. Darvish is 5-5 over 15 career starts against Los Angeles, with a 2.27 ERA. Darvish had a 1.72 ERA against the Dodgers in three regular-season starts last season then went 1-1 in a pair of playoff appearances, while allowing three runs over 13 2/3 total innings. After the Padres entered the series with manager Mike Shildt praising his team's relentless offense, the Padres have scored two total runs in two games after they averaged 6.2 runs in five consecutive victories before the series. On Saturday, San Diego had six hits to five for Los Angeles and lost by six runs. "Listen, that was an odd game," Shildt said, when asked about three base stealers thrown out in the first two innings. "We had a plan, and they made some plays. And when you're down, it hurts a little bit more. But you know, it's an odd game when you outhit a team and lose 6-0." The Padres did not use left-handed hitters Gavin Sheets or Ryan O'Hearn in the starting lineup the past two games against left-handed starting pitchers, with both possibilities to play Sunday against Glasnow. --Field Level Media
