2025 NFL mock draft: Texans land All-Big Ten offensive lineman at No. 25
The Houston Texans have some important needs to address this offseason, including in the trenches on both sides of the ball. While addressing the defensive tackle position could be considered a priority, it might be a secondary option behind finding stability in protecting C.J. Stroud.
The Texans must add two new offensive linemen in some capacity this offseason. A bigger question is what to do with the right tackle position. Tytus Howard is back, but a shift inside to guard seems inevitable after last season. Second-round pick Blake Fisher was inconsistent during his rookie season, but there's at least potential for him to improve following the promotion of Cole Popovich to offensive line coach.
Even if Houston were to land someone in free agency, finding a long-term answer in the draft feels like a no-brainer. In the latest post-NFL Scouting Combine mock draft from Pro Football Focus, the Texans stand pat at No. 25 and take Ohio State offensive lineman Josh Simmons as a potential replacement for Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil.
"Simmons would go much higher in this mock draft if he weren't rehabbing from major knee surgery," PFF's Trevor Sikkema wrote. "But according to him, rehab is going great — so great that he might even have a personal pro day before the draft. That is huge news, as he looked like one of the top players in this class before getting hurt. The Texans need interior offensive line help, but they could take the top talent in Simmons to play opposite Laremy Tunsil and move Blake Fisher inside. Don't force needs; pick good players."
Sikkema is right that Houston shouldn't force a pick by overdrafting a player not worth taking. The only concern would be shifting Fisher inside to guard. The 6-foot-7 offensive tackle has never seen reps on the inside and usually moves like this can negatively affect his career, thus making the pick a wash down the line.
Simmons could eventually replace Tunsil, who could opt-out of his contract next offseason, but it provides stability for a line that gave up the second-most sacks in 2024. Much like Tunsil's career, the former Buckeyes star could shift inside for a season while learning how to become a top-tier pass-protector ahead for a crucial 2026 season.
If the top receivers are gone, plus Alabama's Tyler Booker is off the board, Simmons is sitting there at No. 25 might be the top consolation prize.

Blue Jays Receive Alek Manoah News After Cardinals Game
Blue Jays Receive Alek Manoah News After Cardinals Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Blue Jays have defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in each of their first two games of their three-game series and are aiming to complete the series sweep on Wednesday. Advertisement Toronto recently jumped past the Tampa Bay Rays for the second-place spot in the AL East standings. Additionally, they are just four games behind the New York Yankees for the division lead. Despite the Blue Jays' overall success this season, they have dealt with numerous injuries and absences. This includes starting pitcher Alek Manoah, who has not taken the mound since May 29, 2024, after undergoing Tommy John surgery. After the Blue Jays' win over the Cardinals on Tuesday, the team received news regarding the 27-year-old that provides a major update on his recovery. Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah (6).Dan Hamilton-Imagn Images Though the Blue Jays are among the top teams in the AL East, their pitching has been rocky all season. Getting Manoah back on the mound should provide them a big boost and provide a bit more consistency in the rotation. Fortunately for them, it seems that he is making good progress in his recovery. Advertisement According to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon, Manoah faced live hitters on Wednesday for the first time since undergoing surgery on his elbow. Additionally, Bannon said the session "went well." "Alek Manoah faced live hitters today in Florida (including Daulton Varsho) for the first time since Tommy John surgery. It 'went well,'" Bannon wrote on X. "Big step as he approaches a late-season return #BlueJays" The Florida native is just three years removed from his All-Star campaign in 2022, when he also finished third in the AL Cy Young Award voting. Manoah has struggled to stay healthy since, but he should provide a big boost to the Blue Jays once he makes his return. Controversial Browns WR Diontae Johnson Wants to 'Change The Narrative'
Controversial Browns WR Diontae Johnson Wants to 'Change The Narrative' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Some Cleveland Browns hoped their team would find another wide receiver with the seven picks the team utilized at the NFL Draft. Jerry Jeudy proved he could be a strong No. 1 option through the 2024 season, but his offense needs another punch in the passing game. Advertisement But they've done it another way. A controversial way. The Browns let Elijah Moore walk (he's with the Bills) after tallying 61 receptions and 538 yards in that campaign. Cedric Tillman, the next man up on the depth chart, had only 339 receiving yards a year ago. Enter Diontae Johnson, who on Wednesday spoke to the media in an effort to stem a tide of negativity. "I don't want to speak on a lot of stuff," Johnson said. "Everybody's going to have their opinions, you know what I'm saying? So at the end of the day, I'm the only one in that room that really know what's going on. They're entitled to their own opinion, so I can only go off of what I know and then try to go off what I put out there and my best effort. ... Advertisement "Last year is last year. I'm trying to change that narrative and move the right way and keep going." The Browns in late April signed Johnson, 28, to a one-year deal worth the veteran minimum ($1.17 million) that includes no guaranteed money. Johnson said the Browns were the only team that reached out to him in free agency before he signed. That tells a story. Johnson's first five seasons came with the Pittsburgh Steelers (where he had 391 catches for 4,363 yards and 25 touchdowns) before he was traded to the Carolina Panthers last March. That move preceded a subsequent trade to the Baltimore Ravens after seven games. Advertisement He spent four games with the Ravens before being placed on waivers where the Houston Texans claimed him. The Browns originally brought Johnson in for a visit last week and rumors of his intentions to join the team quickly swirled. He's bounced around the league amid behavioral concerns. Is that a "narrative''? Or an issue? "I'm still in that form," said Johnson, a 2019 NFL Draft third-round pick who made the Pro Bowl in 2021. "It's just a matter of whenever I get my opportunities to put it on film."
