Two women actors in fray for key AMMA posts

The Hindu2 days ago
Two women actors — Swetha Menon, and Kukku Parameswaran — are in the fray for the post of president and secretary respectively when the deadline for withdrawal of nominations for the election to the executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) ended on Thursday evening.
Ms. Menon will battle it out with actor Devan for the top post. Ms. Parameswaran will face actor Raveendran in the contest for the post of secretary. The election is scheduled on August 15. Actor Ansiba Hassan was elected joint secretary as all others who had submitted their nominations for the post withdrew from the contest.
Actors Unni Sivapal and Anoop Chandran will vie for the post of treasurer. Those remaining in the fray for the vice-president posts include Jayan Cherthala, Lakshmipriya, and Nasser Latheef.
Baburaj, Jagadeesh opt out
The last day for the withdrawal of nominations had all the elements of a potboiler as actor Baburaj, who had filed the nomination for the post of secretary, opted out of the race amidst criticism by a section of the actors that those who are facing allegations of sexual misconduct must stay away from the election. In a Facebook post, he said that he was quitting from all works related to the association. This was not out of fear, he said.
Mr. Baburaj said that he was pained by the allegations raised against him by some of the members, despite having worked in the association for the last eight years. 'They could have defeated me after going through the electoral process. That would have been democratic. But I am unable to move ahead facing the allegations,' he said.
Actor Jagadeesh opted out of the race for the post of president after he spoke with senior actors, including Mohanlal, Mammootty and Suresh Gopi. It was stated that he decided to withdraw from the fray amid the support from various quarters for a woman president.

New Jersey Man Buys Limousine Off Facebook At Unbelievable Price, Wife's Reaction Wins Internet

A man from New Jersey bought a second-hand limousine for fun from Facebook Marketplace. His wife called it childish, but the family's joy made the quirky purchase go viral When we think of big, luxurious cars, the first image that often comes to mind is that of a limousine. Known for its long frame and lavish interiors, a limousine is usually seen as a symbol of wealth and status. Recently, one such car became the centre of a viral moment, not because of its grandeur, but due to how it was bought. A man named Tom Adam, from New Jersey, United States, spotted an old limousine listed at a surprisingly cheap price on Facebook Marketplace. Without wasting any time, he purchased it for just £1,300 (approximately Rs 1.5 lakh). His spontaneous buy and the joyous aftermath have now gone viral, with millions viewing the heartwarming video online. Tom, 43, had always dreamed of owning a limousine, not for show, but simply for fun. Though the vehicle wasn't in the best shape and needed repairs costing another £1,000 (around Rs 1.1 lakh), he bought it without a second thought. Tom's wife, Avigail Adam, initially thought it was just another odd whim of her husband's. 'I rolled my eyes, thinking this was another childish act of Tom," she admitted. But the moment she saw him grinning ear to ear inside the car, her opinion changed. 'When I stepped inside and saw how happy he was, I couldn't help but smile too. This was his dream, and now it's come true. I've always believed in turning dreams into reality," Avigail added. The couple shared the moment on Instagram, where the video quickly went viral. In the clip, Tom, Avigail, and their four children can be seen laughing and enjoying a ride in the limousine, which the kids were equally thrilled about. The internet loved their quirky purchase. One user commented, 'The limousine is also a family car now!" while another said, 'This is the best use of adult money I've ever seen." Jokes also poured in, with one user writing, 'If my husband has even nine pence left, he'll buy a limousine," while another added, 'When your heart remains young even after you've grown up…" Avigail, in her social media post, confirmed they had spent another £1,000 on repairs, calling it 'a moving living room." However, she warned others, 'If you're planning to get a limousine from Facebook Marketplace, remember, parking it is a nightmare!"
