Jet2 voiceover woman is actually a soap star and fans are 'rocked to the core'

Daily Mirror6 days ago
Jess Glynne isn't the only celeb who features on the Jet2 adverts and fans of Hollyoaks, Midsomer Murders and Staff Room will certainly recognise the voice when they're told!
TV viewers have been 'rocked to their core' after discovering that the cheery Jet2 holidays voiceover woman is a former soap star.
The incessant ads - which famously push bargain deals to the soundtrack of Jess Glynne 's hit song Hold My Hand - have been running for years, but many have only just learned who is informing us about the offers. The lady who is enthusiastically telling is that 'nothing beats a Jet2 holiday' is Zoe Lister, a former regular on Hollyoaks.

She played Zoe Carpenter on the Channel 4 soap from 2006 to 2010, before making a brief return in April 2017. Now she's got a very different life, and earns cash by telling us all about the sun-soaked trips would could be taking. The 43-year-old actress has also had roles in Midsomer Murders and Staff Room.

It all came to light after That's TV Thames Valley interviewed her this weekend. On X they wrote: "A Maidenhead woman has become a viral sensation as hundreds of thousands of people use her voice in social media videos. That's TV spoke with Zoë Lister, the voice of the Jet2 promotion video, advertising package holidays."
Fans were quick to release where they knew her from, and she explained how the the voiceover work was initially only for a 'small campaign' which begun during the Love Island partnership four years ago. She said: "I was just employed to do the bumpers, like, something to do with 'Get a flight if you enter this competition', that sort of thing.

"Then they were like, 'Oh, actually, we'll have your voice for the whole campaign'. And that's just been rolling ever since every year, which has been incredible. It feels like silly joy, which is what people need right now, I think. It's not serious, it's light hearted.'
"It feels so bizarre, but I do love it, because people are sending me videos all the time,' she said. 'I love the creativity. People are just really funny. For the next generation, the generation Z that has made it what it is, it reminds them of days gone by adverts, when they were little."

The responses showed the shock from fans. "I'm sorry – Zoe Carpenter from Hollyoaks is *the* Jet2 lady!? Did we all know this??" one wrote as another put: '"This revelation has rocked me to my core." A third person said: "The woman from the most iconic parachute jump scene in living history? Oh my daysssss."
Fans of Jess who have flown with the budget airline will also know they play the song on repeat before takeoff, to the annoyance of many passengers. But the singer from London mocked her own tune by posing a video to Twitter from her performance at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in 2023.
The 35-year-old captioned the video: "Who's ready for me to ruin their summer holiday?". Filmed by someone in the crowd, the clip shows Jess on stage saying: "Welcome to Jess Glynne Airways," before she goes into the intro of Hold My Hand, to massive cheers from the crowd.

Coronation Street Mick actor Joe Layton 'set for Hollywood' after ITV soap exit

Coronation Street actor Joe Layton has played the role of Mick Michaelis on the cobbles since earlier this year but could soon be switching Weatherfield for Hollywood Coronation Street's Joe Layton, known for his role as the menacing Mick Michaelis, could be on the brink of a major Hollywood breakthrough. Joe burst onto the scene earlier this year as the ruthless thug Mick, alongside his partner Lou (Farrel Hegarty). ‌ Labelled as "nightmare neighbours," the pair quickly became notorious for causing chaos. In a shocking turn of events in May, Mick brutally murdered Weatherfield's beloved Craig Tinker ( Colson Smith) in a harrowing alcohol-fuelled attack. ‌ It was then revealed that he also regularly abused Lou adding to the disdain for his character from viewers who were shocked to see how truly evil he was capable of being. After Craig's tragic end, Mick found himself behind bars. However, this week saw an explosive development as he broke free from custody. ‌ In a desperate search for his child, Mick stabbed Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) before being caught again and sent back to prison. Now, with Mick's time on the cobbles drawing to a close, speculation is rife about actor Joe's next move with his frantic on-screen demeanour capturing the imagination of TV fans. Betway has provided odds on his next step that place Joe at a not too shabby 3/1 to hop over to rival soap EastEnders. But that isn't the only soap where he could show up, as Joe is also sitting at 5/1 to land a role on Channel 4's Hollyoaks. ‌ When it comes to reality TV prospects, he's got odds of 8/1 for I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! and 10/1 for Strictly Come Dancing where fans would get to learn more about him as opposed to his on-screen alter ego Mick. But it's not just small screen opportunities on the horizon for Joe. He could find himself making his way into the cinematic universe too. Bookies are betting that the big screen could come knocking and he might snag a role in a blockbuster Hollywood franchise. Joe currently stands at 16/1 to appear in a Marvel film, and 50/1 to potentially become the next James Bond. ‌ Mike Reading, spokesperson at Betway told the Daily Star: "After playing brutal villain Mick Michaelis on Coronation Street, Joe Layton is now a 3/1 shot to bring his bad-boy energy to EastEnders. "Having made headlines for his character's violent past and dramatic prison escape, Layton looks ready-made for the gritty world of Albert Square – pub bust-ups, family feuds, and a shady market hustle would suit him down to the ground! "Other potential next moves include jetting out to the jungle for I'm a Celeb (8/1), joining Strictly (10/1), or even a Marvel comeback (16/1) after previously starring in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but it's East London where punters think he's most likely to land next." Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

