Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurates direct flight services to Abu Dhabi
The maiden flight with 180 passengers on board departed from BPIA earlier in the day. Addressing mediapersons, Majhi said it was a matter of pride for Odisha as citizens had long wanted flight services to Abu Dhabi.
"With Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance and Centre's support, the state government launched the direct flight to Abu Dhabi under the new destination policy," he said.
IndiGo airlines will operate flights on the Abu Dhabi-Bhubaneswar route on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday every week. The inauguration took place on the day when the BJP government in the state is celebrating its first anniversary.
The flight services were launched under Odisha's Building Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) initiative. The Chief Minister said the new flight to Abu Dhabi will connect Odisha with the Middle-East countries. The flight service will enhance commerce, tourism, investments and cultural exchange, he added.

Union Minister assures Karnataka of making arrangements for supply of fertilizers to tide over shortage
Union Minister for Agriculture Shivaraj Singh Chauhan has assured Karnataka, facing urea shortage, of making arrangements to supply the remaining quantum of fertilizers from the allocated share to help tide over the shortage, according to Karnataka Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy. In an official note, Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy said the Union Minister had made the assurance at a video conference of State Agriculture Ministers. Responding to an appeal by him to make up for the short supply from the Centre, the Union Minister had said that he would talk to the Secretary to the Union Fertilizers' Ministry and make arrangements, he noted. At the videoconference, Karnataka again blamed the Centre's short supply for the urea shortage in the State, and appealed to it to immediately provide the remaining stock of 2.67 lakh tonnes. Giving the break-up of the urea shortage, Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy told Mr. Chauhan that the shortage in the State stood at 1.27 lakh tonnes in July and 1.4 lakh tonnes in August. Pointing out that the south-west monsoon is the mainstay for the State's agricultural sector and sowing would gain steam by August-September that marks the closing phase of this season, the Minister expressed concern that the sowing and standing crops may get hit if farmers did not get adequate fertilizers on time. He also noted that urea was in great demand as it was being used as a 'top-dose fertilizer' for most of the crops. Emphasising the point that shortage of urea and DAP had become a national problem, Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy said Ministers from several States had raised issues related to urea shortage at the videoconference. He also brought to the notice of Mr. Chauhan that the State government had begun the operations of University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences in Mandya from this academic year and appealed to him to expedite the process of bringing the new university under ICAR's recognition so that the Central funds for development of the university could be availed.

Passengers stage brief protest on Delhi airport runway after IndiGo flight returns
Passengers of IndiGo flight 6E 360 from Delhi to Darbhanga staged a brief protest on the runway of IGI Airport on Thursday after their aircraft returned to Delhi shortly after take-off and later to sources, the Delhi–Darbhanga flight was initially delayed due to weather conditions in the Delhi-NCR region. After take-off, the aircraft was forced to return to its base as Darbhanga Airport had landing restrictions due to operational timing landing at IGI Airport, a group of passengers sat in a brief protest on the runway. The protest lasted only a few minutes and ended after airport security persuaded the group to leave the runway. Sources said the cancellation was due to the combined impact of poor weather in Delhi and landing restrictions at Darbhanga Airport. The airline offered passengers options to reschedule, take alternate flights, or receive full refunds. New Delhi, Aug 14 (PTI) IndiGo on Thursday cancelled its flight from the national capital to Darbhanga, Bihar, after a delay, prompting a few passengers to protest at the tarmac of the Delhi airport, sources said. 'The departure of IndiGo flight 6E 360 from Delhi to Darbhanga was delayed due to heavy rains, waterlogging, and traffic congestion in Delhi. 'Later, the flight had to be cancelled owing to watch hour restrictions at Darbhanga airport that could not be extended," the airline said in a statement. Details of the number of passengers on board the flight could not be immediately ascertained. The sources said a few passengers protested at the tarmac. 'The customers at the tarmac were guided to the terminal with the support of security agencies at the airport and our team ensured their comfort," IndiGo said. The airline also said that all possible arrangements were made for the affected customers, including refreshments, alternate scheduling option, or cancellations with full refund. Regretting the inconvenience caused to the passengers, the airline said its teams were present to assist and keep the customers informed throughout the process.
