Travis Hunter shines at Jaguars practice, shows off two-way potential
Travis Hunter's greatest gift might be his athleticism, and after it being on full display for two years at Colorado, the former Buffaloes star is ready to show out on Sundays in the NFL.
The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner is not waiting for Sundays to show out. At Tuesday's Jacksonville Jaguars practice, Hunter showed why he was the No. 2 overall pick and a true two-way player.
Hunter lined up at cornerback against wide receiver Darius Lassiter and made a spectacular one-handed tip, diving interception that, by the video, looked like it prevented a touchdown.
After beginning OTAs, practicing with the offense and getting reps in at wide receiver, Hunter has spent the majority of the last few days with the Jaguars' defense and looks to have fit in seamlessly.
Hunter is a true unicorn and might be the first ever NFL player to truly play both sides of the ball at an elite level. During his final year at Colorado, the two-way superstar racked up 36 total tackles, four interceptions, 11 pass breakups, one tackle for loss and one forced fumble en route to the Heisman Trophy and the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
The odds are stacked against him to continue his elite two-way play at the highest level, but if anyone can do it, it is Hunter, who has an inspiring amount of self-belief to go along with his top-tier talent.

Right now, in preseason, we've got things that I can't control, so I've just got to control what I can control. When I'm in there, just do what I do best." Carter and the Giants will return to the practice field on Tuesday before wrapping up the preseason on Thursday night against the New England Patriots. After that, Carter will get his wish and finally suit up for a full NFL game, hoping to avoid the same mistakes he made against the Jets on Saturday night. Jayden Daniels' deep ball appears to be in midseason form
The Washington Commanders received some good news on Saturday when top wide receiver Terry McLaurin was activated from the physically unable to perform list. The nature of McLaurin's injury is debatable. Remember, he initially held out of training camp due to a contract dispute with the team, before reporting after four days. By reporting, he could no longer be fined, so the Commanders placed him on the PUP list, citing an ankle injury. Now, Washington will ramp up McLaurin's physical activity to get him ready for Week 1. So, while the contract saga continues, McLaurin has returned to practice, which is good news for everyone. Meanwhile, with McLaurin out, quarterback Jayden Daniels has spent that time building a rapport with Deebo Samuel. The former Pro Bowl wideout has looked excellent since arriving in the spring and seems poised for a big season in the burgundy and gold. Samuel is known for his ability after the catch. He immediately turns into a running back once the ball is in his hands and is one of the toughest players in the NFL to tackle. Since arriving in Washington, the Commanders have used Samuel everywhere, and he appears to be on the same page with Daniels in the deep passing game. Check out this gem from Saturday's practice: Daniels is known for his accuracy, specifically with the deep ball. Last season, Daniels and McLaurin frequently connected down the field, and the Commanders hope that connection resumes once McLaurin is back on the field. All appears fine on Daniels's end. How Wisconsin great Braelon Allen performed in New York Jets' preseason win over Giants
Former Wisconsin running back Braelon Allen delivered a strong performance in the New York Jets' preseason loss to the New York Giants on Saturday. Allen took seven carries for 34 yards (4.9 yards per carry) in the 31-12 defeat. Just like in the team's preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers, Allen was more efficient than starter Breece Hall, who rushed for just 26 yards on seven carries. Allen now has 67 rushing yards on 15 carries through two preseason contests, compared to Hall's 35 yards on 10 carries. The former Wisconsin great is unlikely to claim the full-time workload when the 2025 season kicks off, both due to Hall's talent as a pass-catcher and his status as a second-round draft selection. But it's hard to ignore Allen's current trajectory. At the least, he is showing enough production and consistency to begin to carve into Hall's workload. None should be surprised if Allen improves on his 92-carry, 334-yard, two-touchdown rookie season in 2024. He is currently a popular pick for a sophomore breakout, especially as the Jets work to establish an identity under new head coach Aaron Glenn.
