'Rough up local crook': Argentina's Milein insults Spanish PM Sanchez in expletive-laden speech
Argentina President Javier Milei on Sunday renewed his expletive-laden attack on Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, labeling him a 'crook' during a visit to Madrid for an economic forum.
According to a Buenos Aires Times report, in a fiery speech where he declared 'death to socialism,' Milei intensified the ongoing feud between the two leaders.
Their dispute dates back to last year when Milei accused Sánchez's wife of corruption, prompting Spain to withdraw its ambassador from Argentina.

Milei delivered his remarks at the Madrid Economic Forum, a libertarian event with strong connections to cryptocurrency circles.
With rock music blaring and some audience members hurling insults at Sánchez, Milei spoke animatedly, taking another jab at the Spanish prime minister, added the report.
'If you want to rough up the local crook too, I've got no problem with it,' Buenos Aires Times quoted Milei as saying, referring to Sanchez.
Later in his speech, which centered on defending his administration's economic policies, Milei reacted to audience members who shouted, 'We need you here!'
'I will always be on your side when it comes to opposing the socialist scum,' he was quoted as saying, followed by an expletive referring to Sánchez's party, to thunderous applause.
As of late Sunday, Spanish officials had not responded to Milei's remarks, according to Buenos Aires Times report.
Milei's comments came just hours after tens of thousands rallied in Madrid at an opposition-led protest, accusing Sánchez's government of corruption. Sánchez's wife, brother, and a former top aide are all under investigation in separate graft cases — probes he has dismissed as a right-wing smear campaign.
Milei, who took office in December 2023, has vowed to revive Argentina's ailing economy through aggressive spending cuts and deregulation. While his government recorded the country's first budget surplus in over a decade, rising inflation, job losses, and falling consumer spending have fueled public unease.
At the forum, the La Libertad Avanza leader delivered a forceful defence of his economic agenda.

'Our goals were very ambitious. They said it was impossible, and now, after a year-and-a-half, we have exceeded all our campaign goals. They told us it was impossible to make a five-point adjustment in a month, and we did it,' the president was quoted as saying.
'The model is definitely working. Therefore, what I want to leave you with is the testimony that the ideas of freedom work,' Milei said.
'We know what needs to be done, we know how to do it. Therefore, let us not lack the courage to do it, because we are the ones who can get everyone back on their feet,' continued the president, whose speech was widely applauded.
Milei also declared that 'by 2026, inflation in Argentina will be a thing of the past.'
'Today, Argentina has embraced the path of growth. In 40 years, it will be the world's leading power, without a doubt,' he claimed.
As is typical, President Milei, who refuses to hold press conferences, took aim at the media, denouncing 'corrupt journalists who spread filthy news'.

'We don't have enough real journalists,' he added.
Milei arrived in Madrid on Saturday from Rome, where he met with Pope Leo XIV, as part of a 10-day tour of Europe and Israel.
During his visit, he also met with Santiago Abascal, his political ally and leader of Spain's far-right Vox party. No meeting with Prime Minister Sánchez is scheduled.
On Sunday, Milei also held talks with Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia, who has been living in exile in Spain since September.

