Melaka KPDN Tracking Five Essential Household Items In Op Kesan 4.0

MELAKA, July 18 (Bernama) -- The Melaka Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is focusing on inspecting five essential household items under 'Op Kesan 4.0' launched today to ensure there is no price manipulation of basic consumer goods. Melaka KPDN director Dr Mohd Hazimin Jamaludin said the five items were condensed milk, chocolate malt drinks, wheat flour, sardines and white bread. "This focus is also part of the monitoring measures following the implementation of the Sales Tax rate review and the expanded scope of the Service Tax (SST), which began on July 1. "For the period from July 1 to yesterday (July 17), a total of 35 premises involving 63 stock-keeping units (SKUs) were inspected and a written notice was issued involving three SKUs including a viral case related to the price of ice," he said after conducting an Op Kesan 4.0 monitoring at a supermarket in Angkasa Nuri, Durian Tunggal here today. Elaborating further, Mohd Hazimin said that apart from tracking prices, his department also paid attention to the issue of manipulation in the quantity of goods, such as reducing packaging size without a significant change in price. "Sometimes the price remains the same, but the quantity decreases. What is important is not just cheapness, but fairness to consumers. "We also encourage users who detect any non-compliance to file a complaint via WhatsApp at 019-8488000, the e-complaint portal ( or the call centre 1-800-886-800," he said. Meanwhile, he said the Melaka KPDN enforcement statistics for the period from Jan 1 to July 17 recorded 234 cases under various Acts with a seizure value of RM261,360. "The total value in compounds issued was RM66,700, while the total in fines reached RM299,500. In all, 14 individuals were also detained, involving 13 cases of arrest for further investigation," he said.

Upgraded Siti Khadijah Market Set To Become key Tourist Destination By 2026

GENERAL KOTA BHARU, July 18 (Bernama) -- The iconic Siti Khadijah Market is undergoing a major upgrade and is set to become a key tourist destination in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the upgrading works are expected to be fully completed this year and will offer greater comfort for visitors and 1,500 local traders operating there. He said the project includes refurbishing public toilets into clean, fragrant and tourist-friendly facilities, installing new electrical wiring, repainting the building and enhancing the interior structure. 'I would like to thank the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) for allocating RM5.5 million in special funds to help the Kota Bharu Municipal Council (MPKB) implement this project. 'My ministry has added another RM1.5 million, bringing the total allocation for the Siti Khadijah Market upgrading project to RM7 million,' he told a press conference after visiting the market here today. Nga said the market transformation is part of the MADANI government's efforts to boost the local economy through tourism, in line with the aspirations of the MADANI Economy framework and the Visit Malaysia Year campaign. He also visited the MyKiosk project, a joint initiative between the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) and MPKB, where all 17 kiosks have been fully occupied by local entrepreneurs. 'A burger seller told me he now earns more than RM10,000 a month. 'We charge a very affordable rent of just RM150 per month, or RM5 a day. In fact, KPKT is offering six months of free rent to help them kickstart their businesses,' he said.

A wide variety of vibrant plants is being meticulously arranged at strategic locations, including the main venue at the Labuan International Sea Sports Complex, the Financial Park Complex, major roundabouts, public parks, and key gateways, such as Labuan Airport and ferry terminals. Labuan Corporation chief executive officer, Mohd Sukuran Taib, said that the initiative aims to transform Labuan into a 'living garden', reflecting this year's festival theme of celebrating biodiversity, conservation and community creativity. The Borneo Flora Festival 2025, organised by Putrajaya Corporation in collaboration with Labuan Corporation, the Federal Territories Department, and Kuala Lumpur City Hall, will officially kick off on July 26. Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, is scheduled to grace the opening ceremony at the Labuan International Sea Sports Complex. This year's festival will feature more than 29 themed gardens, showcasing exotic and endangered flora native to Borneo, alongside contemporary landscape designs presented by local councils, private sector players, and community groups. 'The five-day event will include plant exhibitions, soft and hard landscape gardens, eco-talks, art installations, live performances by Malaysian artists, and family-friendly activities designed to raise environmental awareness and promote sustainable living,' Mohd Sukuran said. He added that the polybag planting strategy was adopted not only to enhance aesthetics, but also to allow for flexible, controlled growth and easier relocation, as the final designs take shape. 'Each phase of planting has been meticulously planned to ensure that the flowers are in full bloom when the festival begins. The strategic placement of 250,000 flowering plants across the island is part of our broader effort to infuse Labuan with the vibrant spirit of the festival,' he said. He said that the massive undertaking involves close coordination between municipal landscape teams, horticulturists, and local volunteers. The Borneo Flora Festival is expected to draw thousands of visitors, both domestic and international, including tourists from neighbouring Kalimantan and Brunei, boosted by an aggressive promotional campaign and improved ferry connectivity to Kota Kinabalu and beyond. With hotel rooms, homestays, and serviced apartments still available, organisers are encouraging visitors to plan ahead and experience what promises to be Labuan's most colourful and eco-conscious celebration yet. – Bernama
