'Mindless' vandalism of UNESCO World Heritage Site damned
Photos shared on social media on Sunday show the Vinnie sculpture, information board and bench at the Antonine Wall World Heritage Site in Old Kilpatrick, graffiti-ed in an act that has been damned by West Dunbartonshire Council. Cllr William Rooney for Kilpatrick, said: "I'm disgusted to see this kind of vandalism in our community. "The installation in Old Kilpatrick was added only in the last couple of years as part of the Rediscovering the Antonine Wall project, and it has already been targeted by vandals. "It's a crying shame to witness such mindless vandalism in Old Kilpatrick and Faifley." It is understood that a kind-hearted local woman who saw the images on Facebook went up to the monument shortly after seeing the damage and cleaned up the site. A council team have also visited the site and carried out any repairs and clean-up work. Another chimed in: "They don't like chilli powder, and I found that birds don't mind it." And a third suggested: "Make it impossible for them to eat your bird feed by adding in a sprinkling of chilli powder." She added: "I added chilli powder to areas of my garden and they never came back. They were eating my herbs." Pest control experts at Rentokil's blog suggest the use of chilli powder as a deterrent, stating: "Rats are not fans of spicy scents. Chilli pepper flakes, cayenne pepper powder, or even a strong chilli oil can irritate their respiratory systems." They advise: "Sprinkling these spices around entry points, like air bricks, pipe entries, or under sheds, can create a barrier. Reapply after wet weather for continued protection." Similarly, the professionals at Enviro Safe Pest Control endorse this natural method of rat deterrence, asserting: "Chilli is known to irritate the respiratory tract of the rats when inhaled. The aircraft is believed to have suffered a technical issue on the runway before colliding into a second small plane on the taxiway. A loud explosion was heard as a fire quickly spread across the tarmac and onto a grassy part of the airport. It is believed that at least four people were onboard the crashed aircraft at the time. No one was on the stationary plane, reports 8KPAX. The Kalispell Police Department, Flathead County Sheriff's Office and local firefighters all rushed to the tarmac after the crash. The first emergency call came in at 2:08pm. Investigations are ongoing into what caused the accident.
