India will take on England in the fourth Test of the five-match series at Old Trafford from July 23. The visitors, led by Shubman Gill, are trailing 2-1 after a close defeat at Lord's and will be under pressure to bounce back in Manchester.
The last time India played a Test at Old Trafford was in August 2014, during another tough series in England. India were bowled out for just 152 in the first innings after a dramatic collapse that saw them slump to 8 for 4 within the first six overs. James Anderson and Stuart Broad tore through the top order, dismissing Murali Vijay, Gautam Gambhir,
Virat Kohli
and Cheteshwar Pujara early.

It was then-captain MS
Dhoni
who held the innings together with a gutsy 71 off 133 balls.
He struck 15 boundaries and absorbed pressure while wickets kept falling at the other end. Dhoni's knock was the highest in the innings, and Ravichandran Ashwin added a valuable 40. The pair added 66 runs for the seventh wicket, helping India recover from a dire position.

Shubman Gill Receives Massive Verdict Amid Handshake Row: 'Not Scared To Poke...'

Former England cricket team skipper Michael Vaughan was quite impressed with Shubman Gill 's leadership in the ongoing Test series. The India-England series was the first one for Gill as a captain but his batting performances as well as courtageous outlook has earned him a lot of praise. While India are trailing 1-2 in the five-match series, the young side has shown a lot of fight and Gill has been leading from the front. Vaughan praised Gill for the aggression that he has shown on the pitch and how he has backed his teammates in multiple situation during the series when tempers flared on the pitch. "I like to see a young captain with a little bit of authority. I've actually loved the way that he has spoken. He's not been scared to kind of poke the bear. You've got to stand up for your teammates, for what you believe as a team. So far, in Shubman Gill, I am seeing a captain that is willing to do that," Vaughan said on Cricbuzz. Gill got into an on-field spat with Zak Crawley during the third match and during the fourth Test at Old Trafford, he once again backed his batters during the entire 'handshake' controversy. Former India wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik was all praise for Gill as well and credited him for how he handled the situation towards the end of the fourth Test. "He came in as a young captain and people were not sure how it is going to pan out, but I can tell you, we have got a bona fide superstar as a Test captain because of the guts that he is showing as a batter, because of how much he stands his ground about what he believes in. The last 10-15 minutes, the way it unfolded, he was just standing there in the balcony, literally poker face saying, 'Get out there, get your hundreds'," Dinesh Karthik said.

'Tough to join mid-game': Ajinkya Rahane on Dhruv Jurel ahead of fifth Test at The Oval

Dhruv Jurel (Getty Images) NEW DELHI: India's veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane praised young wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel for taking on the wicketkeeping responsibilities during the fourth Test against England after vice-captain Rishabh Pant suffered an injury while batting. Pant fractured his toe on Day 1 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. Rahane, who is currently in England, took to 'X' (formerly Twitter) to commend Jurel for his performance, calling it one of the toughest tasks in the game. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "It's tough to join as a wicket-keeper mid-game, but Dhruv Jurel stepped in and did a really solid job. Full credit to him," Rahane posted. Speaking further on the challenge, Rahane highlighted the difficulty of adapting mid-match, especially in English conditions. "When you are sitting outside, when you are watching the game and suddenly you have to come inside and do the wicket keeping, which I feel in England is the most toughest job. I thought he did that really well. He was really calm behind the wicket. He was composed. I thought his suggestions to the players, KL Rahul and also for the captain were really amazing." This was the second time in the ongoing series that Jurel was asked to don the gloves. In the third Test, Pant had also sustained a finger injury while attempting to stop a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah. Jurel had then stepped in to keep wickets in his absence. IND vs ENG: Gautam Gambhir loses cool during heated exchange with ground staff at The Oval ahead of 5th Test Following the conclusion of the fourth Test, which ended in a draw, the BCCI confirmed that Pant had been ruled out of the remainder of the series. Narayan Jagadeesan was named as his replacement in the squad. Given Jurel's recent experience behind the stumps, he is likely to feature in the playing XI for the fifth and final Test. The final Test will be held from July 31 to August 4 at The Oval in London. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!
