'My words were misinterpreted': MLC K Govindaraju denies advising CM Siddaramaiah against RCB parade, distances himself from IPL controversy

's political adviser and MLC K. Govindaraju has denied reports suggesting that he advised the chief minister against holding a victory parade for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) players from the airport to Vidhana Soudha.

"My words were misinterpreted. Who am I to advise the chief minister on this matter?" Govindaraju said, clarifying that he had no role in decisions related to the cricket celebration.
He further distanced himself from the controversy by stating, "I would be the last person to advise anything on cricket, since I head the Karnataka Olympic Association."
Govindaraju's clarification comes amid criticism over the handling of the IPL victory celebrations, during which a stampede claimed 11 lives in Bengaluru.

Karnataka Home Minister requests construction of 'Welcome' arch on Tumkur highway
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 9 (ANI): Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday said that he has requested Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to give permission for the construction of a 'Welcome' arch on the National Highway in Tumkur. Speaking to reporters at Sadashivanagar, Tumkur District in-charge Minister said that Rs 5 crore has been provided from the Smart City project to build the Welcome arch on the National Highway in Tumkur. 'Union Minister V Somanna is the MP of our district. I have requested Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari through V Somanna and asked him to give permission. If permission is given, we will build a welcome arch at the beginning of Tumkur,' Parameshwara said. Parameshwara further added that many central projects need to be implemented in the district. 'Many projects related to drinking water come under the purview of the central government. Our taluk is included in this, and I have discussed it with them, he said. He further added, 'Since Tumkur city is next to the national highway, no one will know while traveling. If a welcome arch is built, it will be known.' According to Parameshwara, Union Minister Somanna will 'speak after seeing what the state government's decisions will be regarding the metro project' for Tumkur. Parameshwara stressed on Tumkur's growth and said that the district should be expanded. 'We have made an industrial hub on 20 thousand acres. Many people are asking that Tumkur should be expanded. A study is underway on this. Tumkur is 70 km from Bangalore. It will be beneficial in terms of development if it is included in the Greater Bengaluru area. We will also submit a proposal,' he said. While speaking on the Suhas Shetty murder case, Parameshwara said, 'Officials have told me that a letter has been received from the Union Home Department regarding the Suhas Shetty murder case. We will discuss this with the officials and take a decision. People from that area were talking about handing over the case to the NIA for investigation. Someone may have requested it. MPs and MLAs may have said so.' Shetty, a prominent right-wing youth leader associated with the Bajrang Dal in Karnataka's coastal belt, was brutally murdered last month in Sullia town of Dakshina Kannada district. The activist, in his early 30s, was attacked by unidentified assailants while returning home late at night. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The incident triggered widespread protests in the region, with local Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) units alleging a targeted killing. While speaking on the tragic stampede that occured during the IPL victory celebration event of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Bengaluru, Parameshwara called the June 4 incident 'unfortunate' and said that an investigation is underway and the report will soon be submitted. 'I will not speak about the stampede incident. We have entrusted this case to the one-man commission of retired judge Michael D Cunha. He will investigate and submit a report. If we give a statement, it will have a different impact. If we are asked during the investigation, we will tell. If we give a statement now, the direction of the investigation will go in a different direction,' he remarked. Earlier on Thursday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that a one-member commission has been formed to probe the incident. CM Siddaramaiah also announced that the state government has decided to suspend top police department officials, including the Commissioner of Bengaluru City Police. Speaking to the media, the Karnataka CM stated, 'Under the chairmanship of Justice Michael D'Cunha, a retired judge of the High Court, we have appointed a one-man commission to investigate the incident.' New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday slammed Rahul Gandhi over his allegations concerning Maharashtra assembly polls, saying that the Congress leader is making such remarks after losing the polls and it is not good 'to dismiss a mandate'. 'It is not good to dismiss a mandate given by the people. You lose and now say all this,' Gadkari told ANI in an interview. Rahul Gandhi had alleged 'rigging' in Maharashtra assembly polls and called upon the Election Commission to publish consolidated, digital, machine-readable voter rolls for the most recent elections to the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas of all states, including Maharashtra, saying that 'telling the truth' will protect poll panel's credibility. In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi, who is Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, referred to the ECI's response to his allegations concerning Maharashtra polls and said 'releasing unsigned, evasive notes to intermediaries is not the way to respond to serious questions'. Rahul Gandhi had written an article in an English daily on the issue. Election Commission sources had said that the poll panel wrote a detailed letter to Congress in December last year rejecting its 'misleading' claims about voter turnout data in Maharashtra polls and, instead of writing to the poll panel directly, Rahul Gandhi keeps speaking and writing to media seeking answers to his 'same unfounded doubts again and again'. They said it is not clear as to why Rahul Gandhi is shying away from writing to EC in person himself and get a reply. ECI sources had said that the poll panel had extended an invitation to the Indian National Congress (INC) for interaction, which was scheduled for May 15. However, the meeting was later cancelled at the request of INC itself. Gadkari also countered Gandhi's 'Narender-Surrender' jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gandhi had claimed that cessation of hostilities with Pakistan following Operation Sindoor had been done with mediation of US President Donald Trump. 'The citizens of the country know our government is very sensitive to the matter, how it works, how we respond and how we protect our people. We have almost ended Naxal activities in the country. (Improved) law and order is an achievement of our government,' the Union Minister said. Asked about the tragic stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, in which 11 people died during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations, Gadkari said Karnataka government should look into the lapses. 'An inquiry is being held into the matter. Where the lapses happened, Karnataka government needs to work on it,' the Union Minister stated. (ANI)
