Tommy Fleetwood has touching moment with wife after crushing $3.6 million Travelers Championship finish
While Bradley celebrated a home-area win at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut with 'U-S-A' chants serenading the Ryder Cup captain, Tommy Fleetwood left the 18th green after another heartbreaking near-miss at a PGA Tour event.

Fleetwood was seen embracing his wife, Clare, after he bogeyed 18 to allow Bradley to steal the win with a clutch birdie putt.

Fleetwood, 34, now has 42 career top-10s without a victory on the PGA Tour as he continues to come up short in the biggest moments.
'I'm upset now. I'm angry. When it calms down, I'll look at things I did well, look at the things I can learn from …,' the Englishman told reporters afterward. 'I hadn't been in this position all year, so it's been a while, felt like I did a lot of good things, but there are things I can definitely do better. I have to do better.'
Fleetwood had a three-stroke lead heading into Sunday, but bogeyed three of the first four holes to open the door for Bradley and Russell Henley.
Fleetwood still held a one-shot lead at TPC River Highlands heading into the final hole and drilled his driver down the middle of the fairway.

After some club choice indecision, Fleetwood left his approach just short of the green.
Bradley then hit a brilliant approach five feet short of the hole, and Henley holed out for birdie to move one shot off the lead.

Fleetwood left his first putt just shy of Bradley's mark, then missed his putt on the right side.
Bradley, a Vermont native and St. John's grad, dramatically drilled his putt for the win.
It was the final signature event of the season, and Bradley earned $3.6 million with the win. Fleetwood and Henley got $1.76 million each for their second-place tie.
'The stupid thing to do would be to make this a hindrance to what you do going forward,' Fleetwood said. 'I obviously played great, I put myself in a great position, I was leading the tournament for 71 holes. I just want to make sure I can put myself in this position as soon as possible again and try and correct what I did this time… There's just no point in making it a negative for the future.'

Bradley's win adds more intrigue to his Ryder Cup situation, with calls growing for him to select himself as a member of the 12-player American squad for the September showdown with Europe at Bethpage Black.

He is currently in ninth place in the standings, with six players automatically qualifying for the team and the other six being the captain's choices.
'This changes the story a little bit,' Bradley, 39, said. 'I never would have thought about playing if I hadn't won. This definitely opens the door to play. I don't know if I'm going to do it or not, but I certainly have to take a pretty hard look at what's best for the team.'

