Outrage over fundraisers as Pheobe's family hits out
Shortly after Pheobe Bishop was remembered as a bright and bold spark at a memorial vigil in the Queensland town of Gin Gin, her mother revealed that a fundraising page had been created that was not approved by the family.
The GoFundMe page was established on Sunday and had a target to raise $10,000.
The 17-year-old was missing for three weeks, and her housemates James Wood, 34 and Tanika Bromley, 33, have been charged with her murder.
'THIS HASN'T BEEN APPROVED OR SUPPORTED BY THE FAMILY,' the 17-year-old's furious mother, Kylie Johnson, wrote on Facebook when she shared the unofficial fundraising page.
The post was quickly flooded with comments encouraging Ms Johnson to report the page.
The organiser of the unwanted fundraiser commented on the post, saying she didn't intend for it to be a scam.
'It was a genuine act of trying to help. Whatever money was donated was going to you to do as you see fit,' Catherine Stevenson wrote. Kylie Johnson shared the unsupported GoFundMe page on her Facebook. Credit: Facebook
The page has since been taken down.
Another fundraiser, which misspells Pheobe's name, has been created by a man from Melbourne to assist in 'covering costs in facilitating public memorial efforts... and other community-driven support initiatives', which is still live on GoFundMe.
The organiser acknowledged that the fundraiser is not affiliated or endorsed by Pheobe's family.
The official GoFundMe page supported by Pheobe's family has received almost 150 donations, raising $5,800.
A message shared on the page says that in honour of Pheobe's memory, the proceeds will be donated to support services such as the SES, who 'volunteer their time without reimbursement and have played an integral part of finding missing loved ones in our community.'
Funds will also be donated to the Y School in Bundaberg, where Pheobe attended.
'This is more than a fundraiser — this is a tribute to a beautiful life, and a call to action to protect the most vulnerable in our communities,' a message on the page reads.
The goal is to raise $17,000.
The Nightly has reached out to GoFundMe for comment.
Ms Johnson also shared that a 4x4 convoy will take place next Sunday to honour one of Pheobe's passions.
'Anyone that knew Phee knew that she loved the outdoors, she got her passion for cars from her poppy and dad and her passion for 4x4ing and camping from me and her brothers,' Ms Johnson wrote on Facebook.
Pheobe's friends and the wider Gin Gin community have been invited to meet at the Gin Gin Motel and drive to Bundaberg Airport.
People have been encouraged to wear bright colours or clothing with butterflies.
On Saturday, police confirmed human remains were found in the Good Night National Park near Gin Gin and a crime scene was established.
Wide Bay Burnett Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield said additional testing and examination had to take place to formally identify the remains as Pheobe's.
'We always wanted to bring Pheobe home, and we believe that this is the first step in that process,' Det-Insp Mansfield said.
'We do hope that this development, coupled with the arrests...will bring some level of closure to Pheobe's family so they can begin to move forward with their grieving process.'
On Thursday, Queensland Police charged James Wood, 34, and Tamika Bromley, 33, with one count each of murder and two counts each of interfering with a corpse.
At 2.30pm on Friday, officers discovered what they believe is Pheobe's body.

EXCLUSIVE: Inside the home Pheobe Bishop shared with her alleged killers
The house Pheobe Bishop lived in with her alleged killers has been at the centre of controversy since she went missing more than three weeks ago. Now the landlords of the house in Gin Gin — a rural town about 50km west of Bundaberg, Queensland — have opened their doors to 7NEWS cameras. WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Inside the home Pheobe Bishop shared with her alleged killers. The owners, who had previously lived in the home when they first married and started a family, say they are still in shock at its condition now. It comes after human remains believed to belong to Bishop were discovered in dense bushland in an area of Good Night Scrub Park, south of Gin Gin, on Friday afternoon. Bishop, 17, from Bundaberg, had been missing since May 15. She had been preparing to fly to Western Australia to visit her boyfriend but failed to check in at Bundaberg Airport. The Gin Gin home she shared with two other people was among several crime scenes involved in initial investigation into her disappearance. Bishop's housemates James Wood, 34, and Tanika Bromley, 33, have now been charged with one count of murder and two counts of interfering with a corpse. Bromley had taken out the lease on the Gin Gin house only six months ago, the landlords told 7NEWS. Footage taken by 7NEWS shows the floor of the home covered in rubbish, clothing and dog faeces. Credit: 7NEWS Now, footage captured by 7NEWS shows the home littered with clothing, rubbish and the faeces of multiple dogs. Police confirmed a number of dogs had been found dead at the property, although it is not know how they died. The footage also shows items the landlord described as gel blasters — which are legal in Queensland — propped up against one of the bedroom walls. The 7NEWS footage also shows doors and walls with hastily patched holes and broken locks — all damage which the landlords say was not there before Bromley and Wood moved in. The landlords said the home had previously been a place of joy, peace and comfort for them — a stark contrast to what 7NEWS cameras captured. The landlords said the property had previously been their own happy family home. Credit: 7NEWS 'The air tastes dirty and it smells just … I don't know how people can be breathing in this,' the landlord said. 'A rubbish dump's probably cleaner. 'I just can't understand how someone can live in conditions like this. 'It's overwhelming what you see. Where do you even begin? What do you do?' The landlords believe it will cost between $10,000 to $15,000 to clean up and fix the damaged home, including the use of skip bins to remove rubbish. 'Insurance excess, repairs, the unlivable state of the interior, and the large amount of rubbish items to clean and remove are overwhelming,' they posted to a GoFundMe trying to help cover costs. 7NEWS footage from inside the home. Credit: 7NEWS The landlords said Tanika Bromley never missed a rental payment until 10 days before Pheobe Bishop's disappearance. Credit: 7NEWS They said Bromley was about to be evicted from the home after it failed its last inspection, saying she had already been given notice to leave. It was alleged she had then cut off all contact with the property manager. The landlords said they met Bromley years ago, at which time had ticked all the boxes as a tenant. On Monday evening, hundreds of people attended a second candle-lit vigil in two days paying tribute to Bishop near her family home in Bundaberg. Her older sister, Kaylea Bishop, made an emotional plea for people to appreciate their siblings, no matter what. 'Don't take it for granted, just cherish it,' she said. 'Love the good and the bad. Worship it all. Capture the memories.' — With Michael Hammond

