Dinesh Karthik Breaks Silence On Viral Post Claiming India Star Was Denied Entry At Lord's

NDTV3 days ago
Following a viral video which circulated on social media, in which a fan pointed out how India star Jitesh Sharma was denied entry at the Lord's cricket ground, former India wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik took to 'X' to quickly shut down the rumour mill. Karthik revealed the entrance where Jitesh, who has played nine T20Is for India, was stopped by a guard was not the entrance to Lord's but rather to the media center, where he himself had invited Jitesh.
"These are some issues with social media that a lot face . I invited Jitesh to the comm box , he had come , and I came and met him down and took him to the comm box and he met everyone there. Btw this is below the media center , not the entrance to the ground," posted Karthik.

This news came out on the same day when Farokh Dastoor, CEO of the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA), confirmed to IANS on Wednesday that they have issued an NOC to Jitesh, to join the Badora domestic team ahead of the 2025-26 season.
'Jitesh has enjoyed a close friendship with Krunal Pandya, his RCB teammate during the side's first IPL win in June. With him not having played Ranji Trophy last season and Pandya aiming to make a Baroda team which can win a domestic title in the upcoming season, it all came together for Jitesh to leave Vidarbha,' said sources aware of the development to IANS.
In the last domestic season, Jitesh captained Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) competition and played under Karun Nair 's leadership in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT). A move to Baroda means Jitesh will be able to play both white ball and red ball formats, where he's played only 18 first-class games since making his longer format debut in 2015/16.
For RCB in IPL 2025, Jitesh played key knocks as a finisher, including hitting an unbeaten 85 in a must-win against Lucknow Super Giants and helping RCB finish in the top two of the points table. He also served as RCB's captain when Rajat Patidar suffered a finger injury towards the back end of the ca/ompetition.

'There's so much money in the ICC': Michael Vaughan rants about what annoys him most in modern cricket

Former England captain Michael Vaughan (Photo by) International cricket as a whole, has its own flaws and challenges. From players preferring to focus their careers on domestic leagues and competitions across countries over donning the jersey of the national team, to stars retiring early from international duty, the current scenario is far from ideal. In an earnest discussion about the current state of the sport, cricket legends Brian Lara , Alastair Cook , David Lloyd, Phil Tufnell and Michael Vaughan debated what could potentially fix the current predicament. Speaking on the "Stick to Cricket" podcast, the legends mulled over what the most 'annoying' thing in the modern game is at the moment, with all of them taking turns. "That playing for your country isn't the biggest thing," said Cook, eliciting sharp reactions from the rest of the legends. Brian Lara sided with the former England skipper. In a long rant about how the money is not shared equally between the various cricket boards across the world, Vaughan said, "I think the thing that annoys me most about the game is the pie's not split right. There's so much money in the ICC. Seriously, that's wrong. That is my biggest frustration. If we want to get to a stage—and it might be two tiers of cricket—the only way that's going to be fair is if the pie's—I'm not saying it has to be exactly the same—but the likes of the West Indies, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, New Zealand—they've got to get more of the pie. " The legend argued that paying players better will directly result in them playing for their countries for a longer period of time. A recent instance of the same could be seen in the retirement of Nicholas Pooran, aged 29 from international cricket. 'Cricketers Aren't Cattle... ': Harish Thawani on the IPL and Business of Indian Cricket "So you can pay your players a nicer sum of money that they will stay playing for their country for longer. That's my biggest bugbear," exclaimed Vaughan. Poll What do you think is the biggest issue in international cricket today? Players prioritizing domestic leagues Unequal distribution of funds among cricket boards Lack of loyalty to national teams On the same, Lara said, "The truth is, I don't think the West Indies Cricket Board or the administration has done anything meaningful to keep players loyal to West Indies cricket, unlike what boards in countries like England, Australia, or even India have done." Fast bowler Anshul Kamboj added as cover for India's tour of England

