Dludluma road to facilitate economic opportunities for community
The project to upgrade the Dludluma D2950 road from gravel to tar is progressing well. The upgrade, which falls within the Nkomazi Local Municipality, spans from the D797 to the Dludluma ring road. The Mpumalanga MEC for public works, roads and transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, conducted an oversight visit on July 4 and expressed satisfaction with the work completed thus far. Thomo met with community representatives at the Dludluma community hall on September 27, 2024, where he introduced the appointed contractor and participated in a ceremonial sod-turning. The R113m tender was awarded to Sibusisiwe Construction, a locally based company. Once complete, the D2950 will serve as a key access route for essential services and function as the main bus route for local commuters. The road is expected to greatly improve mobility and provide better access to economic and public service opportunities. Thomo said the community had long awaited the upgrade and that the department remains committed to ensuring timely and successful delivery. Teksa Alarms sets up CCTV cameras in Evander to curb crime
Over the past two years, residents may have noticed CCTV cameras being installed in and around Evander. This is Teksa Alarms' initiative to improve safety and curb crime in the area. However, Teksa Alarms needs the support of residents and local businesses to make this initiative bigger and better for everyone. Teksa Alarms aims to put up 264 cameras in total and so far, 34 cameras have been installed. The cameras are linked to a server, which is continuously monitored. According to Willem Pretorius of Teksa Alarms, there has been a decline in crime in areas where these cameras have been installed. The cameras are placed strategically at intersections to get a wider angle. These cameras can reach a distance of up to 30m. They are motion-sensored and can detect any form of movement or tampering. The cameras are placed inside businesses and residents' premises. 'We have approached our clients with this initiative. All that is required from the client is approval to install a pole with the camera equipment on their premises. It will also require the client's electricity and WiFi connection to keep the cameras running and connected to our server,' said Pretorius. Residents are urged to join the Teksa Alarms neighbourhood watch for as little as R120 a month. 'The more people who join the neighbourhood watch, the faster we can install more cameras. It will also create job opportunities by employing additional armed response personnel. 'Teksa Alarms welcomes any businesses or residents who want to purchase cameras and/or poles. All the cameras currently in use have been funded at Teksa Alarms' own expense. 'When we started this initiative, we focused on the areas with the highest crime rates,' said Pretorius. He said this initiative is part of Teksa Alarms' commitment to giving back to the community, reclaiming Evander, and making it a safer, crime-free area. There is also an app available for those who join the neighbourhood watch. The neighbourhood watch app includes a panic button for quick armed response, medical assistance, vehicle support, and technical services. 'We have a passion and a clear vision for this community project, and we need your support by joining our neighbourhood watch,' said Pretorius. #MandelaDay2025: [VIDEO] Boksburg honours Madiba with acts of kindness
Businesses, charity organisations, Ward 32 Clr Marius des Vos and other individuals in Boksburg joined forces to participate in a series of acts of kindness to celebrate the life and work of the global icon, the late Nelson Mandela. This as the world marks International Nelson Mandela Day under the theme 'It's still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity'. Boksburg Civic Centre At the Boksburg Civic Centre, various local businesses converged on the lawn where they, in celebration of Mandela Day, handed out thousands of hot dogs, fruits and snack packs with sweets and other treats to thousands of the needy and vulnerable members of the community. Beneficiaries received more than just food. They were also treated to an uplifting live performance by a local saxophonist throughout the about four-hour-long event. According to one of the event organisers, Aida's Denver Ramnath, they fed approximately 3 000 people with more than 5 000 hot dogs, sweets, fruits and soft drinks from the various local businesses. 'We just want to thank the local businesses that contributed to the success of today, taking time out of their busy schedule to feed the less fortunate than us in the community. This is our annual event, and every year the initiative gets bigger. Businesses are committed to making it a success, as it is just our small way of giving back to the community on Mandela Day. 'It's heartwarming to see smiles, especially the children's faces as they receive and enjoy their food.' Why Mandela Day matters 'We are doing this because Madiba's life and work left an indelible mark on us as society, and these heartfelt gestures are our small way to show gratefulness.' Around the world, organisations and individuals are dedicating at least 67 minutes of their time to uplift communities, reflecting the 67 years the first black president spent in jail as well as his contribution to the struggle for democracy.
