Russo will return as Boca Juniors coach, club spokesman confirms
Russo will take the reins for his third stint with the Argentine giants, having previously coached the team in 2007 and 2020-2021, leading them to win four titles, including the Copa Libertadores.
After leaving Boca, the experienced 69-year-old coach spent time at Rosario Central and most recently at San Lorenzo, with whom he suffered elimination from the Argentine league semi-finals on Sunday.
"Miguel and I have come to an agreement. All he has to do now is officially sever his ties with San Lorenzo, which should be easy for him," the spokesman told Reuters, declining to offer further details.
Russo will replace Fernando Gago, who was sacked last month after Boca lost the Argentine Superclasico against arch-rivals River Plate and had a poor run including getting knocked out of the Libertadores in the preliminary round.
Boca start their Club World Cup campaign on June 16 in the United States, where they will compete in Group C against Bayern Munich, Benfica and Auckland City.

In that way, it can be an advantage. But on the flip side, they have had a long season and played a lot of games recently," Frank said. "It's the right time to face PSG. We are ready. I am 100% convinced that it will be very super competitive tomorrow. "But of course, over the whole season they are in a better place to perform better. But in a single game, we will be ready." Though Spurs are without former captain Son Heung-min after his move to MLS side LAFC, Frank said their Argentine World Cup-winning defender Cristian Romero would be a key figure. Grealish fell out of favour with City boss Pep Guardiola last season and made just seven starts in the Premier League. The 29-year-old was left out of City's squad for the Club World Cup in the United States in a clear indication that he was no longer wanted by Guardiola. Everton's deal for Grealish, who earns a reported £300,000 (S$500,000) per week, comes just before the new Premier League campaign starts for the Toffees at Leeds on Aug 18. 'I'm over the moon to have signed for Everton - it's massive for me, honestly. This is a great club, with great fans,' Grealish said. Grealish, who had a medical on Monday and was at Everton's training ground on Tuesday, made only seven league starts last season and was not included in City's recent Club World Cup squad. He was also omitted from England's 2024 European Championship squad and has spoken of his determination to get back in the reckoning under Thomas Tuchel and add to his 39 senior caps. "I think we're getting him at a good time because he's experienced, he understands the Premier League, and we're all fully aware of the levels he's capable of performing to," said Moyes. "I know Jack's ambition is to get back into the England squad so hopefully we can help him achieve that over the course of the season."
