A Cry For Humanity: The Druze People Amid The Tragedy In Syria

Memri2 days ago
In the heart of Syria, a quiet and resilient community is being silenced – again. The Druze, a peaceful religious minority known for their deep-rooted traditions of tolerance, loyalty, and spiritual wisdom, are facing a new chapter of pain. Innocent families, women, and children have fallen victim to horrific acts of violence. Entire villages have been assaulted. Elders who stood for dignity were humiliated. Children who once dreamed of peace now live in fear – or worse, are no longer with us.
Sheikh Dr. Kasem Bader
On July 15, reports from southern Syria indicated that Syrian government military forces forcibly shaved the moustaches of Druze men. Jews endured the same treatment under the Nazi regime.
On July 16, 2025, the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights (SOHR) published on its Facebook page a video showing a Syrian soldier wearing an ISIS patch on his body armor. In the video, the soldier said that the Ansar Al‑Tawhid Brigades of the Syrian 82nd Division were preparing to enter the Druze city of Sweida in order to "purify it" from what he called the "filth" of Druze leader Hikmat Al‑Hijri and his followers. What Is Happening In Sweida Is A Humanitarian Crisis
As someone from this community, I speak with both heartbreak and urgency. What is happening today in Sweida and the surrounding regions is not just a regional conflict. It is a humanitarian crisis. Extremist groups have targeted our people simply for who we are – people of faith, of peace, of coexistence.
We do not seek vengeance. We do not raise weapons in hate. We raise our voices in truth. The world must know: The silence surrounding these atrocities is deafening.
Where is the international community? Where are the protectors of human rights? Where is the justice for children executed in front of their parents? For mothers who have buried their sons? For holy men who were dishonored in their homes?
This is a call for action – not tomorrow, but today.
We, the Druze, are few in number but strong in spirit. We are not asking for privilege. We are demanding protection. Recognition. Intervention.

Shafaq News – Suwayda On Sunday, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani held a tripartite meeting with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and US Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack to discuss the situation in Suwayda. According to a statement by the Syrian Foreign Ministry, aal-Shibani, for his part, praised the roles of Jordan and the United States in securing the ceasefire and supporting Syria's efforts to stabilize Suwayda and protect its residents. Safadi and Barrack expressed full support for the truce and for the Syrian government's role in ensuring its implementation, welcoming the Syrian government's pledge to hold accountable those responsible for abuses against civilians during recent clashes. The three sides agreed on a set of operational steps to reinforce the agreement, including the deployment of Syrian security forces across Suwayda, the release of detainees held by all parties, and the promotion of local reconciliation efforts. They also underscored the need for expanded humanitarian access and the restoration of state authority under the rule of law. لقاء ثلاثي في عمان جمع وزير الخارجية والمغتربين ونظيره الأردني والمبعوث الأمريكي إلى #سوريا — وزارة الخارجية والمغتربين السورية (@syrianmofaex) July 19, 2025 The ceasefire comes after days of deadly clashes between local armed factions and Bedouin tribal fighters in and around Suwayda. Earlier, Syrian Interior Ministry spokesperson Nour al-Din al-Baba announced that all tribal fighters had been cleared from the city and that violence within urban neighborhoods had ceased. بعد جهود حثيثة بذلتها وزارة الداخلية لتطبيق اتفاق وقف إطلاق النار وذلك بعد انتشار قواتها في المنطقة الشمالية والغربية لمحافظة السويداء، تم إخلاء مدينة السويداء من كافة مقاتلي العشائر، وإيقاف الاشتباكات داخل أحياء المدينة #نور_الدين_البابا #المتحدث_باسم_وزارة_الداخلية_السورية — نور الدين البابا (@SyrianMoiSpokes) July 19, 2025 Meanwhile, humanitarian aid convoys arrived in Suwayda today under the supervision of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. The convoys included ambulances, food, and medical supplies. According to Health Minister Musab al-Ali, only Red Crescent teams were permitted entry, while the government delegation accompanying the aid was turned back to Damascus after being denied access by local authorities. The Health Ministry's media office confirmed to state news agency SANA that the official convoy returned to the capital, leaving the Red Crescent to carry out the aid delivery alone. In a statement, the prominent Druze religious leader Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri welcomed all humanitarian assistance provided through international and relief organizations. Calling for an immediate end to the 'brutal assault on Suwayda,' the statement condemned disinformation campaigns and inflammatory rumors aimed at fueling violence and sectarianism.

Colorado Imam Karim Abu Zaid In Illinois: The West Invented The Notion Of 'Abrahamic' Faiths To Legitimize Israel In The Region; If Jews Want To Follow Moses, They Should Also Follow Jesus And Muhamma

Colorado‑based imam Dr. Karim Abu Zaid said in a Friday, July 4, 2025 sermon at the Islamic Community Center of Des Plaines, Illinois that the Western world has realized the Middle East revolves around faith and religion, and that the Zionist State of Israel has been planted in a region of Muslims and Christians. This led them, he said, to "blend" Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and "spices" from other faiths to create what he called the "Abrahamic faith." Abu Zaid stated that Muslims are not like the Western world and that tolerance does not mean compromising their belief system in order to appear tolerant. He added that Muslims are the true followers of Moses, not the Jews, and that if the Jews want to be among the true followers of Moses, they should follow Jesus and then the Prophet Muhammad. Karim Abu Zaid: "The Western world realized that the conflict in the Middle East is based on religion. They realized that faith is the shaker of this part of the world. People believe in something there. Now, we inserted a body called the Zionist State of Israel within that environment. You've got Christians and Muslims... These are Zionists. [...] "[They said:] 'Let us come up with something that can be put together.' Like let's put Islam, Christianity, Judaism in a mixture and blend them together, and maybe add some spices here and there, some Buddhism, some Hinduism, and produce something called the Abrahamic faith. [...] "We are not like you. [...] "Tolerance, being tolerant, is in the area of treating people, interacting with people justly and fairly. But I'm sorry, I cannot compromise my belief system in order to appear tolerant to you. [...] "And you've got Muslim countries who are engaged in this conspiracy. Brothers and sisters in Islam – the Abraham Accords, the normalization, you hear that going over and over again... It will not sell, brothers and sisters in Islam. [...] "We are the true followers of Moses, not them. If the [Jews] want to be amongst those followers of Moses, they should follow Jesus and then Muhammad."
