Kansas City Chiefs DL George Karlaftis participates in the annual Sack Summit

USA Today9 hours ago
Offseason training goes beyond the league's scheduled workout program, as many players take advantage of opportunities to improve ahead of the new season. Kansas City Chiefs pass rusher George Karlaftis recently made his presence known amongst some of the best in his position group.
Karlaftis was one of 50 edge rushers to get invitations to the annual Sack Summit in Las Vegas. Similar to the efforts of Tight End University, the session has garnered a popular following among the gathering's star players, who represent their teams.
"History is a big part of our organization, Coach speaks; Clark Hunt has every year: It's about the history of the team and tradition and how important all of that is." Karlaftis told Brian Baldinger, "We are well aware of it, and we're trying to just keep elevating it every single year.
The Sack Summit is an annual gathering of the top NFL Pass Rushers. The two-day summit, traditionally held in June in Las Vegas, NV, offers a rare opportunity for players in the same position on different teams around the league to share their skills, knowledge, and techniques.
Since his rookie season in 2022, Katlaftis has had 32.5 sacks, including the postseason, and 208 pressures. Last season, he led the Chiefs with eight sacks and 61 pressures.

Travis Kelce dismisses claims he and Taylor Swift are 'seeking attention'

Travis Kelce is shaking off haters and doubling down on date nights with girlfriend Taylor Swift after the couple has been seen in public over the past week and received some online backlash for seeking attention. The Kansas City tight end talked to the podcast hosts of "Bussin' With The Boys" for 90 minutes about Chiefs' season expectations, NFL retirement, acting with Adam Sandler in the new "Happy Gilmore" sequel and his relationship with Swift. "Having fun with it man, being a couple," Kelce said about his relationship. "It gets thrown out there, like we're trying to seek attention every now and then, but it's like we're just enjoying life and having fun going to hockey games, kinda introducing her to some more of the sports world." What is Tight End University? What to know about annual Nashville summit after surprise Taylor Swift performance. While hosts Will Compton and Taylor Lewan talked about encounters they've had with some Swifties, Kelce stayed quiet for the remainder of the segment. The "Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?" host said the most unexpected thing to get used to while dating one of the biggest stars on the planet is the paparazzi. "That's probably the craziest part," he said, "like I'm just playing golf and all of a sudden in the trees there's a [bleeping] guy with a camera." Earlier in the broadcast Compton, who attended Tight End University in Nashville where Swift gave a surprise performance of "Shake It Off," said that all attendees had to be vetted and photos needed to go through approval before getting posted. "You can't post anything until it gets cleared," he said. Follow Bryan West, the USA TODAY Network's Taylor Swift reporter, on Instagram, TikTok and X as @BryanWestTV.

2 Texas A&M players earn Walter Camp preseason All-America honors

Texas A&M's leaders in the 2025 locker room include senior right guard Ar'maj Reed-Adams and junior linebacker Taurean York, who coach Mike Elko and his staff will depend on throughout the season before heading to the 2026 NFL Draft. This offseason, both players have increased their size and strength in the weight room and are considered two of the best players nationally at their respective positions. On Tuesday, it was revealed that Reed-Adams (second-team) and York (first-team) were the lone Aggies to receive preseason All-America honors, according to Walter Camp. As the two 2025 team captains, coupled with senior left tackle Trey Zuhn III, head into the new campaign, they have high expectations to thrive on both sides of the ball. Last season, York struggled out of the gate, but ended the year leading the team in tackles (82), 2.5 sacks, four pass breakups, his first career interception, and finishing second on the team with 9.5 sacks. A starter since his 2023 freshman season, the former three-star prospect has more than surpassed his recruiting ranking and is currently seen as a potential first-round draft pick. After transferring from Kansas last season, Reed-Adams settled in at right guard, bringing in vast experience with 43 appearances and 27 starts, and finished his first season with the Aggies as the top run blocker nationally. Considered the best overall player on the roster, EA Sports' College Football 26 video game features Reed-Adams as the program's highest-rated overall player with a grade of 93. Texas A&M will open the 2025 season against UTSA on Saturday, August 30 at 6 p.m. CT., and will air on ESPN.
