High-End Halal Chain Meat Moot Is Coming to Seattle
Meat Moot is obviously centered around its meats, which are slowly smoked on wood and then chopped and seasoned by line chefs who perform made-for-Instagram flourishes with knives and blowtorches (they got training at the Chicago location, says Dalyrmple). The cuts of lamb and beef will sell for around $47 a pound, according to a menu on the Seattle Meat Moot website. What sets Meat Moot apart from some of the other high-end international chains that have shown up in the Seattle metro area recently is that it is entirely halal. That means no pork and no alcohol — Dalrymple says that there will be a bar with nonalcoholic drinks, which is what a growing number of diners seem to prefer over cocktails anyway.
A Green Lake dive is fighting to stay open
The Little Red Hen, a 92-year-old bar known for hosting live country music and line dancing, may soon have to close because of a dispute with its landlord, reports the Seattle Times. According to the paper, the disagreement stems from landlord Ruoxi Zhang's ending an informal agreement between Hen owner Dominic Shim and a neighboring bar that allowed the two businesses to split trash collection costs. In response to this change, which Shim said would cost the Hen $40,000 a year, Shim fired off a late-night 'emotional' email to Zhang, who then issued a notice to terminate the month-to-month lease. Shim wants to stay, and Zhang told the Times that 'I remain hopeful that the situation can be resolved peacefully — including if the tenant is willing to discuss a future lease respectfully and in good faith.' If an agreement isn't reached, the Hen will have to leave at the end of July.
Voodoo Doughnut is expanding to the Eastside
Less than a year after opening a Seattle location, the quirky Portland-based chain Voodoo Doughnut is already expanding across Lake Washington. The Puget Sound Business Journal reports that Voodoo has started work converting a former Rudy's Barbershop in downtown Bellevue into its latest shop. 'We're excited to bring Voodoo to Bellevue' Voodoo CEO Chris Schultz said in a press release. 'The city has a great energy and a strong sense of community that fits perfectly with our brand. We can't wait to share our doughnuts and a little bit of magic with everyone in the area.'
Food with a side of violin
The Tasting Notes series from the Seattle Chamber Music Society is back for a second year. This is an event hosted by violinist James Ehnes and James Beard Award–winning author-slash-overall-food-guy J. Kenji López-Alt. For one night only (July 25), guests can watch some of Seattle's top chefs silently prepare dishes while listening to live classical music. This year the chefs include boldfaced names like Renee Erickson (the Walrus and the Carpenter, among other restaurants), Lee Kindell (Moto Pizza), Kelly Van Arsdale (Spinnaker Chocolate), Kevin Smith (Beast and Cleaver), and Food Network star Shota Nakajima. Tickets are $65, and include access to a Spinnaker 'chocolate experience' and an afterparty with Moto pizza. For more information, go here.

Transocean Q2 Earnings & Sales Surpass Estimates, Improve Y/Y
Transocean Ltd. RIG reported second-quarter 2025 breakeven adjusted earnings per share in contrast to the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of 1 cent. The bottom line also improved from the year-ago period's reported loss of 15 cents. This improvement can be attributed to a strong second-quarter result from RIG's segments. This Switzerland-based offshore drilling powerhouse's total adjusted revenues of $988 million beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $968 million. The top line also increased 14.8% from the prior-year figure of $861 million. This was due to higher-than-expected revenues from ultra-deepwater and harsh environment floaters. Ultra-deepwater and harsh environment revenues beat the consensus mark of $690 million and $257 million, respectively. Transocean Ltd. Price and EPS Surprise Transocean Ltd. price-eps-surprise | Transocean Ltd. Quote Transocean's Segmental Revenue Breakup Transocean's ultra-deepwater floaters contributed 70.7% to net contract drilling revenues, while harsh environment floaters accounted for the remaining 29.3%. Guidance for Transocean For the third quarter of 2025, the company expects contract drilling revenues between $1 billion and $1.02 billion, including $60 million to $70 million from additional services and reimbursable expenses. General and administrative expenses are expected to be between $50 million and $55 million. Net cash interest expense is anticipated to be approximately $136 million, indicating $143 million in interest expense and $7 million in interest income. Capital expenditures are estimated at $25 million to $30 million and cash taxes paid are expected to total around $16 million. Cash taxes paid are expected to range from $70 million to $75 million. The company