A 19-year-old woman delivered a baby whilst travelling on a sleeper coach bus in Maharashtra's Parbhani, according to a report of PTI. She and a man, who claimed to be her spouse, however, discarded the newborn through the window, resulting in the infant's death, PTI claimed citing police reports. The incident took place at approximately 6.30 am on Tuesday on the Pathri-Selu Road. The matter surfaced when a vigilant citizen noticed an object wrapped in cloth being thrown from the bus, as stated by an official."A woman, identified as Ritika Dhere, was travelling to Parbhani from Pune along with Altaf Shaikh, who claimed to be her husband, in the sleeper coach bus of Sant Prayag Travels.During their journey, the woman, who was pregnant, went into labour and gave birth to a baby boy. However, the couple wrapped the newborn in a piece of cloth and threw him out of the vehicle," he said. The vehicle operator noticed the incident and questioned about it. Shaikh explained that his wife had been sick due to travel-induced nausea, according to the official.A concerned citizen discovered the infant upon inspection and immediately contacted police through their emergency number 112.A local police patrol subsequently halted the bus. Following vehicle inspection and initial investigation, the authorities detained both the woman and Shaikh. The pair stated they abandoned the infant due to their inability to provide care. The newborn succumbed to injuries sustained from the fall.Police reports indicate that whilst Dhere and Shaikh, both from Parbhani, had resided in Pune for 18 months, they failed to provide documentation supporting their claimed marital status. The authorities ensured the woman received medical attention after their arrest. The couple faces charges at Pathri police station under section 94 (3), (5) of BNS for concealing birth through secret disposal of a deceased body. The accused have received formal notice, and investigations continue.

‘Love jihad' threat to nation's integrity, says court, gives man 7-yr jail sentence
Representative photo A Yamunanagar court has sentenced a man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting and intimidating a minor Hindu girl to coerce her into a relationship with a Muslim juvenile, terming the case one of 'love jihad'. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict and said such acts were 'a potential threat' to the nation's sovereignty and integrity. While acknowledging that 'love jihad' is not a legal term under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita or the Pocso Act , the court described it as a 'purported campaign by Muslim men to convert non-Muslim women to Islam by pretending to be in love.' In Nov last year, a 14-yearold girl filed a complaint at City Yamunanagar police station, naming Shahbaj and a juvenile. She alleged the boy had stalked her on her way to school while Shahbaj pressured her to befriend him. The FIR invoked sections 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of BNS, and sections 17 (abetment), 8 (sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harassment of a child) under Pocso. The defence counsel, SS Nehra, argued that the accused was falsely implicated. However, additional sessions judge Ranjana Aggarwal, in her July 17 order, said Shahbaj systematically tried to force an interfaith relationship through 'allurement and inducement.' The court awarded him four years under Pocso Section 8, two years under Section 12, and one year under BNS Section 351(2), with fines totalling Rs 1 lakh. All sentences will run consecutively

No safety for girls in TN, claims AIADMK chief Palaniswami
Nagapattinam (Tamil Nadu), Jul 19 (PTI) AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday claimed crimes against women were increasing in Tamil Nadu and that even young girls were not safe. He alleged that criminals were getting emboldened and flayed the ruling DMK for not ensuring safety for girls and women. Addressing a rally here as part of his statewide campaign to 'protect people, and redeem Tamil Nadu", Palaniswami said, 'the culprit who allegedly raped a ten-year-old girl in Gummidipoondi is yet to be arrested. Young girls, women and even elderly persons are not safe in the DMK rule." 'Do you want such a government to continue?" the former CM asked, and the crowd replied with a thunderous 'no". Speaking at Vedaranyam, famous for the salt sathyagraha against the British, Palaniswami said people were 'disillusioned' on all fronts with the present DMK regime and 'they are ready for another Satyagraha – this time against the DMK to vote out that party in next year's Assembly election." Earlier, Palaniswami, accompanied by party seniors, visited the Basilica of Our Lady of Health, also known as the Velankanni church, lit a candle and offered prayers. While addressing a roadshow in Nagapattinam, he paused for a few minutes from his campaign vehicle till the Muslims in the neighbourhood completed their evening prayers. UP cops ban kanwariyas from carrying trishuls and hockey sticks during yatra
MEERUT: Uttar Pradesh police has banned kanwariyas from carrying sticks, tridents (trishuls), hockey sticks, and similar items during the kanwar yatra. The ban covers major districts along the yatra route, including Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Saharanpur, Bulandshahr, Hapur, and Baghpat. Authorities have also prohibited the use of motorbikes without silencers to curb noise pollution and public nuisance. The move follows several incidents of vandalism and harassment involving kanwariyas, both in UP and in Uttarakhand, where the pilgrims travel to Haridwar to collect holy Ganga water. Authorities have now made it clear that displays of weapons -- even if symbolic -- and carrying them will not be tolerated. ADG (Meerut Zone) Bhanu Bhaskar told TOI, "The govt has issued clear directives prohibiting it. We are enforcing these strictly, and FIRs are being registered against violators." The police action has come following numerous incidents this year along the pilgrimage route that have seen kanwariyas involved in violent altercations and skirmishes. In one recent case in Meerut's Pallavpuram, a group of kanwariyas from Delhi were filmed brandishing swords. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Libas Purple Days Sale Libas Undo One of them, Suraj Kumar, said, "We carry swords for safety, especially through forested areas. This one isn't even blunt." The same week, enraged pilgrims vandalised a school bus in Meerut after it accidentally grazed one of them. An FIR was filed against unidentified pilgrims from Ghaziabad. Later in Muzaffarnagar, members of a Hindu outfit allegedly tried to strip an eatery worker during an "identity check" , sparking outrage. Days after that, kanwariyas ransacked a local eatery after being served onions, damaging furniture and wrecking the kitchen. In Haridwar, a viral video showed kanwariyas assaulting a woman after her scooty brushed past a pilgrim. The video captured them abusing her, dragging her by the hair, and beating her. An FIR was filed under BNS sections for rioting, causing hurt, and assault on a woman following public outrage. Meanwhile, as part of the crackdown after the ban was announced, Muzaffarnagar police have seized 24 noisy bikes and fined 60 riders for lacking silencers. "Only after installing proper silencers were they allowed to proceed," said a police officer.
