Raiders trade CB Jakorian Bennett to Eagles for DT Thomas Booker IV, AP source says
That person spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because the trade is pending physicals on both players.
Bennett, drafted in the fourth round two years ago out of Maryland, started seven games for the Raiders last season before being shut down because of a torn labrum that required surgery. He played well as a cover cornerback, but Bennett was running with the second and third teams this training camp under first-year coach Pete Carroll.
At 5-foot-10, Bennett doesn't fit Carroll's preference of playing taller cornerbacks. Six-foot Eric Stokes and 6-2 rookie Darien Porter have been competing with the starters this camp.
Booker started one game and played in all 17 last season for the Eagles. He also appeared in four postseason games for the Super Bowl champions.
But Booker, a 2022 fifth-round draft pick of Houston, was fifth on the depth chart at a deep defensive tackle position this season.
The Raiders released defensive tackle Christian Wilkins on July 24 over a dispute over a recovery plan for a broken foot from last season. The club is attempting to void the remaining $35.25 million of Wilkins' deal, and he has filed a grievance with the NFL Players Association.
Defensive tackles Adam Butler and Jonah Laulu have been working with the starters.

Eagles' rookie WR joins a growing list of players to watch in preseason games
Add another rookie wide receiver, Darius Cooper to the growing list of players to watch Do this job long enough, and people will often ask you a question: 'What do you talk about when the Philadelphia Eagles' season ends?' Typically, that question is answered by stating the following. When exactly does football season end? February alone brings the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine. Then, we're discussing collegiate prospects, Pro Days, and Top 30 visits until the NFL Draft in April. Once that's done, we're on to rookie minicamps, OTAs, mandatory minicamps, and training camp. Guess what? Another rookie seems to be turning heads. We know who the Eagles' top three wide receivers are. There are also tons of talented players competing for a possible three available spots on the 53-man roster. Eagles' preseason practices cast a spotlight on another rookie WR Terrace Marshall had a physical setback and missed some time at training camp practice. That opened the door for some of the young guys, and they wasted no time in walking right through. Elijah Cooks has turned heads. He has been the fourth-best receiver at camp, but another rookie has also made a name for himself. Write Darius Cooper's name down if you haven't already. He earned some unprompted praise from his head coach during a recent Nick Sirianni press conference. An Eagles executive echoed Coach's words while speaking with Sports Illustrated. "The kid keeps making plays". Anyone who has seen him work will agree with the sentiment. The undrafted rookie provided two highlight-reel moments recently. He laid out to snag one during an end-of-game situational drill, and he beat fifth-round draftee Mac McWilliams on a slot fade from Tanner McKee during another session. McWilliams has been impressive too, but he gives up an inch in height and 25 pounds to the more stout Cooper. Cooper isn't expected to make the 53-man roster, but the Eagles hope the 76 receptions, 1,450 yards receiving, and 14 TDs translate. The level of competition he is seeing now far exceeds what he saw with the Tarleton State Texans, but it is good to see he is making the most of opportunities.

The alpha College GameDay performance that got Tory Horton drafted
There's a reason the Seattle Seahawks drafted wide receiver Tory Horton despite him missing his entire senior season with injuries. Although he sat out 2024, he announced himself to the world in Week 3 of the 2023 Season on College GameDay. Sleeper Seahawks tweeted the highlights of his performance, which made them go semi-viral among Seahawks fan circles, to the tune of 63.6k Views in just under 24 hours. Those who remember the hype around Deion Sanders in his first year as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes will recall specifically how much coverage they received in the first month, while CU Boulder was still undefeated after pulling off a dramatic ranked win against No. 17 TCU and carving up one of their old-time Big XII rivals in Nebraska. Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders were just announcing themselves to the national stage as well, so few were surprised when ESPN brought College GameDay to Boulder, even though their cross-state rivals in the Colorado State Rams were unusual for the spotlight as a Group of 5 team. However, the Rams had several players who would use the platform to become stars and go on to get drafted as well. Mohamed Kamara made life hard for Shedeur Sanders and company on offense in this game, and now is in his second year with the Miami Dolphins, who drafted him in the 5th Round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Tory Horton caught 16 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown in this game, and truly exposed this Colorado team's notable weaknesses. He proved that despite all the momentum in the world, good teams are susceptible to a versatile receiver who can run the whole route tree. The same abilities that made him great in this game translate excellently to the NFL and fit perfectly in Klint Kubiak's new offense with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp. All three receivers have the ability to play inside and outside WR positions which allows for shifts and motions that our past receivers weren't as advantageous running. The only wish I have for Horton's season is that he stays healthy. He's received great reports all offseason about his ability and can be the next longtime Seahawk WR as long as he can hold up in his talented yet slender 6'2 1/2" 196lb frame, because his athletic testing otherwise is off the charts (see the percentiles on his Relative Athletic Score here):

Steelers Receiver Gets Wake Up Call From Aaron Rodgers
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Pittsburgh Steelers legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers is heading into the final season of his illustrious NFL career. He's hoping to end his career on top of the league with a storybook run to the Super Bowl. In order to make that kind of run, the future Hall of Fame quarterback is going to need the offense to step up around him. Granted, Rodgers is no longer the elite superstar that he once was. However, he's still more than capable of playing at a high level and leading a team to potential contention. Photo byLast season with the New York Jets, Rodgers showed that he still has it. He completed 63 percent of his pass attempts for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. His numbers were still better than many quarterbacks around the league. Read more: Browns HC Makes Major QB Announcement At the top of the Steelers' wide receiver depth chart is DK Metcalf. He was acquired in a blockbuster offseason trade to give Rodgers an elite No. 1 weapon. That being said, there are some major questions at wide receiver behind Metcalf. Currently, Pittsburgh has Calvin Austin II, Robert Woods, and Roman Wilson as its next best options. Those three players could be quality targets for Rodgers, but that is not a proven concept at this point in time. With that in mind, Rodgers spoke out on Wednesday and sent a very pointed message to Wilson. "I need to get Roman out of his own head a bit," Rodgers said. "He cares so much about whether it's my approval or he's doing it right. He's just got to trust himself because he's so damn talented." Obviously, that is not the kind of quote that a young wideout wants to hear from Rodgers. The veteran quarterback has always had some level of frustration with young wide receivers dating back to his time with the Green Bay Packers. Read more: Davante Adams Casts Doubt on Travis Hunter's NFL Future Wilson will need to figure out his issues and play at a high level or risk losing playing time. The Steelers have a one-year window with Rodgers and they will do whatever it takes to compete for a championship in 2025. Perhaps the team could still look into signing a free agent like Amari Cooper. Or, if they choose to stick with the group they've put together, they need Wilson to step up. Right now, it sure doesn't sound like Rodgers is incredibly happy with where his connection is at with the young wideout.
