'We stand with the League of Ireland and our supporters in taking a zero-tolerance approach to tackling racism within the game.'
The club encouraged anyone who witnesses any such alleged behaviour to report it 'in confidence' by calling 042 9335894 or via email to office@dundalkfc.com
In a statement to The Journal, a Sligo Rovers spokesperson said: 'As a community club of mixed races, ethnicities and cultures we will challenge and call out racism of any kind.'
The spokesperson added that the club will not comment further at this stage and intends to 'leave this to the authorities to handle'.
The spokesperson also remarked that this alleged incident 'is not a reflection on the overwhelming majority of Dundalk fans' and described it as an 'isolated incident from a small minority'.
'Racism and hate has no part to play in football,' added the Sligo Rovers spokesperson.
The FAI has been approached for comment.
Meanwhile, Dundalk were defeated 2-0 by Sligo Rovers in last night's second round FAI Cup fixture, the second year in a row the Louth club has exited the competition in the second round.

Sean Stewart becomes latest player to join resurgent Sligo Rovers

Sligo Rovers have continued their recruitment drive in the July window with the signing of defender Sean Stewart from Cliftonville on an 18-month deal. The left-sided Northern Ireland underage international arrives at the Showgrounds for an undisclosed fee and is manager John Russell's fifth signing of the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old was with Norwich City before moving to Belfast side Cliftonville. He won an Irish Cup in 2024. Stewart featured in Rovers' recent friendly with Mansfield Town and has represented Northern Ireland at various levels all the way to the Under-21s. "John Russell had been chasing me for a while and once I knew the clubs were happy to come to a deal and I spoke to him, I wanted to come here straight away," Stewart said. "He is hugely ambitious for the club's future and I want to be part of that. "I've always had a big interest in the league here and followed the teams and results. It has grown enormously over the last few years and is further becoming such an attractive league to play in for young players. I couldn't turn down the chance to play here. "It has developed so many players recently and Sligo is one of those clubs that realises the importance of giving younger players an opportunity. You only have to look at the average age of the current squad. The manager puts trust in his players, a young squad and it's paid off the last few weeks when you look at the results we're starting to pick up." "I will have to work so hard to earn a place in the team and that's been obvious to me even before I arrived. We play with aggression and always try to be on the front foot and that's how I want the teams I play in to operate. I cannot wait to get started here." James McManus, Ryan O'Kane, Patrick McClean and Seb Quirk have already joined the Bit O'Red this month. Kevin Zefi also appeared as a trialist in the Mansfield game. Russell lost Reece Hutchinson to Crewe Alexandra in this window and has brought in Stewart as a replacement: "Sean is a hugely promising talent who already has a lot of experience in senior football and has represented Northern Ireland at underage level. "I have signed him as we feel his physical profile and attributes certainly match what we already have here at Rovers. "He is strong defensively and is a player who really likes to get involved in attacking phases of play, which suits our style. I have had plenty of conversations with Sean before I signed him and he's highly motivated to come here. He knows what we want from him and I feel he matches the type of player we need. "We feel he has a really high ceiling and we have done very well to get him here."

Cork City take their time to shake off debutants Leicester Celtic

FAI Cup second round Cork City 3 Leicester Celtic 0 Fairview Rangers 0 Shelbourne 4 Bangor Celtic 0 Cobh Ramblers 2 Salthill Devon 1 St Michael's 0 READ MORE New signing Charlie Lutz netted his first goal to the relief of manager Ger Nash as Cork City eventually shook off Leicester Celtic's challenge to win 3-0 in Saturday's FAI Cup second-round clash at Turners Cross. The Aston Villa academy recruit argued with midfielder Evan McLaughlin over who should take their 69th-minute penalty before dispatching it to the bottom corner. Kitt Nelson, who had been fouled for the spot-kick, added the clincher within two minutes to finish off the Leinster Senior League's fourth-tier side. Standout centre back Kevin Curry was unlucky to end with an own goal in the dying moments. Nash's first win as City manager in front of 893 fans sees them advance to the third round ahead of a crucial relegation dogfight against Sligo Rovers on Friday. Leicester Celtic, first-time FAI Cup participants from Rathfarnham, drew a strong travelling support. They were without long-serving captain Alan O'Shaughnessy, who missed the game due to a clash with his wedding. A few team-mates attended the Friday ceremony before joining the rest of the squad in Cork. Their goalkeeper Charles Delmotte made a series of brilliant saves, beginning with a quick-thinking block on Lutz. The attacker also struck the post as City were frustrated for the remainder of the first half. Freddie Anderson came agonisingly close from a pair of corners, being denied by Delmotte and the crossbar. When Nelson went over the leg of Daniel McCullagh, City had their breakthrough from the spot through Lutz. With that confidence boost, the forward's close control teed up Nelson to blast home a quick-fire second from the edge of the box. Finally, Benny Couto's 88th-minute free-kick was turned in by Curry. Meanwhile, John Martin bagged a hat-trick as Shelbourne saw off Fairview Rangers in Limerick. Joey O'Brien opted for 11 changes ahead of their Champions League clash with Qarabag. They make a quicker job of things than the Leesiders with Martin teed up by James Norris in the fourth minute. A direct ball over the top fed Daniel Kelly for a 2-0 half-time lead. Martin completed his hat-trick with two strikes in the final 20 minutes. Elsewhere, First Division high-fliers Cobh Ramblers saw off Bangor Celtic with second-half goals from Samuel Bellis and Matthew Whelan in Crumlin. Salthill Devon also advanced to the third-round draw with an early goal from Timmy Molloy against Tipperary town side St Michael's for a 1-0 win in Galway.

