Primark's new bag looks similar to a designer version - but there's a huge price difference
Primark is stocking a new bag that bears a striking resemblance to a pricier alternative. Known for its affordable fashion and homeware, the high street giant may have just introduced a new crowd-pleaser.
The retailer's Belted Bucket Mini Tote Bag looks similar to a style by designer brand Celine but at a fraction of the cost. Shoppers can snag the Primark version for £10, while the high end version is currently priced at £1,650 online.

The bags are very similar, with a leather-look finish, bucket shape, and mini size. They both also feature gold-tone hardware and two similar handles.

However, there are some differences too, including that the designer bag is real leather while Primark's is synthetic. The Celine bag also features the brand's classic logo in gold on the front, while Primark's version is plain.
Primark's full product description read: "Sleek and sophisticated, this mini bucket bag is here to revive your accessories edit. The faux leather fabric is practical yet elegant, while the belt detail to either side adds extra style points.
"This bag features a grab handle, as well as a cross-body strap, giving it a versatile appeal, while the gold-toned hardware adds a polished finishing touch. Use it to accessorise all your fave fits and get set to bag plenty of compliments!"
The Celine description states: "Calfskin, lambskin lining. Gold finishing. Hand carry, shoulder carry and cross-body carry. Flap in leather with a Triomphe magnetic closure. Removable and adjustable strap."

Primark's Belted Bucket Mini Tote Bag is priced at £10, while the Celine Mini Bucket Louise in smooth calfskin comes in at £1,650. This means shoppers could save around £1,640 by opting for the bargain version.

Government will not offer bailout to UK's largest bioethanol plant

The UK's largest bioethanol plant is set for closure with the loss of 160 jobs after the government confirmed it would not offer a bailout deal to the facility in Lincolnshire. Owners Vivergo, a subsidiary of Associated British Foods, had warned that the plant would close without government support, and sources at the company have told Sky News the wind-down process is now likely to begin. ABF, which also owns Primark, has not formally confirmed its closure plans and is yet to comment. Vivergo have blamed the UK's trade deal with the United States, which ended a 19% tariff on imported ethanol, for making the plant unviable. Ethanol tariffs were cut along with those on beef as part of the UK-US deal, which focused on reducing or removing Donald Trump's import taxes on UK cars and aerospace parts. The plant, which converts wheat into the fuel typically added to petrol to reduce carbon emissions, was already losing £3m a month before the trade deal, with industrial energy prices, the highest among developed economies, cited as a major factor. Vivergo and ABF have warned of the threat to the plant since the spring, but had hoped negotiations with the government would lead to an improved offer by the end of the week. On Friday morning, they were told there would be no bailout. Government sources said they had employed external consultants to provide advice, and pointed out that the plant had not been profitable since 2011. A government spokesman said: "Direct funding would not provide value for the UK taxpayer or solve the long-term problems of the bioethanol industry." "This government will always take decisions in the national interest. That's why we negotiated a landmark deal with the US which protected hundreds of thousands of jobs in sectors like auto and aerospace. "We have worked closely with the companies since June to understand the financial challenges they have faced over the past decade, and have taken the difficult decision not to offer direct funding as it would not provide value for the taxpayer or solve the long-term problems the industry faces. "We recognise this is a difficult time for the workers and their families and we will work with trade unions, local partners and the companies to support them through this process. We also continue to work up proposals that ensure the resilience of our CO2 supply in the long-term in consultation with the sector."

Primark's £20 bag divides opinion over what is meant to go inside

Shoppers were confused at first - but it all made sense eventually Primark is offering a "sturdy and stylish" bag that's not meant for your phone, keys or purse to go inside. Instead, you should put your pets in for a hands-free adventure outside the house, or when walking could be dangerous for them. ‌ The Pet Carrier Bag costs £20 and is black and quilted. Primark confirmed on its website that the carrier also comes with an extra pouch that is the perfect size for pet treats and another handy compartment to keep any pet-friendly essentials safe. ‌ The description reads: " Allow your furry friends to travel in style with our chic pet carrier bag. The quilted finish keeps it sleek and the bag is designed for your friend to be able to sit in it, pop its head out and enjoy the views with you. ‌ "It has sturdy carry handles for comfortable carrying and a handy front zip pocket for treats. Plus, there's a cute little round pouch clipped on for extra storage and a removable base you can wash when needed." The £20 bag is described as being "perfect for keeping your pet comfy and secure" on outdoor adventures. It's also an ideal alternative to carry cases or crates. It was recently shown off in an Instagram video where Primark claimed the item was "fashion meets fur baby" - but shoppers were divided. One said: "Just ordered mine online for collection Friday, my lazy [girl] is going to love this!" Another added: "Just in time for my kitten!" A third wrote: "Fantastic, been looking for something like this for a while now!" But, others were not so convinced at first glance. Someone else said: "It's a shame these kinds of straps are not comfortable". And, a fourth added: "Is it strong enough though? [My dog] is only 5kg and some of these bags are poorly made and I end up carrying underneath anyway." ‌ The label on Primark's own video showed that the maximum weight went up to 10kg (22 lbs), making this ideal for those with smaller dogs and most cats. The website also mentions that this polyester bag measures about 50cm long and about 18cm wide, which is something pet owners may want to consider before buying. Shoppers can order a bag like this on the Primark website, with in-store collection possible at certain locations. The site does offer a handy feature for Primark fans to check which branches should have items available before heading out to the shops. Simply enter a postcode into the Stock Checker tool to find your nearest shop. Some offer a click-and-collect service, while others only offer in-store shopping.

Britain's oldest bread brand with 139-year history SOLD to Primark owner in historic merger

BRITAIN'S oldest bread brand has been sold to the owner of Primark in a historic merger. Associated British Foods (ABF) is to snap up Hovis Group and merge the business with its own bakery arm. 1 The firm, which owns Kingsmill bread said it 'reached an agreement' to buy Hovis from private equity owner Endless. The multinational told investors the deal will 'combine' the production and distribution activities of Hovis and its Allied Bakeries business, which makes Kingsmill and Allinson's bread. The group said the move will lead to 'significant costs synergies and efficiencies' in an effort to create a sustainably profitable bread business. Sources in the industry previously suggested that as a combined group, benefits of up to £50 million in annual cost savings could be made from the merger. ABF said: 'The combined business will be better placed to compete effectively and to establish a stable platform for product innovation in the segments of the UK bakery category that are growing as a result of changing consumer tastes and needs.' It comes three months after ABF first confirmed talks over a potential deal. The deal will see the second and third largest suppliers of packaged bread in Britain's major supermarkets come together. Warburtons, is the largest bakery in the UK, with an estimated 34% share of the branded sliced breads. Hovis holds 24% and Allied Bakeries 17%, making their merger give them the largest segment of the market. As a result, the deal is likely attract the attention of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
