KUANTAN: A total of 200 participants took part in the 'Jom Plogging – Saya Sayang Bumi' programme organised by Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora) at Pantai Cherok Paloh, which was aimed at fostering a love for the environment.
Alam Flora's chief operating officer, Mohamad Muhazni Mukhtar, said the initiative sought to raise awareness across all segments of society about the harmful effects of littering on marine habitats and the natural ecosystem.
'We chose this location as we have already carried out clean-up efforts at several beaches, including Pantai Sepat, Pantai Cempaka and Pantai Tanjung Gosong.
'As Pantai Cherok Paloh gained popularity and attracted more visitors, we felt compelled to expand our efforts here,' he told reporters yesterday, Bernama reported.
Participants included local residents, representatives from the Lion Group, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) and scouts from nearby schools.
As part of the event, Alam Flora also led the planting of 150 saplings along the coastline to support reforestation and coastal restoration efforts.
Mohamad Muhazni emphasised that maintaining the cleanliness of tourist areas requires active participation from the public, not just the authorities.
Kuantan City Council secretary, Mohd Nizam Mahayuddin, echoed this view and encouraged the community to carry rubbish tongs and bags when visiting beaches and other tourist spots.
'If everyone adopts the practice of cleaning as we go, with God's blessings, we can significantly reduce the litter problem, even if we cannot eliminate it,' he said.
He also expressed appreciation for the contribution of 150 saplings from the Pahang Forestry Department and thanked Alam Flora for its ongoing dedication to environmental conservation.

Full Enforcement On Fire Certificate For Designated Premises To Begin In 2026

JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Full enforcement on premises required to obtain a Fire Certificate (FC) will begin in the first quarter of 2026, says Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) deputy director-general (operations) Datuk Ahmad Izram Othman. He stressed that premises failing to comply after the enforcement date could face legal action. "Premises that still fail to obtain the FC after full enforcement may be fined up to RM50,000, or face five years' imprisonment, or both," he told reporters after officiating the Johor-level Fire Safety Organisation (OKK) Seminar here today. Also present were Johor JBPM director Siti Rohani Nadir and State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor. The move is part of the government's effort to tighten fire safety aspects for Designated Premises, which include nine categories: libraries; hospitals and care centres; hotels; hostels and dormitories; offices; shops; factories; places of assembly; and storage facilities. He said to date, a total of 9,321 premises nationwide had been classified as premises required to obtain the FC, with 5,881 already holding the certificate. Johor recorded the highest number, with 2,288 premises categorised as Designated Premises that must have the FC, which must be renewed annually. "Johor has shown significant growth due to many new developments. All premises that receive the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) from local authorities must register for the FC," he said. According to him, 2025 will serve as a year of education and awareness, including seminars and training sessions for premises owners.

Kelantan PMR 2025: 'Bas Mekar' Eases Public Access To NRD Services

KOTA BHARU, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Making its services more accessible and convenient, the National Registration Department (NRD) has brought its 'Bas Mekar' mobile unit to the Kelantan MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here. Among the services offered are identity card applications for children aged 12, replacement of damaged or lost identity cards, change of address, printing of MyKad chip information, and extraction of marriage registration details. According to a Kelantan NRD spokesperson, other services provided include the registration and extraction of birth and death certificates, as well as MyKid applications. He said the mobile service was available from 9 am to 6 pm, with each application taking about 30 minutes to complete. 'This identity card application is open to all Malaysian citizens applying for the first time, especially children aged 12,' he told Bernama at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here today. Meanwhile, Mohd Shahir Khassin, 38, from Pengkalan Chepa, said he took the opportunity to renew his identity card after experiencing a chip malfunction during a recent transaction. 'With the NRD Bas Mekar, things are much easier and time-saving. I only had to wait about 30 minutes to complete the process, compared to dealing directly at the NRD office,' he said. Another visitor, Noraini Mat Isa, 35, from Tumpat, shared a positive experience after successfully registering the birth of her three-week-old baby. 'I'm very grateful I didn't have to go all the way to the NRD office, which is quite far from my home. Everything was done quickly and the staff were very helpful. This kind of service is really convenient for people in rural areas like me,' she said.