‘OUR ANGEL': Tears flow for much-loved girl killed in crash
A 15-year-old girl who was killed when the car she was in with five other teenagers rolled in the South West has been remembered for her ability to bring a 'ray of sunshine everywhere she went'. Caitlyn Bragger was a passenger in a Toyota Landcruiser driving on Scarp Road near the intersection of Hoffman Road, in Hoffman, east of Yarloop, when it left the road, rolling several times on Saturday night. Police say the car was being driven by a 16-year-old boy. He was taken by ambulance to Bunbury Regional Hospital along with a 17-year-old boy for treatment of serious injuries. An 18-year-old boy and two 16-year-old girls were treated for minor injuries. Caitlyn's loved ones have launched a fundraiser in the wake of the tragedy. 'It is with heavy hearts we share, that on the 7th of June we suddenly and tragically lost our beautiful girl Caitlyn,' Mekayla Cowcher wrote. 'Gone way too soon at the young age of only 15. 'She was a daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, aunty and friend. She bought a ray of sunshine everywhere she went, so outgoing and never left a dull moment in life. Known for her kindness, unique sense of humour, and devotion to her family and friends.' Caitlyn Bragger was a passenger in a Toyota Landcruiser that rolled several times on Saturday night. Credit: Unknown / GoFundMe Ms Cowcher said Caitlyn's family was now left 'broken and in pieces, lost and confused'. 'No one ever expects something like this to happen, you can't prepare yourself,' she said. The fundraiser has been launched to help cover the teenager's funeral expenses. 'Every donation, no matter the amount will go directly towards giving our girl Caitlyn the dignified farewell she deserves. We never expected to say goodbye to her beautiful soul so soon,' Ms Cowcher wrote. 'We're so grateful for your love, support, and any contribution you can make during this difficult time. If you're unable to donate, sharing this with others means the world to us. 'Forever 15, forever in our memory and hearts. Our Angel In Heaven.' Witnesses Kane, Rocquo, Macy, and Jett were camping near the area the incident when they saw the horror crash. 'We just saw their lights go through the bush, and then just bang and it was just screams after that,' they said. The four friends rushed to the aid of the crash victims. 'So we just all went up there, and just, it was just a mess. It was pieces everywhere, like everyone was just bleeding,' Rocquo said. 'We were trying to pick the roof up, we were trying to open the doors, like, trying to get everyone out, but you just, you can't you can't pick it up. You can't do anything. And it's just sad.' The witnesses said the roof of the car had completely caved in. To donate, visit this link.

WA teen Caitlyn Bragger remembered as ‘ray of sunshine' after overloaded 4WD crashes
Tributes have begun to flow for a teen girl killed in a horror car accident near a camping ground on Saturday. Caitlyn Bragger, 15, was one of six teens in an overloaded 4WD that crashed near Brockman Lake on Scarp Rd at Hoffman, about an hour and 40 minutes south of Perth, at about 8pm. She was a passenger in the white Toyota LandCruiser which Western Australia Police said was driven by a 16-year-old boy. The car rolled several times in the crash, police said. Nearby campers told 7NEWS that they saw the car snaking around the area near them and watched as the headlight moved through trees in the distance before they heard a loud bang and screaming. 'It shook us for a while,' one of the campers who rushed to help said. Bragger died of her injuries at the scene. The driver and a 17-year-old boy were seriously injured and taken to Bunbury Regional Hospital. An 18-year-old boy and two 16-year-old girls also suffered minor injuries. Bragger's family 'are now left broken and in pieces, lost and confused,' a GoFundMe fundraising for her funeral said. The fundraiser's organiser, Mekayla Cowcher, said she also hopes it will help ease the financial burden 'on her heartbroken family, who are unable to return to work as they try to cope with the overwhelming grief of losing their precious Caitlyn.' 'No one ever expects something like this to happen, you can't prepare yourself.' Bragger's aunt, Danica Pierce, said her 'heart is seriously struggling to take all this pain'. 'You are going to be so missed, now an angel in heaven but way too young, my heart breaks.' Cowcher remembered Bragger as an 'outgoing' girl. 'She was a daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, aunty and friend. She brought a ray of sunshine everywhere she went. 'Known for her kindness, unique sense of humour, and devotion to her family and friends.'
