Congress regime to hold bash in Hospete to mark 2-year completion on May 20

Time of India18-05-2025

The
Congress regime
has planned a big bash at Hospete in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region on Tuesday to mark completion of two years, which close followers of the chief minister called as
Siddaramaiah fest
2.O.
AICC President Mallikarjuna Kharge and
Rahul Gandhi
are expected to take part in the event where the government plans to give
land ownership title-deeds
to one lakh beneficiaries and promote Karnataka's model of governance as the best welfare-focused one.
There are indications that Siddaramaiah would be the centre of attraction at the bash that is being overseen by his followers from the minorities, backward classes and Dalit (Ahinda) bloc. Davanagere in central Karnataka hosted the first edition of Siddaramaiah fest (Siddaramotsava) in August 2022 when he completed 75 years which set the stage for the party's return to power in the assembly polls in May 2023.

The CM visited the venue on Friday and assessed the arrangements. He has said he expected three lakh people to participate. The party has made elaborate arrangements for parking of vehicles and with 500 food counters.
Hospete in Vijayanagar district is part of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region where the Congress has a formidable presence and where the party won all five seats in the Lok Sabha elections, last year. The party hopes to ride on the success of the event for the forthcoming
panchayat elections
.
Live Events
The mega show comes amid speculations that Siddaramaiah may step aside early next year after probably breaking the late D Devaraj Urs's number of days as chief minister. The CM will turn 80 in two years.
While Deputy CM DK Shivakumar is the front runner, patiently waiting to succeed Siddaramaiah, there are other senior leaders out to play spoilsport. A section of CM's loyalist cabinet colleagues is lobbying hard to either keep Siddaramaiah for a full five-year term or get one of his own camp followers as his successor. Some of them are also trying to emerge as deputy CMs in the event Siddaramaiah makes way for a new leader by often saying that they are also in the CM's race.

Channi slams Bhagwant Mann, Kejriwal as ‘anti-Dalit'

Ludhiana: Former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi claimed that both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Arvind Kejriwal were anti-Dalit and poor people. Referring to the party not appointing a Dalit deputy chief minister, as promised before the 2022 assembly elections, Channi claimed that CM Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal did not participate in the programmes organised in the memory of Dalit gurus. Channi said that Kejriwal projected himself as a common man by wearing slippers and travelling in auto-rickshaws, but soon after coming to power, he started travelling in helicopters and staying in luxury hotels. On Wednesday, Channi said, a government programme was organised in Jalandhar on the occasion of Kabir Jayanti and both Mann and Kejriwal were supposed to attend it. However, he claimed that despite being in Jalandhar, both returned without attending the event. He added that Kejriwal and Mann spent time in a friend's factory after inaugurating a park located about three kilometres from the Kabir Jayanti programme venue. He also said that the Kabir Bhawan was constructed during the Congress government at a cost of Rs 12 crore. Channi claimed that the AAP government did not pay attention to cleaning of the sarovar at the Bhagwan Valmiki Teerth in Amritsar, which, had been made using the machinery procured by the Congress government at expense of crores. The former CM said that the AAP government did not implement the project of building a research centre on the life of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar for Rs 100 crore at the Technical University in Kapurthala. He claimed that during his tenure as CM, he presented a cheque of Rs 25 crore to the Dera Sachkhand Ballan management to build a study centre devoted to Guru Ravidas's teachings at Dera Ballan, the holy place of Guru Ravidas. Channi alleged that the cheque was taken back by Kejriwal. On the eve of Lok Sabha elections, Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann reached the dera to present the same cheque but the amount of Rs 25 crore has not been released to the dera so far, he claimed. "I genuinely want to ask CM Mann and Kejriwal what their issues are with poor and Dalit people," Channi asked. He said that before the assembly elections, votes were collected by filling forms promising to give Rs 1,000 per month to women but after 40 months, women had not received anything. Pb's devp caused by failure to implement central schemes: Hardeep Puri

Ludhiana: Union minister of petroleum and natural gas, Hardeep Puri , on Thursday, said that Punjab's development had been hindered by the state government's alleged failure to implement people-centric schemes of the central government. Puri, who was in Ludhiana to campaign for party candidate Jiwan Gupta, said that this prevented Punjab residents from receiving benefits available to citizens in other states across the country. Addressing a press conference, Puri emphasised that while India made significant strides in development, including advancements in the space sector, Punjab did not fully benefit from central welfare programmes. He attributed this to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's non-implementation of these initiatives, citing the Ayushman Bharat Healthcare programme as a regrettable example. "All central schemes are available throughout the country but if these schemes aren't implemented in states like Punjab, it's a matter of deep regret," Puri said. Highlighting the achievements of the Union government, the minister said that in 2014, when Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, India's economy was valued at 2 trillion dollars and ranked 10th globally. Since then, India has surpassed the UK to become the fifth largest economy and recently overtook Japan to claim the fourth position, he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo According to World Bank assessments, Puri projected that India would surpass Germany within the next year. He also underscored India's robust economic growth rate of 6.5%, which is significantly higher than the approximately 2% growth rates of the UK, Japan, and Germany. This rapid growth, he suggested, positions India to become the world's third-largest economy by 2026, with its current economy standing at 4.3 trillion dollars. Puri also detailed expansion of welfare programmes under the current administration. He noted that the number of LPG cylinder connections in the country had increased from 14 crore in 2014 to over 33 crore today. He specifically mentioned the 2016 launch of the Ujjwala Yojana, which provides LPG cylinders at subsidised prices, primarily benefiting rural areas. Additionally, Puri stated that 4 crore people received houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with plans to construct 3 crore more homes across India in the coming years. The minister pointed out that in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, 33% of seats would be reserved for women, a move he described as fostering "women-led development." He also highlighted the significant growth in India's civil aviation sector, with the number of airports increasing from 74 before 2014 to over 150 now. Expressing concern about development in Punjab, Puri said that despite chief minister Bhagwant Mann's election promise to eliminate drugs, little progress was observed. He also criticised the prevailing law and order situation in the state. Puri urged that the BJP's 11-year report card on national achievements be widely disseminated in Punjab, asserting that it would "enthral" people across all sections. He concluded by stating that "governance didn't mean fake promises, but promises shown fulfilled on the ground," citing the AAP's unfulfilled promise of Rs 1,000 per month to women as an example.
