Author of book 'The Emergency' threatens to sue Manikarnika Films, Netflix for alleged 'breach of contract' and 'damage to reputation'
Coomi Kapoor, a senior woman journalist and author of the book 'The Emergency', is suing Manikarnika Films Private Limited and Netflix for alleged 'blatant breach of contract' and for allegedly 'damaging her reputation and that of her book' by the Kangana Ranaut-starrer 'Emergency' being shown on Netflix, said a press note on Monday (April 21, 2025).
Manikarnika Films could not be reached for comment. Netflix has promised to respond and the response is awaited. As per an industry representative, however, Emergency is a licensed title for Netflix and Ms. Kapoor's contract for the film is not with Netflix.
'Even after two legal notices, the wording 'based on Coomi Kapoor's book 'The Emergency'' has not been removed from the Netflix platform. The damage to her reputation as a journalist and author is irretrievable,' alleged the note.
'She signed a tripartite contract with Manikarnika Films, Penguin, and herself. However, on her lawyer's advice she included two clauses that while the producers would of course have full artistic license in making the film, nothing should be modified that was not in consonance with historical facts on the subject which are in the public domain. The contract also stipulated that the author's name and book should not be used for promoting or exploiting the film without the prior approval of the author in writing...,' it alleged.
'...when the film appeared on the Netflix platform, she discovered to her horror that in large type at the bottom it was claimed the film was based on her book and she saw the film for the first time and discovered it was a total distortion of the contents of her book,' the note alleged.

Who is Aaron Rodgers' wife? NFL star confirms marriage but keeps her identity secret
NFL star Aaron Rodgers has confirmed he's a married man — but he's not saying who the bride is. The 41-year-old quarterback, who's preparing for his first season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, revealed the news at the team's minicamp this week, adding to the growing mystery around his personal life. Aaron Rodgers was seen wearing a wedding ring during a press interaction on Tuesday. When asked directly, he confirmed the marriage, saying simply, 'Been a couple of months,' referring to an offseason wedding earlier in 2025. However, that was all he would reveal. Rodgers offered no name, no date, and no details about his wife, keeping both fans and media guessing. Speculation has swirled for months. Back in April, Rodgers hinted on *The Pat McAfee Show* that he was in a 'serious relationship,' though he didn't name his partner. In a December 2024 interview, he mentioned dating a woman named 'Brittani' — with an 'I' — but whether she is now his wife remains unclear. Rodgers has had several high-profile romances in the past, including Olivia Munn, Danica Patrick and Shailene Woodley. In the 2024 Netflix series 'Aaron Rodgers: Enigma', he reflected on those public relationships, saying he now prefers to keep his love life out of the spotlight. 'I didn't do myself any favours with some of the girls I dated after that that were in the public eye,' he admitted. Aaron Rodgers is set to play his debut season with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025. The veteran quarterback has signed a one-year deal worth $13.6 million, with performance-based incentives that could take his earnings up to $19 million. As Rodgers gears up for a new chapter on the field with the Steelers, it seems he's also starting a new life at home — quietly and away from the public eye.
