Ice Cube honored at Hollywood TCL Chinese Theatre handprint ceremony

CBS News15-04-2025

Los Angeles native Ice Cube will leave his mark at a hand and footprint ceremony at Hollywood's TCL Chinese Theatre on Tuesday.
The 11 a.m. ceremony honors the rapper, songwriter and film star notably known for his lyrics on N.W.A.'s 1989 album, "Straight Outta Compton."
Along with the ceremonial honors, the 55-year-old is set to announce his first domestic headlining tour in over a decade. The Truth To Power: 4 Decades of Attitude tour kicks off on Sept. 4, with a Sept. 28 Los Angeles Crypto.com Arena performance.
The rapper recently showed some LA love performing "It Was a Good Day" ahead of the Yankees vs. Dodgers World Series Game 2. He again wore Dodger blue to celebrate the World Series champs, belting out "It Was a Good Day" to a stadium full of celebratory fans and players.
Born O'Shea Jackson Sr., he formed his first rap group C.I.A. in 1986, and in 1987, he joined Dr. Dre and Eazy E to form the gangsta rap group N.W.A.
Cube left N.W.A. in 1989 to launch a solo rap career and team with other artists. He started his film career with a role in director John Singleton's 1991 feature debut of "Boyz n the Hood," named after a 1987 rap song that Ice Cube wrote.
One of the speakers at Tuesday's Hollywood ceremony includes Cube's son, O'Shea Jackson Jr., who portrayed his father in the 2015 N.W.A biopic, "Straight Outta Compton."
Comedian and actor Mike Epps will also speak at the ceremony. Epps co-starred with Ice Cube in a series of comedic films, "Next Friday," "Friday After Next," "All About The Benjamins" and "Lottery Ticket."
N.W.A was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2016 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024.
Ice Cube has released 11 studio albums. Each of the first five were certified platinum and the next two were certified gold.
He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017.

Popular fast-food burger chain aims major comeback amid closures

Nothing is worse than staying up late and getting hungry in the middle of the night, but having nearly no options available. Luckily, many fast-food restaurants are open late or even 24 hours, and most have value meals that make buying food too tempting to pass up. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter However, not many have an entire menu dedicated to late-night munchies. Jack in the Box introduced the first Munchie Meal in 2013 as part of its late-night menu expansion. This offering provided customers with more options packed into a value meal for an affordable price. Related: McDonald's brings back unexpected breakfast item after 6 years This addition also encouraged customers to purchase late-night meals at their local Jack in the Box rather than with the competition, aiming to increase sales during extended hours. Since its debut, the fast-food chain has launched multiple versions of the Munchie Meal and collaborations with top celebrities, including Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg. Jack in the Box (JACK) has partnered with musical artist T-Pain to launch the latest Munchie Meal collaboration. The new T-Pain Munchie Meal includes a Burg-R-Tater Melt or Chick-N-Tater Melt, a taco, medium seasoned curly fries, a Stuffed Cookie, and a small drink. This latest addition also comes with an exclusive collector's edition T-Pain air freshener. If none of the selected items appeal to your taste buds, customers can customize their own with the Build Your Own Munchie Meal, where they can choose any entrée, two sides, and a drink. The T-Pain Munchie Meal is available until July 27 at all Jack in the Box restaurants nationwide and can be ordered via the Jack app or online through the Jack in the Box website. Jack in the Box and T-Pain are rolling out "Jack Zone Wars," a Fortnite gaming experience exclusively made for this collaboration and dedicated to all gamers. Players who order a Munchie Meal on the Jack app can unlock special weapons that will give them an advantage in the game. T-Pain will also host a live-streamed Fortnite event on June 26 to join players. Jack in the Box unveiled its multi-faceted "Jack on Track" plan in April to improve its long-term financial performance by closing around 150 to 200 underperforming restaurants. "Our actions today focus on three main areas: addressing our balance sheet to accelerate cash flow and pay down debt, while preserving growth-oriented capital investments related to technology and restaurant reimage; closing underperforming restaurants to position ourselves for consistent net unit growth and competitive unit economics; and, an overall return to simplicity for the Jack in the Box business model and investor story," said Jack in the Box CEO Lance Tucker in the announcement. Jack in the Box is doing everything it can to return the business to growth, and launching a Munchie Meal that encourages customer engagement is a step closer to helping it regain its lost market share. Pope Leo XIV rocks White Sox hat at the Vatican in new photos

Pope Leo XIV brought his White Sox fandom to the Vatican on Wednesday. While holding a general audience in St. Peter's Square, the Chicago-bred pontiff was photographed wearing a black White Sox cap as he greeted onlookers, including a bride and groom who appeared to be fellow fans of the AL Central club. Pope Leo XIV's sports allegiances were thrust into the spotlight in May when he made history after being elected the first American pope. He succeeded Pope Francis, who died in April at the age of 88 after a lengthy battle with double pneumonia. 6 Pope Leo XIV was seen wearing a Chicago White Sox hat at the Vatican on June 11, 2025. REUTERS The pope's brother, John Prevost, quickly set the record straight over which Chicago baseball team his sibling preferred amid Cubs chatter. 'He was never ever a Cubs fan, so I don't know where that came from,' Prevost told local Chicago station WGN TV. 'He was always a Sox fan. Our mother was a Cubs fan. I don't know, maybe that clued in there and our dad was a Cardinals fan, so I don't know where all that came from. 'And all the aunts, our mom's family was from the north side, so that's why they were Cubs fans.' 6 Pope Leo XIV waved to onlookers in St. Peter's Square on June 11, 2025. Beyond the White Sox, who lost a record 121 games last season, Pope Leo XIV is also a Villanova Wildcat, having graduated from the university in 1977. Knicks fans were hopeful Pope Leo's Villanova ties would fuel a championship berth with former Wildcats Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges. The Knicks ultimately lost to the Pacers in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Pope Leo XIV shows off his White Sox fandom at weekly general audience

Pope Leo XIV put his baseball fandom on full display Wednesday. He wore a White Sox hat as he arrived at the Vatican for his weekly general audience. Leo, a Chicago native previously known as Cardinal Robert Prevost, was elected as the first U.S.-born pontiff on May 8. Since then, his most notable sports allegiance has been unearthed. Advertisement Although the Chicago Cubs initially claimed Leo after ABC News reported that he was a rare South Side Cubs fan, Leo's brother quickly disputed that story in an interview with Chicago's WGN News. "He was never, ever a Cubs fan, so I don't know where that came from. He was always a Sox fan. Our mother was a Cubs fan. I don't know, maybe that clued in there, and our dad was a Cardinals fan, so I don't know where that all came from. And all the aunts in our mom's family were from North Side, so that's why they were Cubs fans." Then the Chicago Sun-Times located a picture of Leo at the 2005 World Series, during which the White Sox swept the Houston Astros for their first championship in 88 years. Sox on 35th blogger Joe Binder went one step further and actually dug up footage of the now-pope from Game 1 of that series. The camera briefly shows Leo as he nervously awaits the final out, with White Sox closer Bobby Jenks on the bump in a 5-3 win. The White Sox have been celebrating their most famous fan for more than a month now. Leo gave the Sox another reason to continue that parade Wednesday when he paired the team's iconic cap with his papal garments.