Putin Surprises Trump With English Invite. Here's How Many Languages The Russian President Knows
Last Updated: Putin usually relies on translators in formal settings but occasionally speaks English informally to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere The highly awaited meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin opened with a warm exchange and a dramatic jet flyover at a US military base in Alaska. However, the talks ended without any breakthrough, as both leaders admitted they could not agree on steps to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In an unusual move, Putin switched from his native Russian and addressed Trump directly in English during their joint press conference, extending an invitation to visit Moscow. With the words, 'Next time in Moscow," Putin broke from his usual reliance on interpreters, adding a striking moment to the otherwise unproductive summit. Putin's rare use of English quickly caught global attention. More than just an invitation, it carried political weight. His choice of words and Trump's casual response sparked global curiosity, how many languages does Putin actually speak, and is he fluent in English or just comfortable enough to use it informally? Here's an insight into the linguistic skills of both leaders. Putin's Linguistic World Russian is President Vladimir Putin's mother tongue, and he is naturally fully proficient in it. Additionally, Putin is fluent in German, a skill acquired during his posting in Dresden (East Germany) as a KGB officer in the 1980s. He is still capable of conversing directly with German journalists. Regarding English, reports suggest that Putin can understand it well and occasionally corrects interpreters. Why Did Putin Invite Trump In English? Putin rarely uses English on formal platforms, relying instead on translators. However, in informal settings, he sometimes speaks English to create a more comfortable atmosphere. His comment, 'Next time in Moscow," to Trump could be seen as a friendly, light-hearted gesture. Putin likely found it more effective to communicate directly without an interpreter, showcasing his command over the English language. How Many Languages Does Trump Speak? In contrast, the linguistic abilities of Donald Trump are straightforward. He speaks only English and has never claimed proficiency in any other language. Although he has jokingly mentioned knowing a few words in Spanish or French, he has not demonstrated this as a skill. This means that, in terms of language, Trump remains limited to English, while Putin shows a wider linguistic range. Style Expressed Through Words This brief exchange between Putin and Trump has become a global topic of discussion, highlighting a more human aspect of their interaction than politics. With just one sentence in English, Putin demonstrated that style can sometimes matter more than words. Trump, who speaks only English, responded with a natural smile. Observers of global diplomacy note that this small linguistic incident shows how even a single sentence can make significant headlines. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Spanish child castellers form human pyramid in Siddhivinayak temple courtyard
Mumbai: On the occasion of Independence Day Aug 15, a troupe of visiting Spanish Castellers (equivalent of govindas) formed a tall human pyramid in the courtyard of Siddhivinayak temple in Prabhadevi. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Many of them were little children who are light and agile, and are taught to quickly clamber to the topmost layer of the pyramid. The word castellers derives from human "castle makers", and reportedly originates from a festival held to honour Mother Mary in Valencia. The 'human tower' sport is popular in Spain and their castellers have often visited Mumbai and Thane in past years during Janmashtami to perform at events in Thane. They often climb ten layers atop one another, leaving onlookers awestruck. Siddhivinayak temple's deputy executive officer Sandeep Rathod said Friday's unique Indo-Spanish cultural exchange was enjoyed by all. Since 2010-11, various troupes of Spanish castellers had been visiting MMR, first to watch, and then participate, in dahi handi festivities organised by NCP (SP) leader Jitendra Awhad. This year, it is Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik who has invited the castellers for his Sanskruti dahi handi event in Thane Aug 16. His son Purvesh said, "The castellers will form a seven level human pyramid at the Sarnaiks' handi in Thane Saturday. Purvesh said, "When we started Pro Govinda, the vision was always to take Maharashtra's beloved dahi handi tradition to the world. Inviting Marecs de Salt, the renowned Spanish Castellers, is the first step in that journey. This cultural exchange is about celebrating two incredible human tower traditions on a single platform, inspiring unity, and showcasing our heritage internationally. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This is just the beginning." However in Maharashtra, children below the age of 14 are forbidden by law from participating in dahi handi. Still, many little underage players were witnessed climbing the dahi handi at political events in Thane in 2024. No police action was reported.

Flick keeps faith in Barcelona to register new recruits ahead of LaLiga opener
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick remains confident his club will register key players including new signings Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford in time for Saturday's LaLiga opener at Mallorca, despite ongoing financial fair play complications. Independence Day 2025 Modi signals new push for tech independence with local chips Before Trump, British used tariffs to kill Indian textile Bank of Azad Hind: When Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose gave India its own currency The Spanish champions are still scrambling to register players due to LaLiga's strict financial rules, having spent more on signings and wages than they have generated in revenue for multiple seasons. "For me, the situation, you can imagine I'm not happy about that. But I know the situation and I believe in the club," Flick told reporters on Friday. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Crossout 2.0: Supercharged Crossout Play Now Undo "We have to wait till tomorrow. It was the same situation last season. "We will focus on what we can change and what is in our hands. The other things, I believe in the club." Live Events Barcelona signed goalkeeper Garcia from local rivals Espanyol in June while Wojciech Szczesny has signed an extension, but neither player has been registered yet. The club's registration headache has been partly resolved through some dramatic internal manoeuvring involving captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The German keeper initially refused to sign a long-term medical leave agreement that would clear 80% of his wages and help the club comply with financial rules. Sidelined for at least three months due to surgery, he was stripped of his captaincy before it was reinstated when he eventually agreed to the deal. "I think the most important thing is that everyone speaks together. Marc and the club, they spoke," Flick said. "The most important thing for me, for Marc and the club is that he comes back. "He's shown for many years here that he's a fantastic goalkeeper and the important thing is that he comes back and is ready to play. We'll all help him, we're all on his side." The departure of 34-year-old defender Inigo Martinez to Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr has also freed up crucial salary space, although Flick admitted mixed feelings about losing the veteran who was a mainstay in central defence. "I was a little bit surprised but I could totally understand him. I'm not happy that he left, he's a fantastic player and has a great personality," Flick said. "He was one of our leaders, he was outstanding not only as a player but also a personality in the dressing room. He deserves this and I wish him all the best." Despite the defensive reshuffle, Flick indicated he will not rush into the transfer market, backing the versatile 23-year-old Gerard Martin to step up. "Gerard can also play in this position. From what I've seen, I really appreciate that. Last season, as a left back, he was fantastic and improved a lot," he added. "When he played as centre back, he was doing well. He's a good option. I like players who can play in different positions."
