JSO: Inmate facing murder charge after setting a man on fire in 2024

The Jacksonville Sheriffs Office has announced that an inmate in custody will be facing a murder charge for setting a man on fire in 2024.

The inmate, 60-year-old Kimberly Statum, was arrested in November 2024 for he attempted murder of 67-year-old Lee Payne after he was found with severe burns inside his home. Payne was brought to a burn unit in Gainesville to be treated, while Statum was arrested on scene. Payne died of his injuries later in December 2024.
Payne's death was ruled a homicide, and after presenting evidence to the State Attorney's office, Statum was charged with Murder and Arson.

'I've been here for over 7 years and this is the second shooting since I've been here,' said Wright. Advertisement Action News Jax reported when an 18-year-old, Drew Allan Wright III, was killed there in 2022. OPPD said Tuesday that everyone involved is accounted for and cooperating with investigators. The identity of the suspected shooter has not yet been released. Bruce Allen Hamilton is under arrest in Clay County, following an armed standoff in Green Cove Springs Monday night. It happened on Cold Stream Lane. Deputies were called there to help a family who said Hamilton was drunk, armed and making threats toward family members. After hours of negotiations, investigators said Hamilton surrendered peacefully. No one was hurt. Sheriff Michelle Cook issued this statement in a news release: 'Our deputies and specialized units demonstrated incredible restraint, discipline, and teamwork in resolving a volatile and dangerous situation. I'm grateful no one was injured and proud of the professionalism shown by everyone involved. This incident is a strong reminder of the risks our deputies face every day to protect this community.' A woman faces multiple charges after a baby died in DeKalb County. Tamara Salter remains in jail with no bond.
