England star Amy Jones continues rise in Rankings update

Dubai, June 10 (UNI) England's wicketkeeper-batter Amy Jones continued her ascent in the latest ICC Women's Rankings update. Jones, who rose three spots to seventh in the ICC Women's ODI Batting Rankings after a sensational hundred in the opening ODI of the three-game series against West Indies, continued her upward rise on the back of another hundred in the series. Her 129 from 98 in the second ODI against the Maroon Warriors helped her enter the top five places in the Women's ODI Batting Rankings. She now sits in the fourth spot with 689 Rating Points to her name. Laura Wolvaardt, Smriti Mandhana, and Nat Sciver-Brunt continue to occupy the top three spots. Courtesy of Jones' brilliance, England had an unbeaten run in the ODI series that followed the T20Is against West Indies, which they had won 3-0 as well, an ICC report said. The experienced Kate Cross was another protagonist in England's win, and finished with three scalps in the series, including an economical 1/15 in the final ODI. She gains a spot to sit in eighth place in the ICC Women's ODI Bowling Rankings. With the upcoming India tour, Jones and Cross along with other England players have an opportunity to further improve their positions in the Women's Rankings. UNI BM

Ruturaj Gaikwad to join Yorkshire for County Championship, One-Day Cup

Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad will join Yorkshire for five matches of the County Championship's Division One as well as the One-Day Cup. Gaikwad will link up with the Yorkshire squad ahead of their County match against Surrey at Scarborough in July and will remain with the team until the end of the season, the club said on its website. The 28-year-old is currently a part of the India A squad on the tour of England where they have played two four-day unofficial Tests against England Lions and their last assignment will be an intra-squad four-day match in Beckenham against the senior side from June 13-16. "Captain of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy, the Pune-native is a highly accomplished batter with six international ODI caps alongside his 23 appearances in IT20's,' Yorkshire said on their website. 'The right-hander can bat anywhere in the top four and has shown versatility when required to step up and open the batting for India. "It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country and there is no bigger Club in England than Yorkshire," Gaikwad stated. 'I know how important it is that I hit the ground running at what will be a crucial part of the season. We have some vital games in the County Championship and the One-Day Cup is a great opportunity to win some silverware.' Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath hoped Gaikward's addition would bring "extra solidity" to the team. 'He is a very accomplished cricketer with a natural all-round game that is well suited to the cricket we want to play. Ruturaj will give us some extra solidity in our batting lineup whilst having that ability to score quick runs when required. He's an exciting talent and one I know is highly rated across the game," he said. Yorkshire are currently placed second last in the 10-team Division One points table with one win, four defeats and two drawn games so far.

WTC Final: When was the last time South Africa and Australia played a Test at Lord's? What happened then?

South Africa and Australia last met at Lord's in a Test match over a century ago in 1913 (Image via X/@cric_businessHQ) Australia and South Africa are set to face each other in the ICC World Test Championship 2025 final at Lord's Cricket Ground in London on Wednesday, marking their first Test encounter in two years. The match will also revive a historic rivalry that saw these teams play at the same venue 113 years ago in a unique triangular tournament. South Africa secured their place in the final with a superior record, winning 8 out of 12 Tests and achieving a points percentage of 69.44. Australia qualified with 67.54 points percentage across 19 matches. The two cricket powerhouses have played 101 Tests against each other, with their rivalry featuring significant moments including the controversial Sandpaper Gate incident in 2018. Remarkably, Australia and South Africa have previously met at Lord's, with this matchup coming in the Triangular Tournament of 1912, which involved England as the third team. The 1912 tournament was groundbreaking as the first Test competition featuring more than two teams. It remained unique until the Asian Test Championship in 1998.
