Two children among 10 killed in horror weekend on roads

Two young children are among four people killed in a horrific two-car crash after a tragic weekend on the roads. The crash occurred on the Capricorn Highway, between Comet and Blackwater in Queensland's central highlands, about 10.50am on Sunday. Police believe a Holden Commodore carrying four people collided with a Toyota Hilux ute carrying two people and travelling in the opposite direction. A 28-year-old man driving the Commodore, a 32-year-old man, a six-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl died as a result of the crash. A 27-year-old travelling in the ute was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition. The ute's other occupant, a 28-year-old, was airlifted to a Brisbane hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police are investigating the cause of the crash. The deaths followed a horror three days on Queensland roads. An 18-year-old Kingaroy man died after being hit by a car in Hivesville, in the South Burnett region, on Saturday. A 45-year-old man died in a separate incident on Saturday when his motorcycle crashed into a trailer being towed by a ute stopped at an intersection at Mount Pleasant, near Mackay. A 26-year-old man suffered critical injuries and died after falling from a car on Beaudesert Beenleigh Road in Tamborine on Friday. Three teenagers - two boys and a girl aged 19 - were killed in a head-on collision in Glenella, just outside Mackay, on Friday. There have been 152 fatalities from crashes in Queensland in 2025, the same number recorded during the same period in 2024.
