'Kashmir is safe and stunning': Vietnamese tourists defy terror scare

Despite the closure of several tourist spots after the Pahalgam terror attack , a few tourists are still making their way to Pahalgam and nearby areas.On Thursday, a group of tourists from Vietnam arrived in Pahalgam and said that Kashmir was "paradise", further stating that they felt very good and safe while visiting Kashmir. However, they added that it would have been more enjoyable if some of the famous tourist spots had been open.Speaking to ANI, a first time visitor expressed her sheer delight at her experience in the valley and said "This is the first time I came to Kashmir, and I had a wonderful amazing experience here, I've seen a lot of beautiful nature and how friendly people treat us very well, I feel a great time here. We have also bought a lot of stuff like Kashmiri shawls..."When asked about the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the visitor said "I also heard that from the internet and some friends, somebody can be scared from that information, but I think because I also want to come here and recover Kashmir by myself so that is why that information did not make me feel scared, because when I came here a lot of people already welcomed us, they protected us very well and treated us very well, so that's why I feel Kashmir is very safe, beautiful exactly like what they say "A haven on earth."Samita, another member of the group, echoed the sentiment, "Yes, our group is from Vietnam. In Kashmi,r it feels like Paradise on earth, it's very different from Vietnam, with white mountains, and the climate is very cool here. "The group also made it a point to support local artisans by purchasing traditional handicrafts and shawls."We have got some gifts for our friends and family in Vietnam because Kashmir is very famous for the local handicrafts and shawls. We appreciate their skills and we want to support the artisans here because after the terrorist attack, fewer tourists come here, Samita added.The terror attack on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam targeted tourists, killing 26 people.

Post Pahalgam attack, anti-terror squad deployed for 1st time at Valley of Flowers
1 2 3 4 Dehradun: Uttarakhand Police has deployed a six-member anti-terror squad (ATS) team at Ghangaria, near the Valley of Flowers, to monitor tourist movement towards the alpine valley as well as popular Sikh pilgrimage spot, Hemkund Sahib, situated nearby, marking the first time such a deployment has taken place in this remote region. The decision is being seen as linked to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that left 25 tourists and a local dead. Chamoli SP Sarvesh Panwar, told TOI, "The ATS team has been stationed at Ghangaria, the key point for people going to both Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. The ATS team has been stationed there since May 24, a day before the Hemkund Sahib yatra began, and will work alongside the State Disaster Response Force to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the pilgrimage and tourist traffic." According to sources, ATS deployment is part of a wider security strategy across Uttarakhand, which shares its border with China, in response to the Pahalgam incident in Jammu & Kashmir. While officials have not cited any direct threat or intelligence input linked to Chamoli district (where the Valley of Flowers lies, and which shares borders with China), police have increased surveillance across major tourist and religious sites in the Himalayan state as a precaution. Also, police have been monitoring social media and providing support to around 1,700 Kashmiri students in Uttarakhand to maintain public order and prevent misinformation. The Valley of Flowers National Park, a Unesco World Heritage site, reopened to tourists on June 1. Located over 9,000 ft above sea level in Chamoli, the park remains open from June to Oct and is known for its alpine flora. On opening day, 83 visitors visited the valley. Declared a national park in 1982, it is home to over 600 plant species, including Brahma Kamal, the state flower of Uttarakhand, along with Aster, Delphinium, Himalayan Blue Poppy, Ranunculus and Potentilla. Hemkund Sahib, the revered Sikh shrine situated nearby, opened to devotees on May 25 and draws thousands of pilgrims every year.

"Hope Prayers For Peace Will Be Answered": Farooq Abdullah Visits Vaishno Devi
Jammu/Srinagar: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday returned to Srinagar by the recently launched Vande Bharat Express after an overnight stay at the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra. "Had a great darshan and I am hopeful that all our prayers for peace, progress and brotherhood at the shrine will be answered so that we can move forward and our country also marches ahead and we become part of its development trajectory," the former chief minister told reporters on his return. The 87-year-old Abdullah took his maiden ride in the Vande Bharat Express, which connects Kashmir to the rest of the country, to reach Katra on Tuesday. He stayed at the sanctum sanctorum overnight and took part in special prayers at the shrine. He was accompanied by his grandsons Zamir and Zahid, Jammu and Kashmir minister Satish Sharma, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and several NC legislators, including chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq. Asked about his overnight stay at the shrine, Abdullah said, "I felt very happy." "I came here by train and this service is a new beginning for us. This will not only benefit the pilgrims coming to visit Mata but also prove beneficial for the pilgrims intending to visit the Amarnath cave shrine and they will also come in large numbers. This will benefit tourism in J&K," he added. Mr Abdullah said this train is a blessing for Jammu and Kashmir which will boost trade and tourism. "The journey was very good. You can see that tourists are also coming. This train is a blessing. It will increase tourism and trade. Our fruits can go outside easily and our people can now travel to any part of India comfortably. "We had darshan thrice after reaching this holy town (Katra), which is a great blessing for us... Abdullah walked two to three kilometres to reach the court and we prayed for J&K to get back its lost glory. J&K is India's crown and we want to reach that height again," he said. The minister said they prayed for India's progress at the global level. Mr Sharma described the trip as "historic" and said they will remember it for eternity. He said they also prayed for the victims of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and shelling by Pakistan. "They (Pakistanis) will never succeed in their nefarious designs. Terrorism is an industry but our brave forces gave them a befitting reply. They will meet the same fate in future if they try to do any mischief," the minister said. NC provincial president Rattan Lal Gupta said Abdullah's visit has sent a positive message across the country and "we are hopeful that the tourism industry, which has suffered a major setback in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, will be back on track soon". "Abdullah's overnight stay at the shrine saw an immediate increase in the footfall of pilgrims. We are hopeful that this momentum will further increase in the coming days," he said. Gupta said the team attended all the special prayers and all its members, except Abdullah, also visited Bhairon Ghati to offer prayers.
