Fatal e-hailing crash in Johor Bahru claims two lives
The incident occurred at approximately 11.27 am as the Perodua Bezza, driven by a 48-year-old local man, reportedly lost control and struck the rear of a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry.
North Johor Bahru district police chief ACP Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh confirmed that the car was believed to be travelling from Johor Bahru to Skudai. 'The driver sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a 27-year-old Singaporean man, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Sultanah Aminah Hospital,' he said in a statement.
The lorry driver, a 28-year-old local man, escaped unharmed. Authorities are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Police urge witnesses or those with information to contact Investigating Officer Inspector Zulhisyam Aziz at 019-7432966 to assist in the investigation. - Bernama

Data Centre Graft: MACC To Call Up 20 More Witnesses
KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is expected to record statements from 20 witnesses to assist in the investigation into the corruption case involving the procurement of a data centre construction project tender in Johor worth approximately RM180 million. MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Zainul Darus said that, so far, they have recorded statements from 12 individuals in connection with the investigation. He said that the three suspects - the project manager of a construction company and two company directors - arrested by MACC are still under remand, while a woman suspect was released on Sunday (July 20) after her remand order ended. "So far, there have been no new arrests in this case,' he replied briefly when contacted today. The media previously reported that a project manager of a prominent construction company who was detained for investigation into a corruption case involving the procurement of a data centre construction project tender was willing to burn almost RM1 million in cash to destroy evidence after being shocked by the MACC raid through Op Ways on Thursday (July 17). According to sources, during the raid conducted at his home in Petaling Jaya, a team of officers found RM100 banknotes totalling almost RM1 million in flames. As a result of a thorough inspection of the home, the MACC also found cash totalling approximately RM7.5 million stored in several pillow boxes, three Rolex, Omega and Cartier watches, as well as jewellery such as rings and gold coins. The accused, You Wei, entered the plea after the charge was read to him in English by a court interpreter before Judge Norazlin Othman. You Wei is accused of intentionally causing grievous hurt to the victim, also a Chinese national, by stabbing the left side of her neck with a knife. The alleged offence took place around 6.30 pm on July 14 on the second floor of a private university in Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya. He was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment and is liable to a fine or caning, upon conviction. During today's proceedings, deputy public prosecutor Nurul Sofea Jaysal did not offer bail. However, the accused's lawyer, Revin Kumar, appealed for the court's discretion to grant one, submitting that his client had fully cooperated during the investigation and was willing to comply with any additional conditions imposed. "The accused is currently undergoing treatment for bipolar disorder at a private clinic and is on prescribed medication. He is also prepared to surrender his passport and report to the police as required,' he said. The court subsequently allowed bail at RM20,000 with two sureties. The accused was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court, report to the nearest police station, and refrain from contacting the victim or any prosecution witnesses.
