Will Rishabh Pant & Jasprit Bumrah Play In 4th Test Against England? Report Makes Shocking Claim

India.com3 days ago
India lost the Third test at Lord's against England by a narrow 22-run margin. The hosts now lead the series 2-1 with two games to be played in the ongoing Test series. With India trailing 1–2 in the five‑match Test series against England, winning the final two games has become vital. However, Jasprit Bumrah's participation for the Manchester Test remains uncertain until the toss. The star pacer was rested for workload management during the Edgbaston Test, and head coach Gautam Gambhir has confirmed that Bumrah will feature in only three matches in the series. With two matches left, fans are eager to know which one he'll sit out next.
Despite this, India captain Shubman Gill did not reveal Bumrah's status at the press conference on Monday, simply stating, 'You'll get to know soon.' Yet, according to Sky Sports, Bumrah is expected to play in the next Test starting July 23.
There were also concerns about Rishabh Pant after he suffered a finger injury during the first innings at Lord's. However, scans revealed that the injury isn't serious, and Pant is 'all but certain' to play at Old Trafford. Gill confirmed this, saying, 'Rishabh went for scans. There is no major injury, so he should be fine for the fourth Test in Manchester.' Dhruv Jurel kept in the whole match and Pant only came to bat.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan criticised the workload management approach, comparing Bumrah's situation to England captain Ben Stokes. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Pathan said:
'Ben Stokes bowled a 9.2‑over spell in the morning on Day 5. He is a 4D player. He bowls, bats, and even executes the crucial run out of Rishabh Pant—yet there's no talk of workload management when he bowls. But with India, it's different. Bumrah bowls five overs and then waits for Joe Root to come out, when you need to control the game. His workload was managed as he did not play at Edgbaston. When you're playing a match, there is no workload.'
In summary, Sky Sports reports that both Pant and Bumrah are fit and set to play in the fourth Test, which begins on July 23 in Manchester an important opportunity for India to level the series

'India Not Playing For Comeback But To Win Test Series vs England': Siddharth Kaul

Former India pacer Siddharth Kaul is set to represent the India Champions team at the ongoing World Championship of Legends in England. While he is enjoying his time back on the field with several former stars, Kaul remains closely connected with Indian cricket's current developments. Speaking about Shubman Gill, Kaul's tone turned nostalgic and proud, "I feel very proud. I remember when we used to play together, his jokes, his fun side, and even then, the maturity he showed in his batting. There were matches he won for Punjab that looked impossible. That kind of temperament doesn't go unnoticed." Gill, who has already captained India in three Test matches, winning one and losing two, has quickly emerged as a leader to watch. For Kaul, watching a young teammate rise to such heights evokes deep emotion. "We may not be able to express it fully, but I'm sure his parents will be the happiest." Kaul, who himself was a fast bowler, has also shared his thoughts on the current crop of Indian fast bowlers, especially the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, and newcomer Akash Deep. "The pace battery looks really strong," he noted. When Jasprit Bumrah missed the second Test match at Birmingham, it was the duo of Siraj and Akash Deep who demolished the English batting. "I would like to praise Siraj and Aakash Deep because they both showed a capability when their major seam bowler was absent due to some injuries or due to any circumstances. They have fulfilled the responsibility of taking care of the country and the responsibility of bowling outstandingly and I want that the more this pace battery will play matches for the country, the better it will be in the future," he said. Referring to Bumrah having faced back problems, Kaul said fast bowling puts demands on the body. "I believe that his injury is very threatening because when you bowl as a bowler, there is a lot of pressure on your body. You put 100 times more weight of your body on the ground when you jump. So, I don't want his future to be bad because of the injury on his back. Definitely, everyone wants Bumrah to play. Even Bumrah himself wants to play all the matches but it depends on how your body is functioning. Is your body giving you the feeling that you can give 110% in the morning? Because when you play matches, you won't see that your body is in pain or something is happening. You will eat painkillers and play matches." Kaul emphasized that while painkillers can get you through a game, it's the long-term effects that often haunt athletes later. "You might play through pain today, but what comes during your rest period is what can harm your life," he added, On the Indian team's comeback in the Test series against England as the hosts are leading 2-1, Kaul noted, "Definitely, we will come back. I don't believe that we are playing for a comeback. We are playing to win this series."

