
Israel PM names new security chief, defying attorney general
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Thursday his pick for the next head of the Shin Bet domestic security agency, despite the attorney general having barred such an appointment.
"Prime Minister Netanyahu announced this evening his decision to appoint Major General David Zini as the next head of the Shin Bet," a statement from the premier's office said, adding that "Zini has held many operational and command positions" within the military.

Israel military says navy strikes Yemen port of Hodeidah
The Israeli navy struck the Yemeni port of Hodeidah on Tuesday using missile ships, the military said, adding the attack was in response to recent launches by Houthi rebels towards Israeli territory. Iran hangs nine convicted Islamic State members
Iran has executed nine Islamic State (IS) group members convicted over a 2018 plot to carry out attacks inside the country, the judiciary said on Tuesday. "The death sentences of nine members of the terrorist group Daesh were carried out after confirmation by Iran's Supreme Court," the judiciary's Mizan Online news outlet reported, using the Arabic acronym for IS. The nine "had planned to carry out terrorist attacks against civilians in Iran." AFP