also expects year-end liquidity of $1.45 billion to $1.55 billion, which includes the impact of cost-saving initiatives, an undrawn revolving credit facility and approximately $440 million in restricted cash. Additionally, the company remains on track to reduce debt by more than $700 million in 2025. Important Energy Earnings at a Glance While it is early in the earnings season, there have been a few key energy releases so far. Let us glance through a couple of them. San Antonio, TX-based oil and gas refining and marketing service provider, Valero Energy Corporation VLO, reported second-quarter 2025 adjusted earnings of $2.28 per share, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.73. However, the bottom line declined from the year-ago quarter's level of $2.71. The better-than-expected quarterly results can be attributed to an increase in refining margins per barrel of throughput and lower total cost of sales. The positives were partially offset by a decline in refining throughput volumes and renewable diesel sales volumes. The company had cash and cash equivalents of $4.5 billion at the end of the second quarter. As of June 30, 2025, it had a total debt of $8.4 billion and finance-lease obligations of $2.3 billion. Houston, TX-based oil and gas equipment and services provider, Halliburton Company HAL, reported second-quarter 2025 adjusted net income of 55 cents per share, which was in line with the Zacks Consensus Estimate but below the year-ago quarter's profit of 80 cents (adjusted). The numbers reflect softer activity in the North American region, partly offset by international growth. As of June 30, 2025, the company had approximately $2 billion in cash/cash equivalents and $7.2 billion in long-term debt, representing a debt-to-capitalization ratio of 40.4. Halliburton reported second-quarter capital expenditure of $354 million, up from our projection of $338.2 million. Norway-based integrated oil and gas operator, Equinor ASA EQNR, reported second-quarter 2025 adjusted earnings per share of 64 cents, which missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 66 cents. The bottom line declined 25% from the year-ago quarter's level of 84 cents. Weak quarterly results can be attributed to lower liquids production across major segments and reduced liquids prices. Natural declines and portfolio divestments in Nigeria and Azerbaijan also contributed to the decrease in overall production. As of June 30, 2025, the company reported $9,472 million in cash and cash equivalents. Its long-term debt was $24,505 million. During the same time, Equinor generated a negative net cash flow of $2,579 million compared with $4,022 million in the year-ago period. Equinor's capital expenditures amounted to $3.4 billion in the second quarter. Want the latest recommendations from Zacks Investment Research? Heartflow raises $316.7 million in US IPO as medtech listings attempt comeback
By Ateev Bhandari and Pritam Biswas (Reuters) -Medical technology firm Heartflow said on Thursday it had raised $316.7 million in its U.S. initial public offering, setting the stage for its Nasdaq debut in another test of investor appetite for medical tech companies. The Mountain View, California-based company sold 16.67 million shares at $19 each, compared with a targeted range of $17 to $18 apiece. It upsized its offering and raised the proposed range earlier this week reflecting strong demand. The IPO valued the company at $1.54 billion. U.S. IPOs have picked up pace in a much-awaited recovery, as solid tech earnings and progress on trade deals have helped restore investor confidence. Strong recent debuts mark a reversal from early April, when uncertainty around U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs paused dealmaking. Heartflow's stock will begin trading on the Nasdaq on Friday under the "HTFL" ticker symbol. The closing of the offering is expected on August 11. J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley and Piper Sandler are the lead underwriters for the offering. Following software firm Figma's blowout debut last week, analysts expect companies with a compelling growth story to be welcomed by the public markets. "We expect Heartflow to be well received at launch, especially following Figma's breakout success, which has helped reset sentiment toward high-growth names," IPOX CEO Josef Schuster said. Bain Capital-backed Heartflow leverages AI to create 3D models of the heart via a single specialized scan, improving detection and treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD). As AI gains widespread acceptance, companies embedding it into workflows for meaningful use cases are catching investor attention, with the technology powering gains across various Big Tech businesses. Heartflow's revenue grew 39% for the quarter ended March 31 from a year earlier. Its platform to detect CAD was used in 132,000 patients in 2024. Sign in to access your portfolio