More Injury Concerns For India! Star Pacer To Be Ruled Out Of 4th Test: Report

Arshdeep Singh is reportedly set to be ruled out of the fourth Test between India and England with Akash Deep also doubtful. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is reportedly set to be ruled out of contention for the fourth Test between India and England at Old Trafford, which begins on July 23. According to The Indian Express, the fast-bowler suffered a cut on his bowling hand during a nets session on Thursday while trying to stop a ball hit by Sai Sudharsan off his own bowling. The physios were seen stitching up his hand and the injury now seems set to sideline him for some time. 'He has stitches on his hand and is likely won't be available for the fourth Test match, the Indian team will see if he is ready for the fifth Test or not," the newspaper cited a source as saying. India's assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, had earlier said, 'Arshdeep took a ball while he was bowling there, Sai hit a ball and he tried to stop it and it's just a cut. So we have to see how bad the cut is. Obviously, the medical team have taken him off to see a doctor and obviously, if he needs stitches or doesn't need stitches it's going to be important to our planning for the next few days." The report added that Akash Deep is also doubtful for the Test due to a groin strain. The pacer didn't bowl in the team's nets session before they departed for Manchester. Meanwhile, if Akash Deep is also ruled out, India will have to revert back to Prasidh Krishna, who looked out of sorts in the first two Tests, taking six wickets across four innings. Kuldeep Yadav is another option but the spinner doesn't seem to be in coach Gautam Gambhir's tactics for now. India have been already sweating over Rishabh Pant's availability. The left-handed wicketkeeper suffered a blow to his finger while keeping wickets in the third Test at Lord's. Ten Doeschate said he'll play as a specialist batter if he can't wicketkeep, but that'll mean India will have to get Dhruv Jurel in anyway, which would mean axing a specialist batter. view comments First Published: July 19, 2025, 21:58 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. After injuring bowling hand, Arshdeep unlikely to be fit enough for fourth Test

Agency: Last Updated: Manchester, Jul 19 (PTI) Injured Indian left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who is yet to play in the ongoing Test series against England, is unlikely to be available for selection for the fourth Test beginning in Manchester from July 23. Arshdeep, who is yet to play Test cricket, injured his left hand while trying to stop a shot from Sai Sudharsan's on his follow through during the net session in Beckenham on Thursday. The Indian team on Saturday arrived in Manchester in their bid to level the five match series following the heartbreak of Lord's. Following the training session in Beckenham, Arshdeep was walking around with his bowling hand bandaged. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, in as many words, had hinted that Arshdeep would be racing against time to get fit for the Manchester Test even though he had not found a playing eleven spot in the first three games. 'We'll take a call on the combination we play, particularly given the Arshdeep situation as well, we'll make that call closer to Manchester," said Doeschate referring to the left-arm pacer getting injured during training. 'He took a ball while he was bowling there, Sai had a ball and he tried to stop it and it's just a cut, so we have to see how bad the cut is. Obviously the medical team has taken him off to see a doctor and obviously if he needs stitches or doesn't need stitches that's going to be important to our planning for the next few days," he had said post training in Beckenham. The left-arm pacer was only likely to get a shot if one of two senior pacers — Jasprit Bumrah or Mohammed Siraj happen to be rested due to workload management. Bumrah, Siraj and Akash Deep formed the pace trio at Lord's. It remains to be seen if Bumrah decides to play the Manchester Test or the fifth one at The Oval with the series on the line already. There is no clarity over the availability of Akash Deep, who is dealing with a groin niggle. Siraj has featured in all the games so far and is due for some rest.
