Report: Deal being finalized to return Damian Lillard to Trail Blazers
Per ESPN, Lillard now will receive a salary of $70 million between his existing deal with the Milwaukee Bucks and his new contract with the Trail Blazers. He also will have a player-option in 2027 and a no-trade clause in a deal that returns Lillard to the franchise with which he spent his first 11 NBA seasons.
Lillard, who turned 35 on Tuesday, saw his season come to an abrupt end on April 27 after an excruciating torn left Achilles tendon knocked him out of the rest of the playoffs.
He is expected to miss the 2025-26 season.
Lillard was hurt in the first quarter of the Bucks' 129-103 loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference first-round series in just his third game back after dealing with a blood clot in his right calf. He missed the final 14 games of the regular season and the first contest of the playoff series against the Pacers.
Lillard requested a trade out of Portland in the summer of 20xx and the team obliged. The Trail Blazers were entering a transition into a rebuild and Lillard wanted to go to a team in which he could compete for a championship.
Lillard averaged 24.9 points, 7.1 assists and 4.7 rebounds in 58 regular-season games during his second season with the Bucks. He was waived by Milwaukee on July 7.
Lillard owns career averages of 25.1 points, 6.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 900 regular-season contests. His 2,804 3-pointers rank fourth in NBA history and his 22,598 points rank eighth among active players. --Field Level Media/ Reuters

Just weeks ago, Dylan Harper joined Jalen Green and Jordan Clarkson in that exclusive club — all of them boasting the accomplishment of being drafted in the NBA. Harper was picked second overall in this year's draft, just like Green who was also selected second in 2021. Clarkson, meanwhile, was the 46th overall pick in 2014. Compared to Clarkson and Green, however, Dylan hasn't quite established his connection with the Philippines yet as he has not yet visited the country. Clarkson has played for Gilas Pilipinas as a naturalized player in the 2018 Asian Games and the 2023 FIBA World Cup, while Green has been to the Philippines twice to participate in the NBTC tournament, even before getting drafted. He also visited in 2022 for a global sporting brand. This doesn't mean, though, that the Rutgers standout is not in touch with his Filipino side. According to Dylan's mom Maria, the 19-year old player grew up in a Filipino household and is very much familiar with its customs and traditions. After all, Maria, who is a Filipino, has been a huge part of her kids' journey inside and outside of basketball. 'We are very in touch with our Filipino side. My mom, my dad, and my three sisters have been a really big part of my children's lives. We have Filipino traditions,' Maria shared after attending Dylan's first game in the NBA Summer League. Maria, who hails from Bataan, is the daughter of Manuel and Lillia Pizarro. Their family moved to the United States when she was just seven years old. 'I do have very vivid memories of holidays such as Christmas, which was my favorite holiday. Doing Christmas in the Philippines is nothing like it. It's like a whole month festivity. We try to make Christmas in our house as big as possible. With all of the regalos, all of the food and such,' she shared. While Maria's memories of Christmas in the Philippines suggests her strong affinity on the Filipino side, the deep bond of her family also reflects Filipino values. In fact, even Dylan's basketball journey has been influenced by his love for family. 'We kinda switched to the traditional Filipino stuff. Going to church for Sunday, going to lola for Sunday dinner, also the things that we want to do for our kids. We made a really big imprint on all three of my children, Ronald, Dylan, and Mia,' she said. 'We're so close. Dylan also went to school at Rutgers, where Ronald also went. When he chose it, it was really about the people and really reppin' for the state of New Jersey and showing people you could do it at home, and still be successful. Anytime either boys have some time off, they always come home to visit mom and Mia and it's our favorite thing to do.' That bond which is present in most Filipino families is also evident as the Harpers cheered for Dylan in the NBA Summer League. 'We're all out here in Las Vegas to support Dylan. And we also promised each other for our favorite holiday, Christmas, that whoever can't come home, we were going to bring the whole band wherever they were,' Maria continued. Having Filipino heritage is often enough for a player to get a passionate following from fans in the Philippines, but knowing that one is immersed in the culture — without even setting foot in the country — could take that support to another level. And a visit could seal just that. 'I know that basketball is a big sport in the Philippines. And to all the Filipino basketball fans, of the NBA here in the States and of the Harper boys, we're looking forward to visiting you guys next summer,' Maria revealed. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

Biles also received the award for Best Championship Performance for her gold medal-winning showing in the Olympic gymnastics all-around event. NBA Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander beat out Shohei Ohtani, Josh Allen and Saquon Barkley for Best Male Athlete. But Barkley ended the night with three trophies, including the one for Best NFL Player. His Philadelphia Eagles were honored with the Best Team award, and the running back also won Best Play for his backwards hurdle of a Jacksonville Jaguars defender last fall. Comedian Shane Gillis hosted the program and delivered an uneven monologue that left him wishing he could take back certain jokes. Cracks at President Donald Trump, Aaron Rodgers and Bill Belichick's girlfriend got laughs, but he was caught mispronouncing Diana Taurasi's name and got an uncomfortable reaction for a line about Caitlin Clark's treatment in the WNBA. "When Caitlin Clark retires from the WNBA, she's going to work at a Waffle House so she can continue doing what she loves most: fist-fighting Black women," Gillis joked. At the end of his monologue, Gillis said, "Well, I see a lot of you don't like me and that's OK. That's it for me. That went about as well as we all thought it was going to go." Clark later received the Best WNBA Player award following her Rookie of the Year campaign in 2024. It was Clark's third straight year with at least one ESPY, following back-to-back years winning in the Best College Athlete, Women's Sports category. Team USA rugby star Ilona Maher won Best Breakthrough Athlete, a bit of an upset in a category that included No. 1 NBA draft pick Cooper Flagg and Pittsburgh Pirates phenom Paul Skenes. Maher helped the U.S. take home bronze in rugby sevens at the Paris Games. Her personality and messages about body positivity helped vault her into the national consciousness, and she appeared on "Dancing with the Stars," finishing runner-up. She became the first rugby player to win an ESPY. And Biles' teammate, Suni Lee, won Best Comeback Athlete for overcoming two rare kidney diseases and winning three medals in Paris. NBA legend Oscar Robertson was recognized with the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage for his work as the NBA Players Association president to establish free agency in the 1970s. Penn State volleyball coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley, a cancer survivor, received the Jimmy V Award in memory of the late basketball coach Jim Valvano.
