Nagpur: Dr Sameer Arbat, a renowned interventional pulmonologist in Central India, added another significant milestone to his career by presenting two original research papers at the prestigious American Thoracic Society (ATS) International Conference 2025 held in San Francisco, USA from May 16 to May 25.
Dr Arbat presented two research papers including one on allergy testing and a rare case of airway stenting and removal conducted at One Healthcare. Both research papers were presented in collaboration with Dr Irfan Rahman, associate dean, Rochester University, New York. His research presentations were based on clinical advancements and innovations in interventional pulmonology, reflecting the growing capabilities of Indian medical research on the global stage.
Dr Arbat showcased his contributions to cutting-edge pulmonary research on a global platform that draws thousands of clinicians, researchers, and thought leaders from around the world.
Recognising his outstanding contributions and potential for international collaboration, Dr Arbat was selected as the Social Media Ambassador for this event by the Asia-Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR) and awarded a Registration Grant of $750 USD.

The grant is awarded to a select few young researchers and clinicians from the Asia-Pacific region who show promise in advancing respiratory medicine.
Dr Arbat, currently the president of Media Committee of World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (WABIP) became a member of the Society for Advanced Bronchoscopy (SAB) USA.
Commenting on the honour, Dr Arbat said, "It is a privilege to represent India and the Asia-Pacific region at such a prestigious scientific forum.
The American Thoracic Society Conference is one of the largest gathering of respiratory clinicians and researchers. Being able to present my work and exchange ideas with some of the best minds in the field is truly inspiring."
Dr Arbat's achievements mark yet another proud moment for Nagpur and the Indian pulmonary fraternity, reinforcing the importance of global engagement and innovation in healthcare.
Dr Sameer Arbat has performed more than 1,000 interventional pulmonology procedures including EBUS, Cryobiopsy, Rigid Bronchoscopy, Airway Stenting and Thoracoscopy.

Critical care centre project at Madikeri dist hosp resumes after delay
Madikeri: The delayed project of establishing a critical care centre at Madikeri District Hospital has picked up pace. The Rs 29.6 crore project is expected to be completed by the end of the year and will extend emergency medical care services to the residents. In 2022-23, a critical care centre project was sanctioned for the district hospital in Madikeri. The centre was to be built on 45 cents within the hospital premises, with the project promising completion by this year. However, the project encountered a hurdle from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). According to archaeological guidelines, no construction work is permitted within 300 metres of protected monuments, and in this case, Madikeri Fort is located within 250 metres of the construction site. Consequently, the construction work was stopped abruptly due to this violation. Nevertheless, a non-objection certificate (NOC) has now been obtained from Delhi, and work has resumed. The critical care centre will have improved facilities to address emergency medical services. A proposal to the state for Rs 6.5 crore funds has been forwarded for the purchase of equipment for the centre," confirmed Dr Lokesh, dean of Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences (KoIMS). 100 vacancies at centre While the district hospital is being equipped with modern amenities, the acute staff shortage, with over 100 vacancies at the centre, is still hindering proper medical care for the citizens. However, Dr Lokesh confirmed that 19 doctors have been appointed on a temporary basis to address the shortage. "Priority will be given to attend to emergencies immediately. Further, the critical care centre will have ultrasound, ECO, dialysis, and other services readily available to the patients," he added. Vadodara shines in NEET-PG 2025, four in top 100
Vadodara/Ahmedabad: Vadodara students put up an impressive performance in the NEET-PG 2025, with at least four securing ranks in the top 100 and over a dozen figuring under the top 1,000, as per the results announced late on Tuesday by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences. Girls clearly outperformed boys in this year's results. "We have at least a dozen students from our college who have bagged All India Rank (AIR) under 1,000, and we are still counting," said Dr Ranjan Aiyer, dean of Medical College Baroda. Among the toppers, Hirak Agrawal bagged AIR 17, Anjali Kumari AIR 25, Gopit AIR 41, and Avani Patel AIR 85. "I was expecting a rank under 1,000, but I did not imagine such a good score," said Hirak, whose father Keshav is a businessman and mother Rajni, a homemaker told TOI. "This rank has opened many options, and I'll decide after proper consultation." Hirak had consistently remained among the top five during MBBS. This year, nearly 2.40 lakh candidates nationwide registered for NEET-PG, with 13,000 students from Gujarat taking the exam across 17 cities. Notably, the results were declared within just 16 days of the examination. Currently, Gujarat has around 2,800 postgraduate medical seats. However, sources indicate the possibility of 900 more seats for the 2025-26 academic year as both govt and private colleges have sought approval for new courses and seat expansions. Cabinet approves setting up of electronic manufacturing hub
Bhopal: The state cabinet, headed by CM Mohan Yadav, on Tuesday approved the establishment of an Electronic Manufacturing Cluster at Bandikhedi village, Berasia tehsil in Bhopal district, under the govt of India's EMC 2.0 project. Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, the minister for urban administration, Kailash Vijayvargiya, said, "This is a major achievement of our govt. We required a centre for research and development of electronic manufacturing." The cluster will promote the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector with world-class infrastructure and Common Facility Centres (CFCs). "For the project, 210.21 acres of land were allocated, and approval was granted for a total project cost of Rs 371.95 crore, of which Rs 146.63 crore will come as the central share and Rs 225.32 crore from the state," Vijayvargiya said. A state govt release stated, "The EMC 2.0 scheme will play a key role in realising the vision of Digital India and Make in India, besides providing upgraded technical infrastructure, common facilities, and a strong base for the electronics industry. The govt approved 1,570 posts for these ayurvedic centres. Each division in the state will now have one Ayurvedic Medical College, strengthening Ayurveda-based healthcare and the wellness industry, the minister said. The colleges will be funded under the National AYUSH Mission, with an allocation of Rs 70 crore for each ayurvedic college, totalling Rs 350 crore, to be paid in a 60:40 ratio between the Centre and the state. Each campus will include a college building, a 100-bed hospital, hostels for boys and girls, residential quarters, and a pharmacy building as per prescribed standards. The cabinet approved the establishment of a Department of Endocrinology at Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, along with 20 new posts, including one professor, one associate professor, two senior residents, and two junior residents. In yet another decision, the cabinet decided to provide scholarships for 12 months instead of 10 months for mess facilities in tribal hostels operated under the Tribal Welfare Department. The scholarships, based on student attendance, currently stand at Rs 1,650 per month for boys and Rs 1,700 per month for girls. The council of ministers approved the 'Geeta Bhavan' scheme to promote reading, cultural and literary activities, and provide well-equipped study centres in urban local bodies. "Chief Minister Mohan Yadav wants one Geeta Bhavan to be established in every district, which we want to be completed in the next five years," Kailash Vijayvargiya claimed. The scheme will run from 2025-26 to 2029-30. The state govt will provide financial support for the construction, expansion, and maintenance of 'Geeta Bhavans'. On Tuesday, the cabinet decided to complete the liquidation of Morena Division Cooperative Sugar Factory, Kailaras, and transfer its 22.34 hectares of land to the govt. The factory will be handed over to the MSME department for the development of employment-based industries in Morena district. An amount of approximately Rs 61 crore will be provided through the MSME department to settle dues of employees, farmers, and other liabilities. Plant and machinery will be sold through a transparent process by the Department of Public Asset Management, the state govt said. The sugar factory, registered in 1965, remained non-functional due to irrigation issues, a shortage of sugarcane, and managerial reasons, and was closed since 2008-09 with accumulated liabilities of Rs 54.81 crore.