Early FAI Cup exit as Dundalk FC leave their shooting boots behind

Friday's FAI Cup tie was billed as a good chance to see the potential difference between the top of the First Division and the bottom half of the Premier. On the basis of this game there is very little – apart from in front of goal. While Dundalk may well have won on points had this been a boxing match, not for the first time in recent weeks Ciarán Kilduff's side lacked power in their punches. By contrast, a Sligo Rovers side whose manager John Russell was missing due to illness were able to deliver two killer knockout blows in the space of four second-half minutes from, firstly, James McManus and then Jake Doyle-Hayes. While Bit O Red goalkeeper Sam Sargeant was certainly in the shake-up for the man of the match award, having pulled off a number of fine saves, it will be of concern to the Lilywhites that for the second week running they created a plethora of chances without taking any. Harry Groome's effort just before half-time was as gilt-edged as they come and perhaps had that found the net then a shock might have been on the cards. However, a screamer from on-loan Bohemians midfielder McManus rattled the Lilywhites, with a soft header conceded just three minutes later from Doyle-Hayes effectively ensuring that there would be no early-round exit for Sligo for the fifth year running. Dundalk, to their credit, did their best to avoid a first home FAI Cup defeat in 17 matches stretching back to their quarter-final defeat against Shamrock Rovers in 2014, but the closing 35 minutes or so were almost a reminder of last season's relegation campaign when there was plenty of hustle and bustle without much real belief that something could be rescued from the game. While the Lilywhites weren't looking for silver linings, they can take some heart from the way they conducted themselves either side of the Sligo goals. The men from The Showgrounds came into this game on a real high following a 2-0 victory over Derry City the week before. They named an unchanged side in Oriel Park and, with a bit more of a cutting edge, could have been upset. It would be dangerous to read too much into one 90-minute game, but the fact Dundalk were competitive showed that maybe the gap isn't that big , if they were able to secure promotion. Either way this will surely have whet the appetite to get back to playing against some of the country's bigger clubs. ADVERTISEMENT Learn more The visitors almost got off to a dream start when Will Fitzgerald slipped Jad Hakiki in on the left inside the opening two minutes, but he was denied by Enda Minogue at close range at the expense of a corner. That would prove to be Sligo's only noteworthy attempt of the opening half, with Dundalk slowly growing into it after a nervous opening. Their own first attempt arrived on 16 minutes when Daryl Horgan's corner found Vinnie Leonard, but his looping header was comfortable for Sargeant to deal with. The former Waterford goalkeeper was then called into action again eight minutes later when he was forced to spring to his right to push Groome's long-range attempt away. The former Bray midfielder should have given the home side the lead in first-half stoppage time. Good work on the right by Declan McDaid, Shane Tracey and JR Wilson saw the latter pull back for Groome 10 yards out, but he curled his effort just the wrong side of the post. Sligo then hit the front within six minutes of the restart with a classy strike from McManus, who met a partially cleared corner at the edge of the box with a stunning right-footed effort that flew past Minogue to the top right-hand corner. It was then 2-0 on 54 minutes, with Fitzgerald's cross from the left flicked on by the head of Doyle-Hayes and into the bottom right-hand corner. Dundalk almost responded five minutes later when Shane Tracey's ball in from the right was met first-time by Gbemi Arubi, but his low effort was brilliantly turned around the post by Sargeant low to his left. Andy Paraschiv then let fly from distance on 68 minutes with an effort that dipped just over the bar before fellow substitute Dean Ebbe let the visitors off the hook on 84 when he latched onto a slack back pass to beat Sargeant, but his effort lacked the power to get across the line. Horgan then forced another fine save from Sargeant a minute later as Sligo held out for the win. Dundalk's Cup dreams are over at the first hurdle for the second year running. The main target, though, is promotion to get back to having nights like this more regularly in Oriel. Dundalk: Minogue; Wilson, Leonard, Sean McHale (O'Keeffe 22), Keogh (Spaight 71); Dervin, Tracey (Parashiv 61); McDaid (Kenny 61), Groome, Horgan; Arubi (Ebbe 61). Sligo Rovers: Sargeant; Reynolds, Denham, McClean, Fitzgerald; Doyle-Hayes (Patton 66), McManus; Elding, Hakiki, O'Kane (McDonagh 77); Waweru (Quirk 46). Attendance: 2,083
