'The sanctioned amount will be spent not only for the event but also for infrastructure development, including a new world-class synthetic turf in Madurai,' he added.
'Hosting back-to-back high-profile hockey events [Asian Champions Trophy in 2023 and the Junior World Cup in 2025] is a testament to the excellence in hosting and the support provided by the Tamil Nadu State government,' Hockey India Secretary General, Bhola Nath Singh, said.
Hockey India Treasurer, Sekar J. Manoharan, lauded the decision to host the event in Madurai, providing people from the southern parts of the State an opportunity to witness top-class hockey in their backyard.
'The southern zone in Tamil Nadu is a hockey hub. Building a stadium there and hosting an event will be a huge success. The decision to build a viewing gallery along with the new pitch in Madurai will allow many people to come and watch the games and get inspired,' said Manoharan, the President of the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu.
'Our junior team has been doing well, and we hope to see the side finish on the podium in front of the home crowd,' he added.
Manoharan also confirmed that all the clearances have been sought from the central government to allow Pakistan, which qualified for the tournament after finishing runner-up in the 2024 Junior Asia Cup, to participate in the under-21 event.

Tamil Thalaivas has announced Pawan Sehrawat as the captain for the upcoming Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 12 season while Arjun Deshwal has been named as the side's vice-captain. Pawan became the most expensive player in PKL when Tamil Thalaivas signed him for Rs. 2.26 crore in Season 9. Representing the Reserve Bank of India, he has also brought pride to the nation, winning the gold medal at the 2019 South Asian Games and the 2023 Asian Kabaddi Championship. Joining him in leadership is Arjun, a decorated raider who currently serves as a DSP in the Uttar Pradesh State police force. His stellar career includes winning the gold medal with the Indian national team at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Speaking about the leadership duo, head coach Sanjeev Balyan said, 'Pawan is a proven leader and one of the most feared players in the league. His ability to handle pressure, inspire his teammates, and deliver in crucial moments makes him the ideal captain to lead Tamil Thalaivas this season.' 'I've had the privilege of working with Arjun when he captained Jaipur Pink Panthers, and I know firsthand the dedication, discipline, and composure he brings to the game. He is a natural leader on and off the mat, and together with Pawan, they form a formidable leadership core,' the coach added. Last season, the Thalaivas finished ninth on the points table, winning only eight matches out of the 22 fixtures, and failed to make the playoffs.

Wanted to leave KKR despite winning IPL 2014: Robin Uthappa's big revelation
Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opener Robin Uthappa has said that he was ready to leave the franchise right after helping them win the 2014 Indian Premier League (IPL) title. He was the highest run-getter in the season which won him the Orange Cap, but wanted to return to the auction to make the most of his market was signed by KKR for Rs 5 crore at the 2014 auction after his previous team Pune Warriors India was removed by the IPL council. The move proved to be a masterstroke for KKR as Uthappa enjoyed his best season in the tournament, scoring 660 runs at an average of 44.00. Opening the innings alongside captain Gautam Gambhir, he became a key player in KKR's title-winning Pune Warriors India, I went to KKR for Rs 5 crore. After my big year (with the bat), we won the IPL (2014) and I got the Orange Cap, I wanted to be released. I wanted to go back in the auction. I wanted to maximize the opportunity to earn more. To be honest, how much longer are you gonna play? Till 35, 36. And I was already 29 by then. So, I wanted to maximize my earnings,' Uthappa admitted on the 'KimAppa' show hosted by Jarrod Kimber on YouTube. The wicketkeeper-batter went on to play for the franchise until 2019 after which he joined the inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals for INR 3 crore. He did play for Chennai Super Kings for two seasons and made key contributions in the fag end of the 2021 campaign. However, his performance never peaked after his 2014 season with KKR.'I went and had a conversation with the leadership group at KKR. They denied and said we can't let you go. We want you to play for us. We want you to play for us for a long time. And then I had a conversation with them and there was no way I could've earned more than Rs 5 crore based on the contract at that point. So I let it go. I just wanted to try and it was worth having a conversation,' he said, recalling the instance after the winning who was last seen in CSK threads in the IPL 2022 season, has played for six teams over the course of a 15-year IPL stint. He has earlier heaped praise on Chennai Super Kings' management for the environment they provided, contrary to the last two years at Dinesh Karthik-led Knight Riders side.- EndsMust Watch

"R Ashwin Has To Be Released": CSK Told By Former Star Amid Trade Rumours
Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have given fans many topics to debate about as the preparations for the 2025 season starts. CSK have been strongly linked with Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson, with a trade reportedly being contemplated. The exit of Ravichandran Ashwin has also been a hot topic, with the veteran off-spinner himself admitting that he has indeed sought clarity on his future from the franchise. While there's no denying the stature Ashwin holds in Indian cricket, former CSK batter Subramaniam Badrinath feels the off-spinner needs to be released. Ashwin was bought by CSK for a whopping price of INR 9.75 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Though Badrinath didn't say that the player doesn't add value to the CSK squad, he feels he isn't worth that sort of money. "I feel Ashwin adds value to CSK, but not at Rs 10 crore (Rs 9.75 crore). In the IPL, you need to see the price point and the player. He is definitely not at his peak. That is why I have been maintaining from the start that Ashwin has to be released," Badrinath stated. Badrinath also touched upon the topic of MS Dhoni 's future. With Sanju Samson strongly linked to the squad, Badrinath feels Dhoni could decide to end his IPL career as a player before the next season of the T20 league starts. "We don't know if MS Dhoni is going to continue playing or not. That decision has not yet been made. He might play a few matches, or he could play a few matches at Chepauk. There might be a brand value attached. He could attract a few brands. He might announce till the IPL season starts. The presence of Sanju Samson could create confusion, which is what I feel," the two-time IPL winner explained. Ashwin, at present, is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the IPL with 201 dismissals to his name in 239 matches at an average of 30.94. The off-spinner has been a part of many IPL franchises over the course of his career, like Rising Pune Supergiant, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals.
