To make sense of the gin world—and to help you avoid putting the wrong gin in the wrong cocktail—here's a practical guide to the different types of gin and where they shine.
London Dry isn't necessarily made in London (though it can be). The term refers to a production style that results in a crisp, juniper-forward gin with no added sweeteners. This is the most common style of gin and the one you'll find in classics like Tanqueray, Beefeater, and Bombay Sapphire.
Best for:
London Dry is a workhorse. If you're building a home bar and can only have one gin, this is the one to start with.
Plymouth Gin is actually a protected designation, meaning it can only be made in Plymouth, England. It's similar to London Dry but has a softer, earthier profile with less of a juniper punch. That makes it a great option for people who like gin but don't necessarily want it to dominate their drink.
Best for:
Think of Old Tom as the missing link between London Dry and Genever (which we'll get to in a second). It's slightly sweeter than London Dry, with a richer texture. If you ever find a gin cocktail from the 19th century that calls for 'gin,' chances are it was referring to Old Tom.
Best for:
Before gin was gin, it was Genever. This Dutch spirit is maltier and has a more whiskey-like character due to its grain-forward base. While it still has juniper, it's not as dominant as in other styles.

If you love whiskey but are curious about gin, Genever is the perfect gateway bottle.
Sometimes called 'contemporary gin' or 'modern gin,' this is a broad category for gins that step away from the traditional juniper-heavy profile. Brands like Hendrick's (with its cucumber and rose) or The Botanist (with its 22 botanicals) fall into this category.

New Western gins are fun because they push the boundaries. They can be citrus-forward, floral, or even spice-heavy, making them great for experimentation.

The King and Queen were joined by Camilla's old school friend Lady Cavendish and her husband Lord Cavendish in their coach during the traditional carriage procession along the course. Among the guests travelling in the carriages were the former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad, the Queen's Companion the Marchioness of Lansdowne and musical maestro Lord Lloyd-Webber. Princess Eugenie, her husband Jack Brooksbank and mother Sarah, Duchess of York were spotted in the parade ring alongside former defence secretary Ben Wallace and Zara Tindall when the royal procession arrived in the exclusive area. The late Queen was a passionate owner and breeder of thoroughbreds and had more than 20 Royal Ascot winners during her 70-year reign. Charles and Camilla have taken on her stable of horses and enjoyed their first Royal Ascot winner in 2023 when their horse Desert Hero triumphed in the King George V Stakes.

A Disappointing Update On The ‘Bridgerton' Season 4 Release Date

Bridgerton season 4 We know that Bridgerton season 4 will release in 2026, allegedly. But we now have an update that reinforces just how long the wait has been and will continue to be. The good news is that Netflix has just shared that season 4 of Bridgerton has wrapped filming as of today. The bad news is how long of a wait there is still to come and how long the gaps between these seasons still are. So, if filming has wrapped now, which we can round up to the beginning of July, we can use past data to figure out when Bridgerton season 4 is actually going to be released. And it's a while yet. Bridgerton season 3 wrapped filming in March 2023 and stayed in post-production until May 24, 14 months later. So, if season 4 wrapped now, 14 months from the beginning of July would be the beginning of September 2026. Given that season 3 of Bridgerton season 3 aired in May 2024, that makes this a gap of two years and five months between seasons. We could scale down a few months maybe if we assume season 3 was interrupted by strikes to some degree, but it's still over two years. Previously, showrunner Jess Brownell has said outright that there is just no way around this: She may have said they're trying to speed things up, but given the data we've seen here, that does not appear to be happening unless they can dramatically increase their production schedule. And the idea that shows have to be filmed and edited and dubbed and written (with source material to reference) is not exactly something that other shows don't also have to deal with. But I suppose that's why 1.5-3 years is the new norm. Bridgerton season 4 There are eight books in the Bridgerton series, and if this large gap remains, it will be the mid-to-late 2030s before the show finishes the source material in full. But given how well it performs, it stands to reason that Netflix has every reason to see it through to the end. Here's the synopsis for season 4 via Netflix: It remains to be seen whether Bridgerton season 4 will be broken up into two parts like season 3. Fans are sick of that, but it's a coinflip whether or not Netflix keeps doing it with its big shows currently. My guess would be yes. See you this fall. Sorry, next fall.