Hollyoaks' Rex actor Jonny Labey reacts to Clare twist and teases soap future

The Mirror spoke exclusively with Hollyoaks' Rex Gallagher actor Jonny Labey and Jacob Omari star Ethaniel Davy about the return of Clare Devine, their emotional storyline and what's ahead We got the lowdown on Hollyoaks villain Clare Devine from two co-stars working closely with actress Gemma Bissix currently on the Channel 4 soap. ‌ Clare made her big return months ago, as part of a dark trafficking storyline involving other characters and some of the teenagers in the village. Clare's sister Grace black and half-brother Rex Gallagher were also caught up in the drama, with us soon learning all about Rex's past and backstory. ‌ Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Rex actor Jonny Labey praised the move to explore what Rex faced when he was younger, and how it shaped him - leading to him taking a criminal path. Jonny discussed how fans finally saw why he was the way he was, calling him "a product of his environment". ‌ He added how Rex's "unexpected" romance with Ste Hay changed things, and gave Rex something to push for. That said, Jonny loves the drama his role brings, and was thrilled to get to work with co-star Gemma as she made her comeback. He wasn't the only one as newcomer Ethaniel Davy, whose character Jacob Omari took centre stage in the sad trafficking plot, also shared how much he loved working with the soap icon. Jonny shared: "Another long-lost sister! It's honestly the best working with Gemma. ‌ "She is such a joy, she brings such a bouncy energy to set. She gets stuck in to storylines, she holds no prisoners, she's just a ruthless and fantastic character. It really brings in that female power character to the show." Ethaniel agreed: "Gemma is so lovely. Clare can be sympathetic as well though. She's not just pure evil, she has a soft side and a bit of a backstory, and she has another side to her. Sometimes she's got the wrong intentions but for the right reasons." Actor Ethaniel was thrilled to rejoin the show recently, having first joined earlier in the year. He told us: "It's definitely a new experience for me. It's lovely, I've enjoyed it. ‌ "It's great and I am very grateful. We've just got to see how the storyline goes!" On the fans backing his character, he went on: "It was lovely because to get the role was a big thing, and then it was brilliant to keep going after a few months of not working. "I got called back, and so getting good feedback was great to hear." He also praised co-star Jonny for "showing him the ropes" and looking after him on set. ‌ As for Jonny, he welcomed the changes to his character as fans have gotten to see a different side to him. He told us: "You have got this thing with Rex where he is a product of his environment and unfortunately, even since doing the storyline, the sex trafficking storyline, it's way more common than people realise. "It seems like such a wild storyline but it's something that affects so many people in the UK, specifically the younger generation. It's that passed-on trauma. I'm glad we've got to see these sides to Rex now. "We can understand where it all comes form because when I first joined it was six months of arguments, fights and him being a villain. It was cool but he's got a nice undertone now. The love interest with Ste has taken him by surprise. ‌ "But it has shown him there is a way out from that life. I think that roundedness now is really beautiful to play. He still doesn't back down easy and he's not a push-around though. It is just a dream role honestly, to play a character like that. I have always wanted to play a troubled character with depth." His comments about Ste, and Rex turning his life around could be a hint at what's ahead with a happy future. But with Rex currently in prison, will he find a way back to the village?