Fast bowler Anshul Kamboj has been added to the Test squad for India's ongoing tour of England after Arshdeep Singh was ruled out for the fourth Test in Manchester because of a deep cut on his bowling hand. Kamboj, 24, was part of the India A side, which played two three-day games last month. He took five wickets in the two games. The fast bowler impressed everyone with his speed and tight line. He has taken 79 wickets in 24 first class games for Haryana. 'Arshdeep has a deep cut and has had stitches, he will take at least ten days to get completely fit. The selectors have decided to add Kamboj in the squad,' a BCCI source said. The 26-year old Arshdeep had suffered a cut on his bowling hand during a nets session on Thursday while stopping a ball hit by Sai Sudharsan on his follow-through. The hand was stitched up and it's now unlikely he will be fit to play in the fourth Test. The suspense still remains on Akash Deep's availability as he is struggling with a groin niggle. Akash Deep didn't bowl in a nets session organised by the Indian team before leaving for Manchester. ALSO READ | Spotlight on Akash Deep as India mull pace combination for do-or-die Test against England Arshdeep hasn't been entrusted with a spot yet in Tests but if the team management chooses to rest one of the pacers, he was in the running to make his debut. India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate had said: 'Arshdeep took a ball while he was bowling there, Sai hit a ball and he tried to stop it and it's just a cut. So we have to see how bad the cut is. Obviously, the medical team have taken him off to see a doctor and obviously, if he needs stitches or doesn't need stitches it's going to be important to our planning for the next few days.' On day 4 of the third Test at Lord's, in the 28th over of the England innings, Akash Deep left for the dressing room after feeling discomfort. With the team physio by his side, the pacer held his waist and grimaced. The 28-year-old has had a history of injuries that sidelined him in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024 and also in the 2025 IPL season. After being treated in the dressing room, the pacer returned to the field but didn't bowl that day. The tourists are already faced with concerns over the injury to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. He was struck on the index finger of his left hand as he attempted to collect a Jasprit Bumrah delivery that flew down the leg side during England's first innings on Day 1 of the Lord's Test. Pant was in visible pain and did not keep wickets for the rest of the Test. The Indian team will play its fourth Test match in Manchester which is scheduled to kick off from July 23.

'Playing With Us Jhulu Di': India, Jhulan Goswami Aim For England ODI Whitewash

Last Updated: Jhulan Goswami hopes India sweeps the ODI series 3-0 against England. Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues shared memories with her ahead of the second ODI. Ahead of the second ODI against England at Lord's, veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami wants the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side to sweep the 50-over series 3-0 after winning the opening encounter by four wickets in Southampton. The visiting side has already proved their potential by winning their first-ever T20I series against England by 4-2 last week. Ahead of their second ODI, Harmanpreet and Jemimah Rodrigues had a video call with the former pacer from the Lord's and shared their memories of playing together at the venue. 'So good to see you again. Guess where we are," Harmanpreet and Jemimah said in unison in a video posted by BCCI Women on X. 'We miss you Jhulu di," Jemimah said. 'Same here, I'm also missing you guys, I wish I was there watching this game from the stands," Jhulan replied. Jemimah quickly responded, 'Not watching but playing with us, Jhulu di" to which all of them shared a laugh. Continuing the conversation, India captain said, 'We will miss your Lord's spell tomorrow." 'I'm gonna miss you guys. It was a great memory. We won 3-0 for the first time in England. I hope you guys do that same. Repeat that same. You've got great momentum on your side," Jhulan said. Goswami, regarded as one of India's finest fast bowlers, brought the curtain down on her illustrious career at Lord's in September 2022, taking two wickets in a victorious ODI against England to sweep the series 3-0 for the first time on English soil. With the momentum on India's side following their historic T20I series win and win in the opening ODI, the hopes of repeating 2022 heroics are very much achievable for the touring team. The second ODI is set to be played at Lord's on Saturday. (With IANS Inputs) view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
