Liam is believed to have had a private jet on standby at the airport to take him to his home in the south of France after the band's final gig at Manchester's Heaton Park. Rashford, 27, and his team of advisors were instead forced to drive 80 miles to East Midlands airport instead. The player was then delayed an hour before boarding a private jet which was due to land shortly after 8pm on Sunday. The deal does not allow United to recall the striker. United will save £15million in wages, which would be vital funds for Amorim to overhaul his squad. Rashford hopes to travel with Barcelona when the Spanish club departs this week for its pre-season tour of Asia, which begins next Sunday. The England international spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa after a move to Spain became too complicated in the January window. He has remained steadfast that he wanted to move to a club playing Champions League football. Should the move go to plan and Rashford seal a permanent move next summer, it would end his 20-year association with United. The United academy product scored 138 goals since his debut in 2015 and has made 426 appearances for the club, the last of which came against Viktoria Plzen in December.

Marcus Rashford in line for Man Utd reunion after Barcelona transfer move
Marcus Rashford is close to joining Barcelona on loan and should the Manchester United outcast prove his fitness over the next fortnight, he'll face-off against an ex-team-mate Marcus Rashford is set to come up against ex-team-mate Jesse Lingard once his move to Barcelona is finalised. Rashford, 27, will join Barca on a season-long loan after the La Liga champions reached an agreement with Manchester United. The deal is a straight loan with an option to buy for £26million at the end of the 2025-26 season. Rashford has agreed to take a 15 per cent cut on his £325,000-a-week wage which Barcelona will cover in full. Barca have prioritised the England international after cooling their interest in Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, who'd cost more than £60m. Hansi Flick recently described both players as 'fantastic' but it's Rashford who's heading to Catalunya and he could be part of Barcelona's squad for their pre-season tour of Asia which begins next week. Flick's title winners begin their run of friendlies by facing Japanese side Vissel Kobe next Sunday. They'll then travel to South Korea to play against Seoul, where Lingard now plies his trade, on Saturday, July 31. Rashford formed a close friendship with Lingard, 32, having both coming through the Red Devils' academy before spending six years together in the first-team. The midfielder left United in 2022, joining Nottingham Forest on a free transfer. After Lingard returned to Old Trafford in December 2022, he and Rashford shared an exchange on Instagram. "More than just a friend, good to see you bro," Rashford wrote, to which Lingard replied: "All love bro." In February of this year, Lingard defended himself after he, Rashford and Paul Pogba were accused of 'destroying the culture' at United by a fan. "Please explain how me paul and Marcus destroyed Manchester United's culture?" the Seoul captain replied. "Lool we was just enjoying our life of we played for biggest club in the world of course we made mistakes and we learn but we gonna have fun and smile and dance." Will Marcus Rashford be a success at Barcelona? Give us your prediction in the comments section. Lingard's connection to United remains strong, having woken up at 4am to watch May's Europa League final. "They will always be one of the biggest clubs in the world and supporters will support them through thick and thin," the former Red Devils star told BBC Sport. "It might be a long-term project with [Ruben] Amorim. He knows what he wants to do. It's tough when you're not in the Champions League to attract players so he was relying on winning the Europa League. It's harder to recruit when you're not in the Champions League. It's 100 per cent a factor." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football. Barcelona's Marcus Rashford wage contribution revealed as Man Utd star nears transfer
Marcus Rashford is heading to Barcelona on a season-long loan with the option to buy and, while Manchester United were seeking a straight transfer, the wage contribution is key to the deal Marcus Rashford's patience has paid off and he will be leaving Manchester United for Barcelona, with a loan deal close to being agreed between the two clubs. Rashford has only had eyes for Barca since his loan spell at Aston Villa concluded early due to injury and, barring any hiccups, he will get his way. The 27-year-old rejected a mega-money move to Saudi Arabia and has been waiting for Barca and United to come to terms over a move. Barcelona were initially slightly reluctant, as they first chased Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, and then flirted with Liverpool winger Luis Diaz. But Hansi Flick's side are now keen to sign the United forward, viewing him as an option on the left of their 4-3-3 formation and as a back-up to veteran centre-forward Robert Lewandowski. Barca's financial struggles in recent years have been well documented and the Catalan giants have been unwilling to sign Rashford permanently straight away. United put a price tag of £40million on Rashford, before placing him Ruben Amorim's 'bomb squad' alongside Jadon Sancho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho. United want to sell their unwanted players as quickly as possible in order to help fund a major squad overhaul, which has already seen Matheus Cunha arrive for £62.5m, with Bryan Mbeumo set to follow for £70m. However, they have agreed to loan Rashford out again on the proviso that Barca pay the entirety of Rashford's wages and they retain an option to buy. That is a significant financial commitment he is paid £325,000-a-week on a contract until June 2028. Getting that off their wage bill will come as a relief for United, who are also close to agreeing Sancho's move to Juventus in the coming days. United are about to head off on their pre-season tour of the United States and the click is ticking down towards the start of the 2025/26 season. While Rashford's departure has been in the pipeline for some time, with the striker having fallen out with Amorim over the winter before being loaned to Villa in January, it is still a major deal for both parties. Rashford came through the United academy and has 138 goals and 77 assists in 426 appearances for his home-town club. He has helped them win the FA Cup and the EFL Cup twice and the Europa League and his exit will mark a significant moment. Speaking back in December, he said: "If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person. "When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me. When I leave it's going to be 'no hard feelings'. You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person. For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps."
