'I can't think of any grounds that you can just casually saunter up to' - fans react to Merseytravel steps advice
Taking to social media, they posted: 'Heading to the Everton v AS Roma double-header this weekend? Everton Stadium is just 30 mins walk from Moorfields station – a great opportunity to get your steps in for the day and soak up the atmosphere for the big game!'
This naturally prompted a backlash from Blues fans who mocked the post, even asking if the Metro Mayor and Liverpool fan Steve Rotheram would be taking part in the walk. To find out if it was doable, reporter and Evertonian David Humphreys took up the challenge from the business district in the city centre to Bramley-Moore Dock.
Now fans have had their say on what could lay in store for them later this season. After David completed the walk in just under 25 minutes, one commenter said: 'Not too bad, have a few in Moorfields then walk to the Bramley and have a few in there.'
Another person added: 'All of this should have been thought about before permission was given for building work to start.' The timing around supporters making their way to and from the stadium was highlighted by one contributor who said: 'It's when the game finishes you will have problems, everyone leaving the stadium all together.'
The ECHO understands Merseytravel's original post was devised as a friendly piece of advice for fans making their way to the ground from across the Liverpool City Region and sign posting the ways to get to and from Hill Dickinson Stadium this weekend. This covers a range of travel options, including buses, trains, Mersey Ferries, cycling and walking, to help supporters with their travel planning.
One commenter said some had overreacted, writing: 'The roads to the north, south and east are big wide roads and not the narrow terraces surrounding Goodison and Anfield. It's not as big an issue as it's made out to be.
'Possible a few minor issues early doors as people find their preferred route, parking space, mode of transport etc.. but in the long term it will be fine.' This was backed up by another contributor who said: 'I can't think of any grounds that you can just casually saunter up to.
'They all require a significant walk and/or a struggle and delay getting a bus or train. Comments about cold weather, wind and rain are really feeble – normal fans take it all in their stride.'
Mobility was raised by some users however. One said: 'It's ok if you are reasonably healthy and mobile, but even then if it's raining heavily, cold and windy, and it's pretty exposed to the elements down there, it's not going to be a good experience especially if Everton lose and you've got to walk back.'
Another added: 'It is a decent walk but manageable if you are fit and able.
'There needs to be provision for the elderly and less able though.'

Dovbyk wanted by Leeds United and West Ham, as Roma look to Krstovic
Leeds United and West Ham United are reportedly targeting Artem Dovbyk, and if he is sold, Roma will reinvest in Lecce striker Nikola Krstovic. Dovbyk was a big investment from FC Girona last summer for €38.5m, but has struggled to replicate his form in LaLiga to Serie A football. The situation seems to have gone from bad to worse under new coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who has very different requirements for his centre-forward. Arthur Smith rewards young Steelers playmaker for hard work behind the scenes
The Pittsburgh Steelers officially began their 2025 season on Saturday with a 31-25 preseason victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. While most of the starters and veterans sat out this game, it was the first chance for some of the younger players who have flashed throughout training camp to showcase what they can do in a game setting. But for one of the Steelers' young playmakers, it wasn't just about showing what he could do; it was the culmination of months of work that went on when nobody was watching. Second-year wide receiver Roman Wilson tallied 2 catches for 24 yards on Saturday in limited playing time. It was some of the first action we have seen Wilson get in a game setting in the NFL. Wilson has been a standout throughout camp and someone who has a blossoming connection with Aaron Rodgers. Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith was asked on Monday if getting Wilson involved early in Saturday's contest was intentional, and he did not hold back in praising the work that the young receiver has put in throughout the offseason. The entire press conference is available on the Post-Gazette Sports YouTube channel. 'I mean, obviously, nobody wants to go through that and not play your rookie year, but he handled it. You know, some guys, they just kind of go away and Roman behind the scenes has done a lot of work. It's, you know, pretty sure the ball was going to go there, but you never know the coverage was different when we were going to Scotty and back, but that was intentional to get him going early and he deserves that and he's rewarded. Uh, seen a lot of progress, so hopefully he continues.' When Wilson was drafted 84th overall in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, he was expected to be an immediate contributor to an offense that needed help in the wide receiver room. However, Wilson's rookie season never truly got off the ground. Wilson suffered a high-ankle sprain that caused him to miss the majority of training camp last season. After being a healthy scratch for the first month of the season, Wilson appeared in just one game for the Steelers before suffering a hamstring injury that landed him on season-ending injured reserve. The work throughout the offseason and strong play in training camp gave Wilson the opportunity for a fresh start entering year two. With DK Metcalf and Calvin Austin III sitting out of the team's first preseason game, Wilson used this opportunity to gain back the trust of his coaches, teammates, and fans. As long as he can stay healthy, Wilson has the golden opportunity to work himself into extended playing time with a quarterback whom he continues to earn the trust of.

Fabrizio Romano predicts Liverpool's signing: Marc Guehi vs Giovanni Leoni
Fabrizio Romano predicts Liverpool will take a massive risk with an upcoming transfer. The Reds are in the market for a centre-back. Liverpool remain in the transfer market despite already striking several high-profile deals. What a difference a year makes? 2024 saw barely anything happen, of course, but things have turned around in 2025. Liverpool have broken their transfer record, then signed the most expensive full-backs in their history before dropping €80m on Hugo Ekitiké. Shop the LFC Store LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! LFC x adidas Shop the goalkeeper range today LFC x adidas Shop the new adidas range today! Problems remain, however. One of them is at centre-back where Liverpool are undeniably light in numbers. Jarell Quansah joined Bayer Leverkusen this summer without a replacement, while Joe Gomez is already battling another injury. It's incredibly reminiscent of 2020 when disaster followed after Liverpool went into the campaign with only three senior options. The Reds need to sign someone, then, and they're looking at two options. Marc Guehi and Giovanni Leoni are both on the shortlist and could join before the transfer window shuts. And Fabrizio Romano has predicted who it will be. Fabrizio Romano predicts Marc Guehi vs Giovanni Leoni "If you want my prediction I say Giovanni Leoni," Romano told DAZN. "It's a risk, yeah? It's a risk. "If you ask many people they'll say Marc Guehi but I say Leoni because I think Liverpool see a real big talent in this boy. I think it's 51/49 percent but I'll go with Leoni." Romano isn't exactly sticking his neck out with that 51/49 line but it's interesting that he views Leoni as more likely. Perhaps part of that is potential value for money. Guehi, after all, is free next summer and paying now is essentially paying for one year. Leoni is very much not out of contract next summer and Parma want an enormous fee for him.
