I'm at peace, not fame-hungry anymore: Neha Bhasin
Singer
Neha Bhasin
says her journey as an artiste has been one of constant growth. 'I've evolved in every way possible — as a vocalist, a writer and someone who now understands both the business and creative side of music.
The way I sang at 19 isn't how I sing now; my voice, my style, everything has changed. I didn't enter the industry as a trained singer, but I've learned, transitioned from Western to Indian influences, and sung across genres and languages. No two songs of mine sound the same.'
Today, she feels no pressure to keep up with trends or release music just to stay visible. Talking to Mumbai Mirror she says, 'I don't feel the compulsion to be relevant.
I want to do things that excite me and impact me as an artiste. I know most won't admit this, but many artistes are afraid of becoming irrelevant. I'm not. I think I'm in the most spiritual phase of my musical journey. I don't release songs for fame or views anymore.
I release them only when I believe in what I'm singing. Initially, I wanted fame, but I'm happy with what I have. I'm not fame-hungry anymore. I just want to be at peace, be a student again, and focus on being an artiste.'

Having balanced both Bollywood and independent music careers, Neha values the learning both spaces have offered. 'Bollywood helped me grow by singing other people's compositions, while independent music allowed me to express my own. But I want the music to be good, whether it's indie or for a film. If the song doesn't feel right, I'd rather not do it.'
She feels today's industry is caught in a creative slump. 'There's too much content and too little intention. We're reacting to people's opinions in real-time, which wasn't the case earlier. We grew up on music that took its time — guitar solos, long intros...that's missing now.'
