The Shura Council participated in the third Parliamentary Economic Forum for the Mediterranean and Gulf regions that was held in Marrakesh, Morocco, over two days under the theme 'Unprecedented Economic, Trade and Energy Challenges'.
The Council was represented at the forum by Shura Council Member and Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean HE Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al Subaie, and Council Member HE Amair bin Abdulla Alnaemi.
In his speech at the forum, Al Subaie emphasised that the State of Qatar, by adopting policies of economic openness and preventive diplomacy, plays a pivotal role in building regional partnerships and contributes to achieving stability and development through clean energy projects, economic connectivity, and pioneering environmental legislation. He noted major investments and national initiatives to support the transition towards sustainability and a circular economy.
He stressed Qatar's continued intensive efforts, alongside the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America, to mediate an end to the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, which has resulted in thousands of civilian deaths and injuries, most of them women and children. He also emphasised the need for the entry of aid and medicine into the Gaza Strip.
He reiterated that the just solution lies in enabling the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, as this is the only way to achieve security and stability in the region.
The forum's sessions addressed ways to enhance economic and trade cooperation between the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions. They noted the importance of joint policies to address the challenges of energy, digitalisation, and geopolitical transformations, as well as the development of legislative mechanisms that support investment and integration in infrastructure and renewable energy and enhance the governance of artificial intelligence.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Council delegation met with Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia, Afrim Gashi, and head of the delegation of the parliament of the Republic of Montenegro Dejan Durovic. The two meetings addressed a number of topics related to strengthening parliamentary cooperation as well as exchanging views on the most prominent issues raised during the forum.

Netanyahu has lost the plot over Gaza: NZ PM

Wellington: New Zealand's Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has criticized his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu in unusually harsh terms, calling the latest attacks in the Gaza Strip 'utterly, utterly unacceptable.' Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, he said he thought Netanyahu 'has lost the plot.' Israel has repeatedly ignored appeals from the international community for unhindered humanitarian access in Gaza, thereby risking further calamities, he added. New Zealand is very far away and has hardly any trade relations with Israel, he pointed out. However, he insisted that the Pacific nation stands for strong values and speaks out clearly on them. The 'forcible displacement of people' and 'an annexation of Gaza' would be a breach of international law, Luxon emphasized. The government in Wellington is considering joining countries such as France, Canada, and Australia in officially recognizing a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September. Luxon warned that the latest developments could destroy the path to a two-state solution. (DPA)

Qatar slams Israeli PM's ‘Greater Israel' vision remarks

QNA Doha The State of Qatar has expressed its condemnation and denunciation of the remarks made by the Prime Minister of the Israeli occupation regarding the so-called 'Greater Israel' vision, considering them an extension of the occupation's arrogance-based approach, fomenting crises and conflicts, and constituting an egregious encroachment upon the sovereignty of nations, international law, the United Nations Charter, and resolutions of international legitimacy. The fabricated Israeli allegations and futile incitement will never undermine the legitimate rights of Arab nations and peoples. There must be solidarity within the international community to counter such provocations, which expose the region to violence and anarchy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed in a statement on Wednesday. The ministry reiterated the State of Qatar's full support for all efforts aimed at achieving a just, comprehensive, and enduring peace in the region, and at consolidating security and stability both regionally and globally.