After a first-round loss, the Northwest all-stars have been tasked with slugging their way through the losers' bracket, and play their next game today on ESPN at 4 p.m. against the Metro Region team from Connecticut. Washington v. Connecticut on ESPN Washington fired from all cylinders in the Northwest regional tournament, scoring 43 runs in their three games ahead of the LLWS. Washington's run production has cooled off since stepping on the historic Howard J. Lamade field in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, having scored only six runs in their first two games. The Fairfield, Connecticut All-Stars representing the Metro Region have put on a masterclass pitching performance in the LLWS. The Metro team held Southwest (Texas) scoreless in their first game of the tournament, notching a 1-0 victory on Wednesday. Pitcher Luca Pellegrini took a perfect game into the fourth inning, retiring the first nine batters he faced, and stacked up 11 strikeouts. Washington will have a tough test if Pellegrini is back on the mound today as both teams face off in a win-or-go-home matchup. If Washington grabs a win today, the Bonney Lake/Sumner team will play on Wednesday in the fourth round of the LLWS. Washington currently needs four consecutive wins to reach the LLWS championship game and battle the winner of the International bracket. WA aims to keep its Little League World Series dreams alive The boys from Bonney Lake lost in the opening round of the LLWS, falling 5-3 to the Mountain Region (Las Vegas). The Northwest all-stars turned things around in their second game of the double elimination tournament, handing the New England Region (Massachusetts) a 3-2 nail-biting loss. Bonney Lake opened up the scoring early with a single from Colton Audette that scored Mason Woods from second base in the bottom of the first. Massachusetts clawed back in the second with two runs to take the lead. Washington took the lead right back with a Cole Sehlin single to tie the game in the second that scored Asher Monson, and Atley Eager scored on a wild pitch to make the score 3-2. The early scoring came to a standstill after the second inning, with Washington riding out their one-run lead all the way to victory over Massachusetts. Stay up to date on the action here. Cavs forward Larry Nance Jr. will debut a digital show on the ties between the NBA and soccer
CLEVELAND (AP) — Larry Nance Jr. is going to shed some light on why so many NBA players have become big fans of international soccer. The Cleveland Cavaliers forward has teamed up with the Men in Blazers Digital Network to launch a digital show called 'Switch the Play,' a weekly program that will feature those NBA players who are soccer aficionados and discuss happenings in the game. The first episode, featuring Alex Caruso of the NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder, debuts Thursday. 'I entered the NBA in 2015, and I was probably one of only a couple of guys in the league that could tell you who won the Premier League the previous season,' Nance said. 'Now, soccer is a constant conversation starter in the locker room. Soccer's popularity has grown so much over the past 10 years, as has the international influence on the NBA creating more and more players that follow the game consistently." The ties between soccer and the NBA have never seemed to run so deep. Many of basketball's top stars — Victor Wembanyama, Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, Luka Doncic, James Harden, Joel Embiid and more — make no secret of their fascination with soccer. Wembanyama was on the field for a Paris Saint Germain-Manchester City game in Paris last winter when he and the San Antonio Spurs were there for a pair of games against the Indiana Pacers. The Spurs center also went viral this summer for taking part in pickup soccer games around the world. The fandom goes both ways: Soccer icon Lionel Messi and other Inter Miami stars were at a Miami Heat game in 2024, Real Madrid stars Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe are regulars at NBA games and Butler said last season he's lost count of how many jerseys he's exchanged with soccer standouts at NBA games. The NBA even modeled its NBA Cup in-season tournament in part around what has worked in European soccer regarding in-season trophy play. 'This show will give stars from around the league the opportunity to let fans hear them talk about their soccer fandom, parallels in the two games, and how we see it as professional athletes,' Nance said. Nance played soccer until he was 16 and is now part owner of Premier League club Leeds United — becoming an investor in 2023 along with Indiana guard T.J. McConnell. After 453 days, Alex Lange returns to seal Tigers' win originally appeared on The Sporting News Alex Lange was more nervous about last night than his MLB debut. When the Detroit Tigers' reliever entered in the ninth inning, it had been 453 days since his last Major League game and 14 months since he underwent right lat surgery in June 2024. But Lange did his job, pitching a scoreless ninth to seal Detroit's dominant 10-0 win over the Houston Astros at Comerica Park on Monday night. Breaking down Lange's appearance Lange had anything but a clean inning vs. Houston. His first pitch—a 95.8 mph sinker—was drilled to left field by Ramon Urias for a single. His first out came on a fly ball to left, but Lange then issued a walk and a single to load the bases. However, he struck out Victor Caratini with a knuckle curve below the zone and used the same pitch to induce another fly out that sealed Detroit's victory. 'I'm getting goosebumps now reliving it,' Lange said after the game, per Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. 'All the fans down in the bullpen all day saying welcome back is pretty special, and running back in one more time was a lot of fun.' Lange's road to recovery wasn't easy, but he just kept 'grinding' until he was ready to return. That included a rehab assignment that spanned 17 games for Double-A West Michigan (2 G) and Triple-A Toledo (15). The Tigers finally activated him yesterday on Aug. 18. 'You look up 14 months later, you're back with the boys, and you're back with the team that you love and care so much about,' Lange, who's spent his entire 5-year career with Detroit, said. 'It's pretty special. I got a lot of hugs today from a lot of guys. That meant the world to me. I'll never forget that.' The Tigers (74-53) continue their series vs. the Astros (69-56) at Comerica Park tonight at 6:40 p.m. ET.
