Kerry SFL: Jack Savage dozen sees Kerins O'Rahillys join Austin Stacks at top of Division 1

On an emotional evening in Strand Road on Friday, Kerins O'Rahillys moved back up to join Austin Stacks at the top of Division One after a two-point win over Ballymacelligott in this re-arranged round 8 fixture. The game had been deferred due to the tragic death of 18-year-old Luke Silles, a member of the Ballymacelligott GAA club, who lost his life in a swimming accident.

Kerry Club SHC: Diarmuid O'Connor stars for Na Gaeil in Tralee derby victory over Stacks

Kerry Club SFC group 1, round 2: Na Gaeil 1-15 Austin Stacks 1-12 Inspired by Oisín Maunsell and Diarmuid O'Connor, Na Gaeil delivered a strong performance to earn an opening win in the Kerry Senior Club Football Championship, defeating their Tralee neighbours Austin Stacks in Killeen. Maunsell, who was part of the Abbeydorney team that lifted the Kerry senior hurling title at the beginning of the month, bagged 1-2 coming off the bench in the opening half. Diarmuid O'Connor, joined by his former Kerry midfield partner in Jack Barry, oozed class for his side, delivering two majestic two-pointers to keep the scoreboard ticking. It was a physical contest between the neighbours, the men from Killeen and Connolly Park both showed intensity right from the first whistle, and while Stacks did start the brighter, Na Gaeil produced a spirited comeback in an absorbing contest that swung dramatically after the opening quarter. Stacks were the sharper side early on, with Paddy Lane and Sean Quilter both landing two-pointers inside the first six minutes to establish a 0-4 to 0-0 lead. Na Gaeil did have a goal chance in the third minute but Ronan Shanahan was on hand to make a vital block. Aside from that, the hosts struggled to settle, but points from the returning Barry and James O'Connor kept them in touch. Joe O'Connor's fine two-point effort cutting in from the right wing pushed Stacks four clear again in the 23rd minute, but the game's complexion changed almost instantly. Oisín Maunsell rifled a shot to the roof of the Stacks goal before Enda O'Connor and Kieran O'Connor added points to put Na Gaeil ahead for the first time in the 27th minute. Maunsell struck again just before half-time, however a two-pointer free from Quilter levelled the tie deep into stoppage time, 1-6 to 0-9 at the break. Na Gaeil restarted strongly, with Diarmuid O'Connor, Devine (free), and Enda O'Connor firing over in quick succession to move the Killeen men 1-9 to 0-9 ahead. Stacks rallied through Armin Heinrich and goalkeeper Michael Tansley's 45, but a superb two-pointer from Diarmuid O'Connor kept Na Gaeil in control. Jack Sheehan extended the gap for Na Gaeil before things got worse for Stacks with ten minutes left. Dylan Casey was shown a second yellow card for a coming together with Diarmuid O'Connor. Stacks, down to 14, looked to regroup. Quilter's close range fisted effort reduced the margin, yet Maunsell continued his impact from the bench with another score. A dramatic finish followed when Daniel Kirby's attempt at a point under pressure found Quilter close to goal, and he hit the net to leave just a single point between the sides with 58 minutes elapsed. However, Na Gaeil had the final say, with Diarmuid O'Connor landing his second two-pointer in the closing stages to seal a big win, blowing the group wide open. Armin Heinrich shines as Austin Stacks lay down marker against Templenoe

Kerry Senior Club Football Championship: Austin Stacks 1-18 Templenoe 1-5 With their entire tally coming from open play, Austin Stacks laid down a serious marker to all future opponents with an impressive victory over Templenoe in this Kerry senior club FC (Group 1) opener at Connolly Park in Tralee. On their return to the Kingdom's top club table after intermediate glory last season, Darragh Long's side built up a seven-point lead by the interval (0-9 to 0-2), and never looked back thereafter, against a visiting outfit who couldn't deal with their intensity levels. The Rockies were ravenous for turnovers from beginning to end and, when you consider that Kerry hero Joe O'Connor was only introduced for the second half, and that key figures like Jack O'Shea and Joey Nagle were absent, Stacks are likely to improve as the weeks go on. Kingdom squad member Armin Heinrich was simply magnificent, raiding forward from defence at every opportunity, and his five-point haul was, undoubtedly, what stood out. Growing from his involvement with Jack O'Connor's All-Ireland champions, he is primed for further development. Paddy Lane wasn't far behind his team-mate. The Kerry U20 forward operated in a much deeper playmaking role on this occasion, but it didn't restrict his scoring potential. His total of 1-4, including the game-clinching goal in the 50th minute, were all converted with aplomb. Templenoe, despite plenty of hard graft from the likes of Tadhg Morley and Gavin Crowley, were given an early second half lifeline by a thundering Adrian Spillane green flag. However, with Killian Spillane suffering from a lack of supply, and the close attention of Dylan Casey, they struggled for penetration. Lane's goal, created by O'Connor and Luke Casey, made it a nine-point game (1-12 to 1-3) entering the last ten minutes, and there was no way back for the visitors. Austin Stacks were able to utilize their bench to good effect, with another young gun in Daniel Kirby adding two points. With nine different players on the scoresheet by the game's conclusion, the winners will be more than satisfied with their collective work. A Tralee derby with Na Gaeil next weekend will whet the appetite even further on Rock Street. Scorers for Austin Stacks: P Lane 1-4 (1tp), A Heinrich 0-5, S Quilter (tp), D Kirby 0-2 each, R Shanahan, D O'Brien, S O'Callaghan, E Carroll, F Mangan 0-1 each.
