Jho Low reportedly hiding in Shanghai luxury mansion, say journalists
Low is allegedly using a forged Australian passport under the Greek name Constantinos Achilles Veis.
KUALA LUMPUR - Fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, is allegedly living in a luxury mansion in Shanghai under a fake identity, according to journalists who exposed the 1MDB scandal.
In a livestream titled 'Finding Jho Low', investigative duo Mr Bradley Hope and Mr Tom Wright claimed Low resides in Green Hills, an ultra-exclusive neighbourhood in Shanghai.
Citing evidence from multiple sources and newly obtained documents, they alleged Low is using a forged Australian passport under the Greek name Constantinos Achilles Veis.
The claim was also highlighted in a report by Variety.
Mr Hope and Mr Wright, who played key roles in uncovering the multi-billion dollar 1MDB financial scandal, said their investigation continues with fresh leads despite Low's long-standing disappearance.
An Interpol Red Notice was issued in 2018 against Low,
who is wanted in both Malaysia and the United States for allegedly masterminding the misappropriation of US$4.5 billion (S$5.78 billion) from the state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
Authorities in Malaysia have made repeated attempts to locate Low.

In 2024, then-inspector-general of police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said there were still no concrete leads on his whereabouts.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier acknowledged ongoing efforts to trace Low, including coordinating with enforcement agencies as a priority when he took office.
However, he also noted that the authorities were unable to confirm whether Low was in China.

'I cannot put her condition into words,' Ms Khan added. To aid Cammie's recovery, the caregivers introduced another young female camel named Callie. Callie's presence brought comfort to the injured Cammie, who tried standing on three legs for the first time after seeing her new companion. 'Cammie had been confined to her enclosure for almost four to five months before Callie arrived,' Ms Khan added. After treating the wound and completing initial rehabilitation, the shelter – Comprehensive Disaster Response Services (CDRS) Benji Project – arranged a prosthetic leg from a US-based firm so she could walk on all fours again. 'We don't force her to walk. After attaching the prosthetic leg, we wait about 15 to 20 minutes. Then she stands up on her own and walks slowly,' veterinarian Mr Hussain told AFP. Indonesia ferry fire kills five as hundreds rescued

The KM Barcelona 5 ferry was engulfed in flames off the coast of Sulawesi island, Indonesia's Maritime Security Agency said, just weeks after at least 19 people were killed when a ferry sank off the popular resort island of Bali . 'Five people were reported dead, two of whom have yet to be identified. Meanwhile, 284 people have been evacuated safely,' the agency, also known as Bakamla, said in a statement. The fire broke out at the ferry's stern as it was on its way to Manado, the capital of North Sulawesi province, with some passengers jumping overboard with life jackets, the statement said. Fishermen also helped evacuate the victims to nearby islands, the statement added. Those injured were taken to the nearest health facility, Bakamla added. The accident happened about one hour away from the resort town of Likupang, in the northern tip of Sulawesi, Manado search and rescue agency head, George Leo Mercy Randang, told AFP. Neither he nor Bakamla gave a cause for the fire. Marine accidents are a regular occurrence in the Southeast Asian archipelago of around 17,000 islands, in part due to lax safety standards or bad weather. The ferry sinking en route to Bali this month was attributed to bad weather. In March, a boat carrying 16 people capsized in rough waters off Bali, killing an Australian woman and injuring at least one other person. SINGAPORE - Following a nearly two-hour disruption to Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) services on July 19 , transport operator SMRT said that it had concluded on-site investigations the same evening. Its investigation revealed that the power fault 'shares a similar failure mode' to an earlier three-hour long service disruption on July 3 , said Mr Lam Sheau Kai, the president of SMRT Trains, in a July 20 statement on SMRT's Facebook page. All 13 BPLRT stations were affected during both service disruptions. 'Both incidents were linked to the newly installed Power Scada system, which is part of the ongoing LTA Power Renewal Project,' he said. The Power Scada system plays a key role in monitoring and controlling power distribution across the LRT line, enhancing the safety and reliability of train operations. The BPLRT Power Renewal Project is targeted for completion by end-2026. In both incidents, a fault in the system affected the Emergency Trip System (ETS), triggering a traction power trip across the entire network. 'The LTA project team is conducting a thorough investigation, including a full design review by the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) contractor to strengthen network stability and prevent further recurrence.
